Billy Smith (no relation to Mike) wasn’t nearly as obvious and Mike “Blade” Smith. The slash on Brown was borderline intent to injure and had he connected with Mike Richards after Penner scored the OT winner, Richards could have easily had major internal injuries ..

I suspect Smith will be sent to the wood shed for that ..

It’s as simple as that friends … and by doing so, we LA Kings are now Western Conferences Champions for 2012 ! What a terrific effort yet again by our team and what a game, eh ! … “them Yotes just wouldn’t go down ? Anyway, we now get a break before the “real” show, which will be a welcome respite for our troops, no doubt (ie: man is Doughty ever an excellent warrior or what ?). Anyway, hopefully the Rangers and Devils will now slug it out to seven games …

The Stanley Cup finals will be saved from the coyote flop and the mike smith chop. hate to see this flopping take the game down to the level of the NBA.

Smith needs to change his game. he is obviously a skilled goalie when he stays in the pipes but garners an assist on the kings 1st goal with the icing off his failed pass. needs more discipline and to keep his stick to himself – he could been called on several plays.

While it really isn’t a surprise that LA won in the end, I sure did enjoy rooting for the underdog and was hoping to see these 2 teams play a couple more games just b/c I loved watching these guys battle it out.
The Coyotes deserve big up’s for their season and playoff run; hope they stay in Phoenix and that their results from this season will get people more interested in the game down there. Looking forward to next season!!

As for the KIngs, it may have been a little dirty towards the end of the OT period, but you got it done- Kudos to LA! The Cup is yours to lose now- no matter who you end up playing. How cool would a LA/NYC Cup final be though, the 2 coasts, the 2 biggest cities (at least in terms of E.C vs W.C), and the 2 best goalies in the game!! Frickin’ awesome!!!

The hit was borderline. I can see the refs not calling it considering the previous call had gone Phoenix’s way. Referees absolutely try and not make the calls lopsided in playoff OT. Sad but true.

I kind of feel bad for the Coyotes. They showed some fight tonight and it’s a shame they went out like this with what’s sure to be some controversy.

Congrats to the Kings though. They certainly do deserve to be in the Finals.

Despite the fact that neither call was actually on point, I do think he should have gotten an unsportsmanlike penalty, especially when he blew up the second time. Nice for LA to see him score though, since weaseling that gigantic contract his play has to have been a disappointment (and that’s being polite). A timely goal can be all it takes for a player to look like he had a successful season.

Usually I would agree that you don’t call unsportsmanlike in a spot like that. But not only did he go absolutely apesh1t when he was called for interference, he repeated the tirade during the blown offsides call.

He completely and totally showed up the refs and I would have understood if they had called him for it. However, I understand why they didn’t.

A few quick thoughts about that Brown hit:

–Seemed less like knee-on-knee and more thigh-on-knee. Semantics.
–No suspension is coming from that. People rarely ever get suspended for kneeing.
–Those said, it absolutely deserved a penalty, but you think MAYBE the ref is more likely to call that if Roszival doesn’t have a blatantly obvious, horrendous dive a few minutes earlier?
