Roy did more, in a shorter time period… hard to argue with that. Not to mention Brodeur had one of the best defenses of all time in front of him for the majority of his career… something Roy didn’t have.

Better goalie and a better guy. Class act all the way.

I was lucky enough to sit behind the net during a game where he was dialed in. It was incredible. I can’t think of another goalie that could make it look so easy.

Martys better.

Both are my idols and both revolutionized the position, Roy with the Butterfly style and Marti with the Hybrid (more like Ninja) style. Respects to Hasek for his contribution style of never give up on any save style during this time period as well.

Both Brodeur and Roy are on the Mt. Rushmore of goalies but I’ll go with Marti.

As a Devil’s fan, I wonder what Brodeur’s career would have been like if the NHL hadn’t changed the rules, as some of the rule changes specifically targeted the Devils (and one of them specifically at Brodeur).

I would put my money on Roy (also Hasek) if I needed a goalkeeper to steal a playoff series though. Brodeur’s style makes mental mistakes more common and more costly.

My sentiments exactly.

Brodeur is fantastic. Roy was just ridiculous though. To me, he was my Barry Sanders of hockey. Ala, I would watch the Lions on Thanksgiving just to watch Barry Sanders. And I would watch the Canadiens/Avalanche just to watch Roy.

From a diehard Flyers fan that spent a year in Denver (and loathes all Denver/Colorado teams thanks to that) that is a pretty amazing.

Ive been watching hockey since the late 70s, and I dont think anyone in that timeframe has been close to Roy.

Roy is better. Brodeur is a great goalie, don’t get me wrong, (Coming from a Preds and Rangers fan) but I just see Roy as the better goalie.
