Delta offers free flight from NYC to Newark for Game 3

May 17, 2012, 1:24 PM EDT

This is actually a pretty creative promotion – Delta Airlines is offering a free charter flight from New York City to Newark for hockey fans with tickets to Game 3 of the Rangers-Devils series Saturday at the Prudential Center.

The flight only lasts 17 minutes, though that doesn’t include security and all the other tedious stuff flying involves.

“It’s obviously a very unique flight,” Delta spokesperson Leslie Park said, as per CBSNewYork. “We thought it would be a great way to get some buzz going and get some Rangers fans really excited for the game on Saturday.”

Unfortunately for fans still hoping to take advantage of the offer, the sign-up period has already ended.

Fortunately, it’s a lot faster to drive.

The sad part is that it’s an hour train/bus ride from MSG to LaGuardia, and only a 25 minute train ride from MSG to Newark Airport.

Wow. So that means the plane is in the air for what, 5 minutes tops? No way is this offer worth the TSA crap.

They charge you if you fart twice on a plane ride. Now, trying to be gimmicky and supportive of the public, free 15 minute flights for Ranger fans. Nothing against Ranger or Devil fans, but Delta you should save your gas and not be in line for a goverment hand out and a fare hike anytime soon.

I’d love to be on that flight. Would be very scenic.
