Callahan, Kovalchuk exchanged dirty shots in Game 4

Many New York Rangers fans were irate when it appeared that Ilya Kovalchuk speared Ryan Callahan in the groin,  but the New Jersey Devils forward confirmed that Callahan provided similar “feedback.”

Tom Gulitti caught up with Kovalchuk after Game 4, who admitted that Callahan “punched him in the groin” before he retaliated with much of the same. Devils fans can breathe easy, though, as Kovalchuk said there weren’t any ill effects. (He also doesn’t expect supplemental discipline, according to Gulitti.)

“I have protection there,” Kovalchuk said. “This is hockey, not chess … so we’re allowed to punch each other.”

(So you’re saying my idea for Ultimate Fighting Chess won’t get off the ground? Bummer.)

Let that be a reminder, then, kids: always wear that cup.

Kovulchuck can take a punch to the vagina any day of the week

Wait a second, Kovalchuk “admitted” that Callahan punched him in the groin? Shouldn’t the
verb there be a tad more active? Like “charged” or “accused” or “alleged?”

Pretty good spear by him, ignored by the zebras. In the old days, the league considered that
sort of stickwork as the lowest of the low. Not so much anymore.

Anyhow, the Devils are a tough and resilient bunch. Have to give them credit.

I just looked at the video again. Can someone tell me where Callahan
punched Kovy in the groin? I saw him give Kovy’s helmet a shove
right before Kovy speared him. But a punch to the groin? Did it
    happen earlier in the game?

Groin. Head. All translates the same in Russian apparently. Speaking of Russian, why is it that those Cosacks always resort to something dirty when retaliating (e.g. Malkin with glove punches to the face and some fancy stickwork himself)?

…Really, Brian? Last I checked, -everyone- was capable of retaliation, not just Russian players. No one is dead and no one is seriously injured. Both guys got matching penalties. Not much more that needs to come outta that, is there?

Kovalchuk got slapped in the head but LIED that he was also punched in the groin so it was retaliation. That’s right – LIED

Are you using “Cosacks” to try to make yourself look intelligent? Then you might want to spell it correctly.

And your grammar is superb. Am I “correct” douchebag – the pot calling the kettle black indeed.

Callahan gets away with a lot of dirty play…just cause you didn’t see it doesn’t mean it didn’t happen…just like all Ranger fans that believe their own crap and think the world revolves around their team…guess what…it don’t!…Rangers have been about as relevant as the Columbus Blue Jackets in the NHL for quite some time now…the fact that they’ve had recent success doesn’t erase that legacy. Oh yea…blame it on the refs…their play is so squeaky clean….right!
