The NHL and NBC consumated a 10 year broadcast agreement last spring, they have 9 years to go, whether Phoenix is in the league or not will have absolutely no bearing on this contract...since it's been signed.

Also I would ask two things: First, how many Phoenix games has NBC broadcast nationally this year? And how many people in the Phoenix area actually watched those games? My guess is not many to both.

What a joke. Couldn't agree more with the poster who pointed out how Bettman has bent over backwards to keep this team in this failing market but did nothing for Winnipeg, Quebec, Hartford & Atlanta. Only in Phoenix would the city PAY the new owner to "run the arena" which is very close to the price he will "pay" for the team. I give this 2 years before Jamison decides he's had enough. Here we go again .. ..

Bettman is running a Ponzi scheme. He is overplaying the possibility of expansion team fees. It shouldn't work in negotiations: why would anyone believe there would be expansion teams when 4 or 5 current teams are on life support? Given this is the third or fourth try at pulling this in Phoenix and the holes in the story that Joe points out (rather huge ones), I don't think this 'sale' is anything more than a 'pump and dump' email from a marketing firm working with the League.

This is ridiculous, it's just another part of the huge shell game that Bettman is trying to play. If this "sale" is anything like the previous deals it will involve very little money changing hands (at least between the NHL and new "owners") and will rely heavily on the people of Glendale paying for the money this team will lose in the future. One has to wonder if the Goldwater Institute will sit idly by, or if the people (or city council) of Glendale will finally stand up and tell Bettman NO?

One really has to wonder why Bettman put up no fight when it came to teams in Winnipeg, Quebec City, Hartford and Atlanta moving yet he'll move heaven and earth before he ever let's the Coyotes (a team that loses $20-25 million EVERY YEAR) move to another city? Might have to do with the fact that he guaranteed the NHL governors that they would not lose any money on the Coyotes, but he knows there's no way that's true and if he does let the Coyotes go through a real sale and move he'll have to answer to his bosses.

I hope for the sake of their fans that they get some clarity to their situation - especially if they win it all. I remember when the Devils won their first Cup in '95 the celebration felt like an Irish Wake because there was all of the uncertainty over Nashville.
