The Oilers need an NHL-proven, puck moving defenseman. Assuming they do draft Murray, he probably won’t play the full season with the Oilers. Defenseman aren’t like forwards, they take a lot longer to develop. By the time Murray is NHL ready and can make a serious impact on the Oilers blue line, the likes of Klefbom, Marcinin, Musil, Gernat, Fedun and Teubert will be ready to go pro, or already have. Drafting Murray won’t do much for the Oilers blue line next season. Yakupov, however, will most likely stay the course with the team next season. People don’t realize that secondary scoring has also been a big issue for the Oilers this season. The team lacks depth.

I truly can’t see them taking another forward. Not when they so badly need a defenceman. The smart move here would probably be to trade down a couple spots, maybe get a couple other prospects in return, and pick Murray.
