Giguere won’t be Montreal GM, McGuire still in the running

Go ahead and scratch Francois Giguere off the list of candidates for Montreal’s vacation general manager position. Or as Google Translate puts it, “We must destroy another name from the list of potential candidates for the position of CEO of Canadian.”

Giguere, the former Avalanche GM, told La Presse that the Habs have informed him he’s out of the running.

As for who’s left, La Presse reports that NBC analyst Pierre McGuire remains a serious candidate. And if not McGuire, it’s likely one of Marc Bergevin (assistant GM in Chicago) or Julien BriseBois (assistant GM in Tampa Bay) will get the job.

Please Habs name McGuire. That would be too funny for words. Also gets him off the NBC broadcasts.

Second that. Can’t stand to hear him on broadcasts and his incessant questions to Olcyzk like a school kid looking or approval.

Giguere is a nice guy, I’ve met and talked with him…. but… this is good for the Habs.

His tenure with the Avs was… tenuous and unproductive. G is not the right man for the Habs job.

I’m always amazed at the ‘Retreading with Hope as a Strategy’ that goes on in Pro Sports.

Another missed GM opportunity for Mike Milbury…..

I third that, he is annoying… But he does know more about hockey than anyone in the world. He may make a good gm…..

I fourth that? He does do rather good rinkside interviews, and it’s no easy task to keep them from being completely formulaic. But besides his Olczyk weirdness, he also too often tries to pack too much info into each comment. We don’t need to know what Ovechkin’s high school principal had for supper last Thursday. And not every shot or save is “unbelievable”!! So, go Habs go!

McGuire was runner up to Chuck Fletcher for the Wild gig a few years ago. I think he has a decent chance of being a decent GM. Havs could do worse, like Doug Risebrough.
