Columbus wanted Dubinsky AND Del Zotto or McDonough AND Stepan or Hagelin AND Kreider. How does that make any sense?

Gaborik has 4 goals and 5 assists through 13 games. Yeah, I get it. It pales to what he had during the regular season but both Ottawa (the Rangers were 1-3 against them) and the Caps (2-2) have played smart and kept him from establishing his usual game play.

Nash has 4 playoff games of experience (Every Ranger has more than that now). He had a goal, 2 assists and was a -4. Yeah, he was real effective.

Look at Nash’s numbers…. hes not THAT good of player. He had one standout season in which he had had 79 points and 40 goals. However, his average numbers per season are far less then that (about 28-30 goals, 60ish points). Hes better then your average player obviously, but hes not a super star.

Given his skill level, and the fact hes looked right at home so far aside from one awful trunover, I see no reason Kreider won’t put up 20-30 goals and 50-70 points a season. Of course he might not, but the odds are certainly in his favor.

As a Ranger fan, I would gladly deal for Nash as long as Kreider was off the table. I could deal DelZotto–he’s a good defenseman, but he’s not the second coming of Bobby Orr, or Paul Coffey. Could also part with Dubinsky.

There are defensive assets that could have been brought up from the farm to replace DelZotto and while they may not have been as good, their lack of effectiveness would have been offset by Nash’s scoring and a continuing commitment to winning the battles on the wall in both ends.

Absolutely. Giving up a top pair defenseman, and a future 30+ goal scorer for Nash would have been a huge mistake. Given time Kreider will almost certainly be just as good, if not a lot better, then Nash.

Yeah, there would have been no seventh game if the Rangers traded for Nash…. they would have lost already.

Given the very defensive nature of this series, it would have been disasterous for the Rangers to not have McDonagh or Del Zotto… and there is no guarantee that Nash would have been a goal scoring machine for the Rangers. Not to mention Columbus probably wouldn’t have made the deal unless Kreider was part of it, and that would have been a huge mistake. From what little hes played in the playoffs, I think its safe to say hes going to be every bit as good as Nash once he gets some more NHL experience under his belt.

It was a bad deal for the Rangers at the deadline, and its still a bad deal now. The Rangers might lose this series… but they are a better team then they would have been if they made the Nash trade.

Regardless of the outcome of this series’s , I still would not have done the deal Though his ice time has diminished, Kreider already contributed 2 GWGs in these playoffs . Plus his upside is unlimited . The rangers would have given up too much for Nash and personally I was pleased the deal fell through.

Along with Kreider, greedy how’s on wanted Ryan McDonagh or del zotto , a first and a few good farm kids, so no, better not to get him. McDonagh is turning into a superstar and I don’t even think he’s 22 yet. Same with del zotto, he has a ton of upside. Rangers aren’t even out yet, so the coulda woulda shoulda needs to hold off for now. They have quite a few guys in the minors who could potentially be pure goal scores eg: Christian Thomas. So no, I don’t think giving up McDonagh or MHz along with others was the answer.

Columbus traded couturier and voracek for 10 goals from carter and that’s after they had to fly to his shore house to beg him to play for them I would not bank on them making the best decision.

I wander if the rangers don’t make it to the conference finals if Sather will push for Nash in the offseason. Either way it should still be an interesting off season for Nash and the CBJ’s.

as an outsider (Wild fan) I think the Rangers are crazy for not getting Nash but that the Blue Jackets are even more crazy for not getting what they wanted out of a team, they sold Nash very poorly and should have been able to get a deadline deal done…. Thou, it is much easier to do a blockbuster trade in the summer than mid season…

all of that said. if the Rangers would have gotten Nash at the deadline and then failed to get out of the first or second round and he failed to put up numbers, this would have been ugly.

Now all of that said (again)…. we will never know what would have been and the smarter / safer move was to not trade for him.

I’m lost in my own thoughts now.

I can see why Sather didn’t want to part with Kreider- there is a tremendous upside to this kid. He has done admirably considering joining the team in the playoffs void of any real time to learn much of anything that the Rangers do. The rest of it I have absolutely no problem with.

It’s very hard to say, looking at the present versus the future, but at this moment in time I could have spared Kreider, Dubinsky, a defenseman in the minors, and a 1st round pick without getting too upset.
