Danny Briere slams the Flyers’ power play

At one point in Game 3, the Philadelphia Flyers were starting to look like the first round version of the Philadelphia Flyers again. That meant waves of chances swirling toward New Jersey Devils goalie Martin Brodeur and a potent-looking power play. Unfortunately for Philly, the Devils’ record-breaking PK came through big-time in overtime, helping them eventually earn a 4-3 OT victory.

The Flyers received two power play opportunities in extra time – one is rare enough – but did next-to-thing with those chances. Danny Briere scored the game-tying goal (pushing his gaudy playoff numbers to 107 points in 106 games), so perhaps he has the right to slam that unit to Sam Carchidi.

“It’s an honor to be out there [on the power play],” Briere said. “Right now, we take it for granted.”

It’s hard to argue with Briere, as the team lacked the puck movement and aggression on those overtime advantages, most settling for “too cute” plays over their ideal mix of creativity and fast shots. The Devils lead the series 2-1 for a variety of reasons, but don’t be shocked if it comes down to their PK beating the Flyers’ PP.

Even with the specious calls, the Flyers couldn’t capitalize, but that’s a part of the story no one wants to talk about. I wonder why.

      Specious call? wtf is specious??

  2. vindicatus - May 4, 2012 at 12:08 AM

The missed deflection on the Kovalchuk delay of game penalty? The Zubrus boarding call? Larsson’s high stick that never came close to the Flyer? That one especially was expertly sold.

Or do you not know what “specious” means? In that case, it’s past your bedtime, kiddo.

      Cmon vindicatus.
You know they are probably products of the continuously low-achieving Philadelphia public school system. He has no idea what “specious” meant, and wasn’t smart enough to look it up before making a stupid post.
Let all the stammering (which means to 1. speak with hesitations and repetitions) begin about the “Greatest Player In The World” and one of the “greatest win percentages of all time in the history of the world”. Still losers, and will continue to be losers.
Someone please start the Philadelphia excuse train…

I do belive they call their home…Newark

    • modogg42 - May 4, 2012 at 12:38 AM

I’m not sure how you can argue the Zubrus boarding call, what the heck would constitute a boarding if that wasn’t it. They called it right, a 2 minute minor. Would you rather the Flyers flop around like Brodeur until they get calls their way?

    • tfoz5150 - May 5, 2012 at 12:25 AM

      Have fun with that dictionary

    Ur an idiot vindick

    • vindicatus - May 4, 2012 at 12:20 AM

Aww, looks like Briere isn’t the only one with his panties in a twist over tonight’s loss.

  4. vindicatus - May 4, 2012 at 12:46 AM

When even Pierre is questioning the call, you know it was a bad call. He’s the biggest cheerleader the Flyers have on NBC, but even if you concede that one as a judgement call, there were plenty of other botched calls tonight.

  5. mydadyourmom - May 4, 2012 at 1:05 AM

    specious game tonight.

  6. cameltoews - May 4, 2012 at 1:43 AM

Maybe you guys should teach your goalie bryz to flop around like Marty, maybe he would save a shot.

  7. jimw81 - May 4, 2012 at 1:52 AM

Briere is doing alot of talking lately after games to media for the team. bryz not talking to media. He gives an one liner and bails on them. I think there is something going on with this team inside the locker room again.

Waiting for the headline “Flyers Slam Briere’s Regular Season Play”.

There is always an excuse for every hockey game ever. You’re acting like no other teams make excuses. Stop hating Philly because you have nothing else to do. Get your head out of your ass and watch some hockey.
    Now, give me an excuse.

mr playoffs is crying wahhhhhhh our powerplay is bad wahhhhhhh we keep losing cus we are choke artists waahhhhh. hahahaha come on jersey soup can army is pulling for u!!!! end these orange irrelevant douchers now!!!

  11. sjsharks66 - May 4, 2012 at 9:38 AM

Mr.playoffs can only score on the power play just like hartnell and Giroux. This years Philly team is the Canucks of last year. Horrible 5 on 5 but good on the power play. How do they fix that? They dive and whine so they are always on the power play. Philly will deny it, but we all know it’s the truth.

    • tackledummy1505 - May 4, 2012 at 11:16 AM

lol your funny dude, I love the fact that you have sharks in your name, yet you hang all over the Flyers. It’s okay to look at a team who does it year in and year out. Maybe 1 day the Sharks will make the Conference finals and I’m really sorry that we knocked Crosby out of the playoffs so soon. The Devils play crap hockey by clutching and grabbing, period. It’s the only reason why they stay in games or win. If they played straight up hockey they would get killed just like in game 1. Maybe Marty should cry more so that his team can win in regulation. lol

  12. tackledummy1505 - May 4, 2012 at 9:42 AM

Devils hockey sucks and is the worse part of the game. If I wanted to see grown men clutch and grab all day I would watch OZ. The modern day interference and holding calls were made today specifically because of the Devils. Yet since Marty had to start crying about how he was magically interfered with (lol a joke and clean play), the Devils have been able to play old Devil grabbing and holding hockey. I actually stopped watching the game because it’s not fun, nor is it exciting watching grown men holding each other. This is why the Devils have no fans. The only team in NHL history who didn’t sell out a Stanley Cup Final game. Really is anyone surprised? Though I can’t blame the Devils totally cause if they’re not going to get called on it, it’s a good play right? It’s still crap hockey and I’ve had to watch it my entire life.
