We’re still over a month away from free agency but for Nashville’s Ryan Suter, the game of being a potential free agent is already underway.

According to Joshua Cooper of The Tennessean, Suter will likely be meeting with his agent Neil Sheehy next week to start talking about what to do about his future. According to Sheehy, Suter just wanted to take some time off to let playoff disappointment wash over him.

“Right now I want to honor Ryan’s request to unwind for two weeks,” Sheehy said on Thursday. “I want to take two weeks to unwind and it hasn’t been two weeks.”

That two weeks is up next week and the Predators are likely eager to start up contract talks. The Preds have until July 1 to do their best to convince Suter that Tennessee is the place for him for the next however many years or else Suter can wait and see what the rest of the NHL would like to pony up for him.

With Pekka Rinne‘s big extension kicking in and Shea Weber in need of a long-term extension as well, the Predators would need to get creative and convincing to show Suter that they’ve got what it takes to be winners for a long time. The offseason games have just begun.

Minnesota has cap room for both you AND Parise. By the way, your best friend, Tom Gilbert, plays for the Wild…

Suter will get around 6 years 48 million

Parise will get around 6 years 52 million

This again. We all know Zach is coming to the Leafs…..

Now watch the thumbs down roll in.

i want him to stay, but for that kind of money you can have him. hes really good, but thats stupid ,money

If Parise and Suter came to the Wild, they would not get contracts that high…. they would be top contracts but front / first year – two year loaded

Suter would be near the $6.75 million range and Parise around $7.75

You can arrange how they get paid any way you want, it’s the average of the contract that makes the cap hit.

For instance you can give a player 6 years 36 million and pay him 10 million each of the first 2 years and then break up the remaing 16 million over 4 years. The cap hit would be 6 million each year.

all that can depend on the new CBA.

      • greatminnesotasportsmind - May 19, 2012 at 11:47 PM

        Free agency begins July 1st.

        CBA expires Sept 15

they will be working off the current CBA during free agency

He’s headed to Philly….Pronger is headed to long term IR, he has two former teammates already there, and they need a number 1 d man.
Zach Parise is going to the Red Wings and
Alexander Semin is headed to Toronto.

    • greatminnesotasportsmind - May 19, 2012 at 6:37 PM

Someone tell me how the Flyers could possibly get Suter? As of right now, they have little over 3 million to spend in free agency. That’s not counting the 3 open spots on their roster. Even if Pronger goes on long term IR, his cap hit is only 4.9 million cap hit. Besides the open cap space will drop even more with the new CBA that will be negotiated in September.

      • hockeyfan28 - May 19, 2012 at 8:45 PM

Fear Philly my friend Mike Richards and Jeff Carter signed 10 year contracts and are now playing in L.A. if they want a guy they usually get a guy.

      • greatminnesotasportsmind - May 19, 2012 at 9:46 PM

Yet they still only have 3.08 million under the cap, not counting the 3 open roster spots they have to fill. Also not couting that number is the fact the cap is going down once the CBA is all said and done. Flyers have 0 chance of getting Suter.

        Fear Philly???

maybe fear the team / players your fans wanted out of town and now will be winning a Stanley cup in LA.

    Lol @ Dallas.

I love when this happens on every single article about Suter. They all boil down to this.

“Everyone wants Ryan Suter. Ryan has no idea what he wants yet, and no one is sure about ANYTHING.”

    • greatminnesotasportsmind - May 19, 2012 at 8:22 PM

Oh please, you know Suter’ agent has been talking to Nashville and knows exactly what they are offering. Your naive to think that your favorite team, my favorite team, and every other favorite team hasn’t given his agent an idea if they are interested and how much.

Come July 1, no way does a contract get done in the first 10 minutes of free agency that was done in 10 minutes. Don’t kid yourself every team does it.
