Phoenix’s Hanzal suspended one game for hit on Dustin Brown

May 16, 2012, 6:47 PM EDT

Phoenix Coyotes forward Martin Hanzal will miss Thursday’s Game 3 vs. Los Angeles after being suspended for boarding Kings captain Dustin Brown.

The incident occurred at 11:01 of the third period in Game 2. Hanzal was assessed a major penalty and game misconduct for boarding — Phoenix’s second game misconduct of the night — and later expressed regret about the hit on Brown this after taking a nasty slashing penalty on Trevor Lewis in Game 1.

“That was really stupid from me,” Hanzal said of his Game 1 antics. “I kind of slashed him from behind. That was unacceptable.”

Here’s NHL discipline czar Brendan Shanahan with the video explanation:

With the suspension, Hanzal becomes the third Coyote to receive supplemental discipline this postseason, joining teammates Rostislav Klesla (one game, boarding) and Raffi Torres (25 games, villainy).

Only the Pittsburgh Penguins had as many players suspended — James Neal, Arron Asham and Craig Adams — but the sum total of their suspensions was six games, as opposed to 27 for Phoenix.

as a kings fan, I’m so glad Raffi Torres is suspended this series. Phoenix doesn’t have many physical guys that are feared, Torres is feared. all it would take is one brutal hit on Brown from Torres and he ain’t getting up. keep self destructing Phoenix, I’d appreciate it.

“That was really stupid from me,” Hanzal said. “I kind of slashed him from behind. That was unacceptable.”

That quote was made by Hanzal following GAME 1. It had nothing to do with the boarding in Game 2.

AIN’T NOTHING GONNA STOP US NOW !

What Hanzal did last night was wrong, no two ways about it … but let us Kings fans speak no further of it. The fact of the matter is, that we’re going places baby ! … and we’re going there real “quick” like ! :) It’s a great time for us Kings fans, no doubt ! … and if ya ain’t one of us yet, then now’s a good time to climb aboard ! :)

    GO KINGS GO !!!!!!
