Patrick Kane doesn’t come off too well in Deadspin follow-up

May 10, 2012, 3:17 PM EDT

Kane Deadspin

Patrick Kane’s reputation just took another hit with today’s post on Deadspin recounting his Cinco de Mayo exploits Saturday at the University of Wisconsin.

If Deadspin were just some random blog, we might not link to it or comment on it. However, Deadspin isn’t just some random blog. And even though its sources are comprised entirely of anonymous eyewitnesses, this story won’t be going away anytime soon given some of the things being alleged by the anonymous eyewitnesses. It’s already been picked up by one local media outlet in Chicago.

For now, we won’t say anything more about it.

We wonder if Kane or the Blackhawks will have anything to say about it.

Just a little to close to Big Ben land for comfort. Only difference is he drinks *himself* into a stupor.

    • puckish27 - May 10, 2012 at 4:52 PM

He’s doing what 22 year old guys do! He is of the age to be going to school there, was not driving a car, and seemed like he was having a ball! Thanks for winning a Cup for us in your part-time job, Patty. Enjoy your summer! (I have firsthand knowledge that Chris Chelios is quite proud of you… He knows Madison well). The rest of you, put away your cellcams and join in or stay home.

      • sportsfreak13 - May 10, 2012 at 5:03 PM

didnt realize most 22 year old males choke women. For people to write of this kind of behavior because he’s 22 is no excuse. How come toes isn’t making these kind of headlines? The answer is because he’s responsible and a profesional., something this punk certainly is not.

      • ThatGuy - May 10, 2012 at 5:05 PM

I take it you didn’t read the dead spin article. Choking a girl, and saying anti-semitic remarks is not something every 22 year old does. And that is what he alledgedly did. I don’t know if it’s true, but if it was, than he needs to get his drinking under control. Plenty of people can drink without becoming bigot women beaters.

      • mattmasterson - May 11, 2012 at 1:03 AM

I’m 22. I went to Mifflin. I didn’t choke any women, and if I had, I would have fully expected to be hauled away and locked up for doing so.

  2. dawglb - May 10, 2012 at 4:05 PM

As I said in the last Kane story, he is a complete tool. There are so many U.S. players that we can be proud of. He is an embarrassment and a disgrace. I’d hate him even if he was on my team.

    • sens101 - May 10, 2012 at 4:29 PM

yeah so much to be proud of….like that ’98 US olympic team that got wasted in Nagano and trashed the atheletes village lol.

      • bestgingerplayerintheworld - May 10, 2012 at 4:33 PM

You mean the team that has 0 players still playing? I don’t think that is who he was referring to, sorry.

    • bobhpine - May 10, 2012 at 10:10 PM

I can’t believe I agree with doglb…kane is like 5’9” 180, how did he not get flattened?

  3. wicky888 - May 10, 2012 at 4:08 PM

So let me get this straight. He got completely wasted, made racist comments, harassed women, got thrown out of bars, got into fights, and banged hot chicks? I’ve done ALL of those things. I’ve done ALL of those things in one night, it didn’t take me a whole weekend. So basically what I’m saying is that I’m cooler than Patrick Kane, I just have way less money. I’ve never choked any women though, he’s got me there.

    • bestgingerplayerintheworld - May 10, 2012 at 4:15 PM

      cool story breh

      • wicky888 - May 10, 2012 at 4:42 PM

        Thanks

    • cweez2 - May 10, 2012 at 4:22 PM

I’m sure that all happened in your imagination. Didn’t know Judaism was a race

      • wicky888 - May 10, 2012 at 6:55 PM

Man you guys are no fun

    • comeonnowguys - May 10, 2012 at 4:58 PM

      You choked women?

    • stakex - May 10, 2012 at 6:10 PM

Your parents must be so proud….

  4. wicky888 - May 10, 2012 at 4:10 PM

And since when is Wisconsin a cool place to go party? I was there a few years ago and I wanted to kill myself just so I’d have something to do.

    • grillmarks - May 10, 2012 at 4:18 PM

Have you ever been to Madison? It is really fun.

I am a Hawks fan and honestly this past season after seeing Kane in interviews and the way he carries himself I started thinking, “you know what… maybe he’s maturing and is behind the BS.” What a complete idiot… you make a public apology to the people of Buffalo after mercilessly punching a cab driver, people give you a second chance and you act like a total goon? Grow up, kid. I’d be happy if he were traded this offseason. He’s also way overpaid.

Good for the girl who turned him down… I’m sure he has his pick of the litter with lots of women he comes across and I bet it hurt when he was rejected.

  5. cweez2 - May 10, 2012 at 4:18 PM

Did he try a little juke, a little fake first?

    • govtminion - May 10, 2012 at 4:19 PM

      “Pe-ggY! Pe-ggY! Pe-ggY!”

    • bestgingerplayerintheworld - May 10, 2012 at 4:20 PM

      he definitely went low hard

  6. Stiller43 - May 10, 2012 at 4:18 PM

Besides choking women, sounds like a normal night for most college kids. Difference is he’s in the puclic eye whether he likes it or not (if he doesnt, he should give back part of the salary that fits him being in the public eye).

Little kids (right or wrong) look up to star athletes. He’s obviously someone you have to steer your children away from…

    • rca26 - May 10, 2012 at 6:26 PM

“Besides choking women” is one hell of a qualifying statement.

  7. dsd3 - May 10, 2012 at 4:20 PM

This kid is a douchebag. Glad he’s not on my favorite team.

  8. biasedhomer - May 10, 2012 at 4:24 PM

Wheres Towes leadership when you need it the most?

  9. geo91 - May 10, 2012 at 4:30 PM

Is everyone supposed to make Tim Bits hockey commercials? Give him a break, if I were his age and a millionaire I’d have fun too, not everyone has to be a Sid

    • cweez2 - May 10, 2012 at 4:39 PM

I think the choking part kind of disqualifies the ‘kids having fun’ argument

    • pone27 - May 10, 2012 at 4:42 PM

Agreed. People are acting like Kane is 30+ years old. Dude is just barely old enough to drink legally.

People dont realize that he still is young enough to have college friends. And I am sorry, but Deadspin IMO is not a reliable blog, just a popular one.

    • biasedhomer - May 10, 2012 at 4:47 PM

so because he is a young millionaire, he can act like a jerk?

      • davebrownspiral - May 10, 2012 at 5:35 PM

Yes. Yes it is. What’s the point of being a young millionaire if you can’t act like a jerk?

    • paperkid96 - May 16, 2012 at 9:31 PM

The bigger point might be the pattern that is developing. You can write off the cab driver incident as being dumb and immature.

Now there is a pattern of Douchery!

  10. capsfan19 - May 10, 2012 at 4:33 PM

Maybe the women asked to be choked!! You never know… Theres some wild ones out there

  11. couturierfellatesguys - May 10, 2012 at 5:08 PM

this guy is an american hero. god bless you patrick

    • bigoldorcafromvan - May 10, 2012 at 5:37 PM

I can just see the whole picture. Duncan Keith, Patrick Sharp and the girl in a cab. Keith elbows her in the jaw Patrick chokes her and then punches out the cabdriver.. All in a evenings outing if your a Hawk.

      • martysbetter - May 10, 2012 at 6:03 PM

Things certainly have changed since Adam Banks was on that team…

  12. stakex - May 10, 2012 at 6:16 PM

This is whats wrong with America these days… seems like every 22 year olds idea of a good time is being a fall down drunken degenerate. Grow up people.

Side Note: The fact that he has a ton of money shouldn’t have anything to do with it either. I’m certain that if I had his kind of money, I could find something a lot better to do then spend my weekends being completely wasted.

  13. Nowhere Man - May 10, 2012 at 6:32 PM

I finally get Patrick Kane’s deal and here it is:

He never wanted to be a hockey player. He was just good at it and his parents pushed him. All he wanted to do was DANCE!

  14. doopdoop10 - May 10, 2012 at 7:34 PM

    Again, awesome

  15. sheckyrimshot - May 10, 2012 at 8:40 PM

the nhl needs to get a hold of this video and have brendan shanahan break it down from all angles. “you can clearly see the principle point of contact was the throat and that he does in fact drink like a girl”

  16. puckish27 - May 10, 2012 at 9:34 PM

Summer break, 23 years old, should be in Madison going to school. Wins a Cup in his other job… When did we forget FUN? Leave the kid alone and put away the cell cams!
Godspeed, Patty! Glad we have ya… Chelios is proud is proud of you ..

    • leninthebuff - May 11, 2012 at 8:21 AM

If that was your daughter or girlfriend he choked what would you be saying…it was all in FUN. You’re an idiot!

  17. mrpickled - May 11, 2012 at 2:11 AM

    My God I miss college!!!!!!

  18. thedavesiknowiknow - May 11, 2012 at 4:18 AM

Well, I guess you could call this regression in some ways- but at least he didn’t beat up an impoverished cabbie in his hometown over 10 cents, then hire the sleaziest lawyer in Buffalo to make him look like the victim this time. Carry on, frat-boy.

  19. norcalirish - May 11, 2012 at 5:08 AM

    Sor-ree for party rockin

  20. kgun80 - May 11, 2012 at 7:49 AM

This guy is a joke… Just letting people around the country know. This guy does not rep the type of people we are here in Buffalo. He is classless, and a shame!

  21. travishenryskid - May 11, 2012 at 10:46 AM

None of this is credible at all. Have you ever been to a college frat party? I have a hard time believing these kids story. If someone choked a girl at a party in my school, he wouldn’t get kicked out, he would get his ass kicked. I’ve got a feeling something minor happened and it became exaggerated by a bunch of frat boy drama queens who wanted to sound cool.

  22. lsxphotog - May 11, 2012 at 1:34 PM

Damn, Patty Kane keeps giving me reasons to not like him. Maybe it’s the fact Toews is such a total badass and isn’t cocky that makes me dislike Kane so much…or maybe it’s just Patrick Kane being Patrick Kane?

  23. xaf605 - May 11, 2012 at 2:33 PM

You go Kane she probably ask for it
