But he’s in for a rude awakening if he thinks he can leverage a better offer on the open market. Not for a guy who basically walked out on the Kings because he was homesick. A team outside Alberta would be nuts to offer him more than one year, and it would be pretty surprising to see anyone give him more than $2.5 mil.

Take a paycut and bring in more veteran talent. You are a mentor on that team before you are a $3 million dollar player. Hejduk’s money makes sense to me, but not an extra million or more, not for Ryan Smyth at this point of his carreer.
