I like the new caps but they turned ovi into the avg hockey player. He isn’t avg he’s ovi! Helm used to him getting hatricks all the time! Now he barely scores when we need him to. I want the old ovi back leave the defense to some1 else.

Stakex – but which came first?

I believe Ovi blew ‘the fit’… THEN the Caps HAD to change their style and system. They couldn’t complete a Cup run with him running and gunning….and sadly, I don’t believe they’ll complete a Cup run with him in this role… whatever this role actually is… So which is it?

Why do I put soooo much on Ovi??? Because he’s ‘the superstar’ and getting paid to play like one. Being the Caps leading scorer isn’t saying much right now, kind of like winning the Pres Cup means to Vancouver.

No shots on goal… seriously??? He has complete control of making a case for his ice time and…. with zero shots on goal… he’s making the WRONG case.

Truthfully, it seems players like him come around rather frequently… make a name, sign the big deal, then coast..

I invite him to prove me horribly wrong…. but will he?

Well I wouldn’t say Ovi has been a “bust” in the playoffs this year. In fact he is the Caps lead scorer… and his numbers aren’t bad considering the defensive nature of both series so far, and his limited ice time when the Caps have been leading.

And your wrong on the facts man. All players have a prefered play style, and Ovechkins is up tempo run and gun hockey. Hes not nearly as effective in the current Caps system, especially with the second rate players hes stuck playing with. Its hard to be a 100 point scorer on a team that gets a one goal lead in the first period and just tries to sit on it as the Caps have all year.

The proof of that is very easy to see. Look when Ovis numbers started to go down hill…. its the very moment the Caps went to a more defensive system. They got even worse this year as Hunter cut his ice time, and played an even more defensive minded system then that Boudreau tried.

so to be totaly honest, biasedhomer might be right. Think about it… if your Ovi, do you really want to waste your prime on a team that doesn’t fit your play style? Players like him don’t come along too often, and its a real shame to see him waste away on a team thats not for him.

Know why he’s not being used to his ‘maximum potential’?

Because he’s been playing DOWN to his minimum potential, period.

How’d you like to be the Caps Org, paying him insane millions upon millions for
‘NO’ shots on goal?

All the bad is on Ovi – another playoff bust… but cashing those checks.

I have said it before…Caps need centers badly. The forwards cannot be offensive minded with no one to help out in the neutral zone. We only have Nicky and he cannot skate two lines.

New York Rangers defense had all merit of holding a great player like Ovechkin.
Capitals need to find other options, when Ovechkin isn’t playing well, as everyone sometimes he will have bad performances.

Hopefully, Hendrick Lundqvist can borrow Deter Jeter’s glove before the next game. Three errors (soft goals) in the last two games. Is there a hole in his glove or is it nerves?

You know, Ovechkin had the exact type of game that the Caps want him to have. He was defensivly responsible, didn’t turn the puck over much, and even blocked a couple shots.

And the Caps lost.

This is what happens when you turn your offensive super star into a so-so two way player. This “new” Ovi is never going to be as good as the old Ovi. I would MUCH rather see this defense minded Ovi on the ice against the Rangers as opposed to the free wheeling goal scoring machine he used to be. The Caps want to become a defense first team? Fine… but its a mistake to force that on Ovechkin, as we are seeing now.

But hey, its working fine for the Rangers so more power to them.
