Re: Pronger, the reason he left has never been made public, but the rumors are quite scandalous. The top-line talent is much better now than when Pronger was here is not the same.

@kitshky; I'm not offended. Edmonton isn't a place for everyone. But the team has the cap space, is moving on up with talented young players (Hall, Nuge, Eberle and Yakupov) and has a chance to be good for an extended period of time. Where they are lacking is in a quality #1 D-man. If I were Suter's manager, I'd look into it, if only to make sure that I maximized my offer, because you know the Oil will provide a top offer.

i agree with you 100% St Louis would make a great home for Suter. its just a few hours away from nashville, so the atmosphere around town is very similar to the nashville area. the travel schedule would be almost the same, and old freinds would be a half a day's drive away. plus his dollar would go further here than just about anywhere else he could play.
only issue is we'd have to find some sucker- er i mean another team to trade jackman to.

True, but with the amount of top prospects the Wild currently have, one or two or three are bound to be role players. It's moronic to think otherwise. They have the best young prospect group of talent in the NHL / CHL Minors / Euro currently (per THN), not your boy toy 'PA' and FSN North.

Nice try clown!

It's nice to have a bit of optimism at least Shartz. There is a large group of prospects that have a shot at playing next year, so it's not like MN has all their hopes and dreams on one kid's shoulders. Since there are a number of young guns that have a chance it makes it a bit easier to say they have a good chance at getting better. But hey, if you say they are 10th to 12th then they must be. Why even bother bringing in young talent?

If we are talking about one location for the next 6-10 years, then one natural location is the Oilers. They've got a lot of young talent in the forward position, and a young goalie that's currently playing for Canada in the World Championships. Where they are really lacking is in a solid #1 defenceman.

They also have over $21 million in cap space next season, a billionaire owner and a new arena they're going to start construction on soon, and wouldn't it be nice to have a team that can challenge for the cup as soon as it opens? I have no inside information; it just seems like once you take the focus off the next season only, and start looking over the next ten years, it seems like Edmonton is a team on the rise and it would be a fun team to play with/for.

it's not a thin core when healthy. You kind of touched on the topic and you kind of didn't. When healthy, this team was the best in the league (standings) not the most talented by any means.

Granlund / Coyle / Larsson / Brodin / Hackett + two other quality goalie prospects / Zucker / #7 pick in this draft...... the future looks very bright in Minny with or without any FA help this summer....... if they add Suter or whomever, Minny can contend, IF HEALTHY.... They would also have plenty of options to make a trade deadline move next season if playing well enough to make the move.

Also, the Wild have several $$$ millions coming off the books in 1-2 years. Bouchard / Backstrom / Heatley (who I think could end his career in MN but would need to take a massive pay cut, has his shot still but is slowly than crap). and a few other smaller contracts, plus Parrish's contract buyout coming to an end....

The Wild will be a contender in the future or near future if they stay the course.

all of that is obviously my opinion but with Chuck Fletcher making the moves he has, I really like our chances

I'm pretty sure Suter would be considered a key player. Helm and Abs are nice pieces but they aren't top 6 scorers and won't get top 6 money. Holland is the greatest GM in the league, don't question him.

I’m pretty sure Suter would be considered a key player. Helm and Abs are nice pieces but they aren’t top 6 scorers and won’t get top 6 money. Dats and Z are getting older and would definitely be willing to take less money to stay here when their contracts are up. Holland is the greatest GM in the league, don’t question him.

Detroit would be foolish to dump the highest dollar on Suter.....

The Wings need to focus on adding more key players, not big contract players.

Suter is saying he wants to a long, lucrative deal. This means he more than likely wants 6-7 mil a season for the next 5-10 years. Datsyuk and Zetts are your big time contract guys who deserve that money. Abdelkader is due solid, somewhat lengthy deal, as is Helm. You rather pay some decent coin on these guys to maintain an ANCIENT offensive team. Datsyuk isnt 28 anymore.

For years Wings fans have been saying Holland is a genius with the teams he has. Well, he forgot about getting defensemen, and now he is going to try to overpay for one and kill his cap for years to come.

If he was smart, he would spread the cash, not dump a ton on one guy.
