The bottom line however is that anyone from this “Michelin Man” era of goaltending which started back in the mid 90′s, is automatically excluded from any conversation about the greatest ever … and that includes Roy and Hasek, who were themselves both “early” Michelin Men. The greatest goaltender ever is undoubtedly Tretiak in my opinion, though people like Sawchuk, Worsley, Parent, Dryden, Smith and Esposito should also merit consideration …

Numbers might not lie, but the problem with saying Brodeur is the “greatest ever,” is that he wasn’t the greatest goalie in the 90s. Brodeur’s name never came up in conversation – it was either Roy or Hasek. Brodeur is clearly one of the greatest all-time, but in my book he’s behind Tretiak, Roy and Hasek.

A lot of companies hire motivational speakers to come and speak to their employees. I used to work for a large company and each January they would have a company wide event with a famous guest motivational speaker. The worst one I heard was Tommy Lasorda 20 years ago. He had not presentation on how to improve yourself. All he did was tell basebell stories. The best one I heard was the great NFL referee Jim Tunney who presented a plan to improve yourself in specific areas which will help you and the company. For those who say a real man doesn’t need that stuff, we all need a shot in the arm and recharging of our batteries/attitudes toward our jobs from time to time as companies grow.
