Don't take the 1-2 years away from the playoffs as an exact measure of where they will be, I am just saying no matter what they won't be in the playoffs for a little while. things can change in a hurry in this league, the Avalanche / Devils / Panthers have proven that 3 years in a row. So take a deep breath guys :)

As for Grigorenko, yes he was outperformed badly these playoffs but do remember he had mono. Not saying he is the next big / best prospect, but you do have to consider all options when evaluating him to others.

Amen... the CBJ Front Office could f-up an anvil with a feather (or a rubber mallet... take your pick)... but man, can the McConnells make one heck of a propane cylinder. (The team owner's main business - for those not so enlightened)

Not going to drive 200 miles round-trip to see this mess until they hit a Grand Slam!

James - I believe you made a mistake in your headline. Allow an ex-season ticket holder to help.

"Blue Jackets on No. 2 pick: “We’re doing everything in our power to get it right” but since we have the worse FO in the NHL and made NO changes there, you can bet we will f**k it up again."

There. Fixed it. Now, it's honest and reflects what will really happen. As for the comment about the Jackets being one or two years away from making the playoffs, well, I wouldn't bet a penny on that but if it should happen, I would bet a LOT they get bumped in the first round. Worst FO in NHL, worse owner in NHL, coaching merry-go-round, can't score, bad D, and no goalie. Aside from that, Jackets are in great shape.

Doubt Jackets are 1-2 away. Probably 3-5. You have to figure it will be at least 2-3 years before whoever they pick at #2 makes a serious impact. They need a solid #1 goalie, a good position player as well as a first rounder out of the Nash deal. It will take a few years at least to get the franchise rebuilt.

After watching the Preds build their team through the blueline, it seems like the safest play for the floundering Blue Jackets.

He is NHL ready from game 1. He is ranked #2 by Central Scouting. I just watched 18 year old Grigorenko get upstaged by a 16 year old by a mile in the Q playoffs, and I wasn't the only one who saw it.

Fact is it's important for the Blue Jackets not to fail on this pick. But I do like Filip Forsberg

Please explain.

Is he the right pick because he is the "safest" or the next face of the franchise or his he expected to be the next big thing on the blueline? Personally, I wouldn't spend my #2 on him but I would understand the idea of doing it, he is a great prospect.

If they don't chose Grigorenko, you must pick Forsberg or Galchenyuk. Great defenders can be found with their other picks in the draft if they allow them plenty of time to develop. Not to mention, we still don't know when or what exactly they will be getting for Nash on most likely draft day / morning. We have to figure Columbus is one to two years out from making the playoffs, might as well grab the next forward off the board after Yakupov, Forsberg can still play over seas for another year before making his NHL debut.

Just my .02

Not to minimize the importance of this pick--or the trade of Nash--but it is also quite important what they do with their subsequent picks. Good teams produce quality players with late round picks.

18 of the 40 players in the 2012 All Star were NOT first rounders. Many of those who were first rounders were late firsts. Sometimes early picks don't work out or are not as good as hoped. If you pick an Alfredsson or a Datsyuk in the 6th round, its all good.
