Watch goalie Mike Smith try to score on an empty net

Mike Smith came so close to being one of the rare goaltenders to score on an empty net during a playoff game. You can check out his efforts below:

He has to be disappointed about that one, but maybe Smith can take some small comfort in the fact that he made 32 saves on Monday to lead the Phoenix Coyotes to the Western Conference Finals.

Smith will face Los Angeles’ Jonathan Quick in the next round in what promises to be an intense goaltending duel.

    was so awesome, i jumped up when i saw he was going for it…wouldve been the perfect finish to a bad ass series for Smith.

    apparently, mike smith was so distraught after missing the empty net that he retired as a member of the patriots after the game. WHY DOES EVERYTHING HAVE TO BE ABOUT FOOTBALL!!!!

    Very fun night to be in Glendale!!! Haven’t seen that much energy in the desert for the Coyotes in a very long time!!! Bring on the Kings – we are ready!
