I know this is a pipe dream, but Darcy need to try and bring Goose back. Yea, he’s not a number one center, but this team isn’t a number one center away from a stanley cup. Thats what I never understand in arguments about Buffalo’s handling of FA’s and players. Everybody says, “We need a number one center, trade X,Y,Z for him just get us that center.” Here’s my problem with that, an Elite center is only as good as the players on his line. Obviously, when people think of Elite centers, they think Malkin, Crosby, Getzlaf, Datsyuk, Sedin and even Kopitar. Well, look at the players on those lines, the Sabres do not have that talent. Buffalo’s gameplan, whether accidentally or not, has always been “Next man up”. Usually, we have one red-hot line, while the others chip in here and there, and when that cools off, another one is getting on a roll. This team is more like a solid defensive outing away from contending for a cup, not a center. While I do agree that Roy needs to go, it’s his attitude that I don’t care for. I’d like to see them spend those 4 early picks on a guy/guys who can contribute early. If it happens to be a center they trade up for, I’m fine with it, but I won’t expect it to change this team too much, except add a piece that could contribute to 4 productive lines. This team needs less of Boyes, Roy, and Leino (even though he bounced back) and more of Ennis, Stafford and Pominville. We shall see what the Summer holds, but I wouldn’t be suprised to see things work out the way I imagine, except, of course, Goose back in Blue and Gold.

Elite center probably can’t be traded for. I think they’ll use their arsenal of picks to try to move up into the top 5 and get Galchenyuk.

Ah…seems like only yesterday when Darcy proclaimed that the Sabres had two of the leagues top 20 Centers on the team.

“the right center ice is a priority”= we dont have a #1 center. IMO an elite center signed or drafted, plus Ennis and Hodgeson means there isnt any room for Derek Roy. I’ll agree he had a terrible season. but he has averaged .8 pts per game in his nhl career. that being said….I’ve had enough of him, but he wont be easy to replace like everyone thinks
