I guess if I made a casual list of the top five centres in the NHL it would run something like Crosby-Giroux-Toews-Datsyuk-Kopitar, though I wonder about the order quite a bit. Stamkos is up there too somewhere. Point is, blowing Kopitar off when comparing him to Giroux is stupid. They’re not at all that distant in skill.

I don’t mean to imply that Giroux is not a great player either, but there is no way anybody who has seen Kopitar play any length of time would write him off in that comparison so casually. Kopitar had 20 goals and 61 points as a 19-year old in the NHL, and those are both his career lows. He’s been doing it at a high level from day one in this league, and over the past few years he has improved his defensive play to be at an elite level as well.

Kopitar is not a better player than Giroux and thats a fact. Every guy on their team thinks their star player is the best in the world, just the way it is. The whole Flyers team was terrible against the Devils but I guarantee if Philly had a goaltender playing like Quick if would be Philly vs LA. Not to take anything away from the Kings cause they have the “it” you need to win the cup, but they win a lot of low scoring games something Flyers were not able to do with Bryzgalov in net.

Giroux sure ran up big numbers against a Pittsburgh team that was allergic to playing defense, and then put up an amazing three points in four games against the Devils. But at least he was -1 each of those four games!

But to be fair, it’s not like Kopitar could score against Brodeur either, right . . . ?

Everyone who had points in that Pittsburgh series should have an ‘*’ beside their name. BTW, don’t be suprised if the road pop pong champ is the next big name to leave ‘dry island’.
