Wild give Stoner two-year extension

Clayton Stoner

The Minnesota Wild has given defenseman Clayton Stoner a two-year contract extension, the club announced today.

Stoner was set to become an unrestricted free agent on July 1. He’ll reportedly earn $2.1 million the next two years ($1.05 million cap hit).

The big, tough 27-year-old had one goal and four assists in 51 games in 2011-12, and his plus-3 rating led all Wild defensemen. However, he failed to win a single faceoff. Just checking that you’re still reading.

Great, the Wild locked up a big oaf that can’t skate and has no skill. Awesome.

That’s a lot of money to give up to a guy who can’t win faceoffs. Bad move, Wild. ;)

I’m actually pretty indifferent to the Wild, to be honest, but I enjoyed that little quip in the article.

It’s better than giving a 10 year deal to a cokehead

Based on the title of the article, I was expecting the picture of Jackie Moon giving the giant check to the hippie in Semi-pro to be shown.

the Wild needed to keep him solely for his size and the fact that he is willing to stick up for his team.

Good move, good price on the contract and better yet, perfect amount of years.
