Even after two wrist surgeries Giroux is able to play beer pong

May 22, 2012, 12:38 PM EDT

Via Deadspin comes this picture of Claude Giroux playing beer pong with two casts on each arm.

source:

No angle here. Just thought you might enjoy seeing Claude Giroux playing beer pong with two casts on each arm. He likes to have fun just like we do!

Philly’s star forward had surgery on each of his wrists after the Flyers were eliminated, thus the casts.

Crossing Broad also has a picture of Giroux playing Baggo shirtless, if that’s of interest. His physique is described as “mildly disappointing,” if that’s a factor in your decision.

Significantly different than Patrick Kane’s story. One playing beer pong at home with a few close friends, the other getting sloppy, drunk, passed-out-wasted with 300 of his closest (strangers) friends, in public. Get those wrists healthy so you can carry the Cup next year, G!

    • hockeyflow33 - May 22, 2012 at 6:33 PM

Hockey without beer is a game I no longer want to be associated with

    • crosberries - May 22, 2012 at 6:45 PM

Hes got limp wrists probably from attending too many nickelback concerts

  2. bobhpine - May 22, 2012 at 12:51 PM

Mildly disappointing… Describing every flyers season since 1975

    • wicky888 - May 22, 2012 at 1:21 PM

beat it you white trash trailer troll

  3. jimw81 - May 22, 2012 at 1:03 PM

when will a Patrick Kane or Claude Giroux realize everything they do can be capture on a cell phone these days? I can guarantee you flyers front office are having a chat with him about this situation because they don’t want G turning into a Old City Crew. This is one of the reason why Richards and Carter got traded from flyers in the first place. they didn’t want G turning into those two dopes. I dont care if he wants have a good time with friends but keep it under the radar.

    • teaspoon1731 - May 22, 2012 at 1:06 PM

Playing beer pong at a small gathering with friends is pretty under the radar. Kane, well, not so much.

    • napoleonblownapart6887 - May 22, 2012 at 1:43 PM

      Two things:

      1) Yes everything can be captured on a cell phone, but that doesn’t mean that these guys should be prohibited from enjoying their youth. It’s the off season, he clearly wouldn’t be working out anyway after a couple of surgeries – let the kid have a little fun. There’s no harm in Giroux’s case (although Kane’s was certainly more damning) – hell watching him play a little Beirut (also referred to as beer pong depending on where you live) actually endears him a little to this Pens fan (if that’s possible after Round 1 and the Nickelback photos :))

      2) As for a “disappointing” body – any athlete will tell you that there’s a big difference between lifting for the beach and lifting for the field/ice/diamond/etc.

      • jimw81 - May 22, 2012 at 1:52 PM

this is same path richards and carter went down. it started with under the radar stuff then it blew up into an full blown party 24/7 fest. As i said before i dont care what he does in offseason but be careful of people who are around you.

    • challer9 - May 22, 2012 at 6:11 PM

@jimw81 Yeah, I’m pretty sure playing beer pong at their house during the off season was not why Richards or Carter got traded. At all.

      • hockeyflow33 - May 22, 2012 at 6:32 PM

Those two guys will be playing for the Cup next week so it seems like the issue wasn’t them

      • dsd3 - May 23, 2012 at 2:01 AM

Pretty sure Richards and Carter aren’t the primary reason LA is in the SCF. Just saying.

    • dsd3 - May 23, 2012 at 2:00 AM

How is this anything like Patrick Kane? Who cares if a kid plays beer pong in his house?

  4. girouxhasladyballs - May 22, 2012 at 1:10 PM

Heard this dude has lady balls and Kaner has a cup.

    Just sayin.

    • sheckyrimshot - May 22, 2012 at 2:45 PM

heard this dude has been keeping flyers news afloat in the “most commented” tab all year long with his array of insipid user names all year long. thanks for keeping the flyers on the front page, numbskull.

      just sayin.

I would take G over half the players on my sabres…Cup or not

      • sj42084 - May 22, 2012 at 7:04 PM

^ Just out of curiosity, which half of the players on the Sabres are better than Claude Giroux?

      • bagjr387 - May 23, 2012 at 4:43 PM

way to bash the sabres when they’re down….ok so “most of” should be more accurate. people making fun of the fact that he did not win the cup this year was my point.

  6. kp20520 - May 22, 2012 at 1:40 PM

    I would hate to be jimw81’s kid….yikes.

“get back in the house! Don’t you know something terrible could happen if numerous things happened at the exact same random time!?!? Better yet, everyone to the bomb shelter!”

Sign off this and go hang out with the other loons on doomsday preppers.

Carter and Richards were selfish parties and look where it got them! Nowhere! They are both out of the leag…. Wait…. What? They are about to play for the cup? They got traded because they were a-holes.

This is a fun story, not a controversy. Now go unlock the basement and let your kids go play..

    • jimw81 - May 22, 2012 at 2:00 PM

i dont care what he does in offseason but be careful of people who are around you. As for Carter and Richards, i dont care for them. they did it to themselves. flyers had no choice but split them up until cartsey got his away in Columbus and got traded to kings. Cartsey can’t even score on an shoot tutor.

  7. nogoodtomedead - May 22, 2012 at 1:55 PM

Not that there is anything wrong with this- and I’ve certainly played beer pong before- but when did hockey players become such frat bro’s? Maybe these guys should go to college and get this out of their system. I played beer pong because I was a poor college student and Coors Light is about as cheap as you can get for entertainment- you play in the NHL- go to a concert or sit court-side at a Sixers game or something- I don’t want to believe that beer pong is as good as it gets

    • kneary47 - May 22, 2012 at 3:46 PM

So because he plays in the NHL he can’t enjoy himself with the same activities everyone else his age does? Maybe he enjoys hanging out with people his same age and drinking a little bit. I’m guessing if he was court-side at a sixers game you probably would be complaining he should be at home resting due to his surgery. And fyi I don’t know if you know this but hockey players are pretty notorious for partying.

      • nogoodtomedead - May 22, 2012 at 4:11 PM

Settle down- first- I’m not criticizing him for this- I’m one of those that thinks athletes can do whatever they want in the offseason as long as they come back in shape. My point was just, that when I was 22 or 23, if I had the money he has, I would hope I would be able to think of something to do more interesting then beer pong. Relax- and I wouldn’t be mad if he was at a Sixers game- that was my idea afterall

  8. GenoPringles - May 22, 2012 at 1:55 PM

Very telling photo. Hopefully this numb nuts keeps mixing booze with painkillers. That’s been a winning mixture for several dead NHL players. Stay sharp young lady

    • kitshky - May 22, 2012 at 2:03 PM

Aww …will you look at that. Proper spelling, punctuation, and grammar…all at the same time!!

      (*snif…our lil guy’s growin up…snif*)

  9. kitshky - May 22, 2012 at 1:56 PM

    This is a disgrace!!

I for one am shocked and deeply disturbed that there are youth throughout America still playing beer pong on everyday run of the mill pong tables and not officially sanctioned World Series of Beer Pong tables. What kind of civilization are we running here!?!

  10. lindroshasalzhiemers - May 22, 2012 at 2:15 PM

i bet claudette smashed his cup after he lost AGAIN!!! typical filthy loser since 1975

  11. billobrienschindimple - May 22, 2012 at 2:22 PM

I only took a quick peek, and im using my phone, but i am pretty sure he has ONE cast on each arm, not the two stated.

  12. miketoasty - May 22, 2012 at 2:24 PM

I lost all respect for this guy when I saw he was drinking Coors lite…

  13. dkphilly1122 - May 22, 2012 at 2:37 PM

I LOVE how half these comments are the same person and other Flyer’s “Haters”…..yet they took time out of there loser lives to comment about one of the best superstars in the NHL. Haters hate, all day, every day. Stay Trashy Pittsburgh Fans.

    • napoleonblownapart6887 - May 22, 2012 at 2:45 PM

First of all the notion of ‘staying trashy': “Hi Pot, you remember me its kettle… ya know, from the stove?”

Secondly this argument is ridiculous – let the kid drink a few beers. Unless this led to a DUI, assault, or some other similar shenanigans then there’s no issue here. My only concern is a complete lack of respect for the “elbow” rule that I believe most experienced players are familiar with.

    • miketoasty - May 22, 2012 at 2:49 PM

Oh you mean like all of the Flyer fans whining any time they posted a Sidney Crosby update?

  14. tackledummy1505 - May 22, 2012 at 3:01 PM

This is seriously a story? What’s next, girlfriend helps Giroux around the house. Funny thing is something like this will get more attention then Devils/Rangers series

  15. sjsharks66 - May 22, 2012 at 3:01 PM

I wonder what nickleback song they were listening to.

  16. tackledummy1505 - May 22, 2012 at 3:04 PM

I would also agree with the total illegal elbow. Though they might’ve modified it because of the casts.

  17. tackledummy1505 - May 22, 2012 at 3:16 PM

Penguin fans give it up. You lost and Crosby cries

    • miketoasty - May 22, 2012 at 4:01 PM

Give what up? No one has said anything here. Someone sounds jealous.

  18. tackledummy1505 - May 22, 2012 at 3:16 PM

Penguin fans give it up. You lost and Crosby cries

  19. sjsharks66 - May 22, 2012 at 3:20 PM

Why are you talking to yourself? Lol

  20. bagjr387 - May 22, 2012 at 4:52 PM

what nobody knows is patty kane is taking the picture.

  21. dawglb - May 22, 2012 at 5:50 PM

If you were starting a franchise today, who would be the Top five skaters you would choose from? Now. Not 5 years ago, but right now. Consider skill, current health, character…. G is in that top 5.

  22. steelpenguin71 - May 22, 2012 at 7:54 PM

So what? What 20 something doesn’t play beer pong? Maybe he was celebrating being the best player in the world for two weeks.

  23. datsyukx13 - May 22, 2012 at 9:16 PM

Just because he is a professional athlete doesn’t mean he can’t have a few beers with some friends he is a human being like the rest of us. It’s not like he was doing this before a game it’s the off season. NHL players need a break from the game mentally leave the guy alone

  24. joewilliesshnoz - May 22, 2012 at 9:19 PM

Looks like everyone’s having fun, but if their in Philly, who do you trust to keep score ?

  25. garryjercia - May 22, 2012 at 9:52 PM

I’m not a professional journalist or anything, but G def has only ONE cast on each arm.

  26. taytay099 - May 22, 2012 at 11:11 PM

Looks like he really screwed up…. His elbow’s across the line.
