the refs may indeed know, but sadly – like most calls (or non-calls) – whether they penalize it is too often dependent on who’s doing the embellishing. I’m amazed Letang isn’t suffering from self-imposed whiplash after the first couple games of the Flyers series.

Richards is full of it. the refs do know what embellishment is, but due to the nature of the game they arent always in a position to see the entire sequence of events. i’ve seen more embellishment and diving out of the Kings through their entire playoff run than i saw out of the Canucks through the entire regular season.
i cant count how many times i’ve seen guys like richards, brown or kopitar have a stick come up and not even touch thier helmet, but thier head snaps back like they’ve just been shot, and the hands out “did you see what he did?” look straight at the refs every time.
drawing and embellishing penalties is brown’s specialty- he admits it freely all the time.

this doesnt surprise me considering its a suter coached team. he played for and coached the blackhawks during the old black and blue days, and i remember the exact same antics from the blackhawks when he was behind the bench.
its a cheap way to win games, but unfortunately it works. welcome to the new NHL….

This is the same Mike Richards I saw embellish to get calls his way when he was a flyer.
