Of course Flyers fans don’t like defense. Their goalie gives up 4 goals a game, so they cant possibly win against a team that plays a little defense.

I hate how lifeless scumbags come on here and talk trash about Philly on multiple profiles. Your team lost, if we are bad but beat your team that means you are worse. This is a hard matchup. I said this will go 7 games and it just may.
If you don’t think the devils trap style of hockey is boring then that’s cool, you like defensive hockey, however it is the reason the NHL loses fans. They want high offensive battles, not boring trap play.
Every rule change since the lock out has been to try to get rid of boring defensive matchups.
Game 2 was controlled by the devils the entire game, Philly played their worst game of the playoffs. Since they didnt show up and the devils played their style of hockey the game was one of the fewest watched of the post season.

You are so right with the stretch pass thing ! I hate to say it but you have to tap into NJ’s emotional side if they have one and they do example: (Rangers opening face fight ) off and hope they come out of their communist like approach ! What I mean buy that and I hate to admit it but a big big big time hit that puts someone in lala land and possibly turns the series dirty could benefit the Flyers !

i dont see whats so awful about it, especially if you know what you’re watching. i wouldnt blame a casual fan or someone tuning in for the playoffs for changing the channel but personally i dont need 10 goals a game to enjoy hockey. this type of hockey exposes players. when guys like hartnell can score almost 40 in a season with a run and gun style of hockey and be completely absent when the times get tough, just shows what kind of player he is. every player in the nhl can skate, shoot, and pass or score on a breakaway or shootout otherwise they wouldnt be in the league. the guys that can win battles on the boards and grind it out for 60 minutes without making mistakes are the ones that shine in the playoffs and rightfully so. matt hendricks for the caps is a perfect example, the guy has a sick shootout move in his back pocket just like everyone else in the league…but he wins battles, hits, fights and makes very few mistakes all season long. he’s not gonna score 40 in a season ever but if you open it up and play him with a center like giroux or malkin or henrik he has the skill to score 30 at least and he will never check out of a game or get exposed. you can call it 1970′s hockey but its just smart hockey to me.

New Jersey plays a 1-2-2 trap style defense out of the Flyers zone. Similar to what Tampa plays (1-3-1 zone trap). These trap style defenses are awful for the game of hockey. I for one can’t wait until Lavy, and the rest of the Flyers, figure out how to break this 1970′s style of hockey and turn the page to the new – FAST NHL.

except philly is weak on the boards and bryz has let a few weak goals in. flyers cant sustain a forecheck, volchenkov, greene, salvador, fayne are dominating. zubrus, zajac, parise, are winning just about every one on one battle on the forecheck and the offensive zone time was ridiculous in game 3. flyers cant clear the zone and the stretch pass isnt there. its a frustrating game nj plays, they have philly right where they want them. unless guys like voracek, hartnell, simmonds, jagr, schenn start throwing their weight around in the defensive zone and support the struggling defensemen its gonna be over in 5 games. schenn has been weak too, wouldnt be surprised if he isnt nursing something…he’s getting tossed around all over the ice, just bouncing off guys and falling down.

overrated? really? i mean because… wait i can’t think of how they are actually overrated. most people outside of Mike here wouldn’t say that they were cup favorites – i believe that belongs right now to the Kings or Rangers – but i believe that based on the facts of the season series between these two and how the Flyers played against the Penguins there could have been legitimate expectations for them to beat Jersey. as a Flyers fan i would think that they will come back and win this series but unfortunately lose to the Rangers in 6. this based on the same reasons i listed above but maybe that is me overrating the Flyers

Its very easy to see what NJ is doing from my couch ! They expel all there energy keeping the flyers in their own zone where the Flyers can’t score, then by the time you get the puck out and over the red line you are exhausted and are at the end of a shift ! Then they are betting Marty will stop your weak exhausted offensive effort with this ploy ! PETER you have only one answer to this tactic and that is I hate to say it “TURN ABOUT IS FAIR PLAY ” do the same thing right back and hope your 51 million $$$$$$ goal tender saves your ass !

hartnell has done nothing this series. all the forwards are getting out muscled to pucks and the nj forecheck is just dominating the d-men as well. add bryz letting in weak goals and its a recipe for disaster
