Yeah, Chicago definitely works too. He would fill the Byfuglien void.

You figure goalie is Chicago’s top priority, but afterward he’d make some sense, especially if he goes cheaply in free agency.

Anyone who’s watched Penner has first been impressed with his size and skills, then completely frustrated with his effort level. What was it, less than a month before the playoffs and he was a healthy scratch? Being called an absolute bust for the Kings? Then Penner gives just enough effort to make you think that he cares. And even though he dogged it the entire season, with just enough effort in the playoffs someone will be suckered into giving him a big contract in free agency. The Senators are foolish to think this is anything but a late attempt to secure a juicy new contract, after which he will go back to sleep.

best fit? the hawks. Grit, size, playoff experience. Put him with toews and kaner for some muscle and maybe spark up some big buff magic

I don’t see the Senators play much, but after seeing them in the series against the Rangers, I think this is a terrible move.

The Senators are not in need of a change in philosophy. At all. They just need to let their young stars develop. Bringing in someone like Penner who really isn’t going to be even marginally “flashy” seems to conflict with that, and he just seems like he’d be a square peg in a round hole.

He’d be a much better fit with, say, Nashville.
