With Ilya Kovalchuk sitting out of tonight’s Game 2 against Philadelphia, the Devils had some lineup shuffling to do. While the team called up forward Tim Sestito, it appears the Devils will run with seven defensemen instead and one of them will be rookie Adam Larsson.

Tom Gulitti of Fire & Ice reports Larsson will be in the Devils lineup paired up with Anton Volchenkov tonight while Peter Harrold will slot in on the team’s fourth line. For Larsson, this will be his first playoff game and after finishing the season struggling and playing in just one of the team’s last 14 games, it’s a heck of a time to make your postseason debut.

Having Larsson paired up with Volchenkov gives him some veteran steadiness to provide some security but also a guy who was snake bitten  in the first round against Florida. Volchenkov’s play recently, however, has been strong and should give Larsson a lift in his first game in weeks.

Get ready to watch boring hockey! Devils are going to run the sit on D approach and hope a window opens for a mistake. This is why Jersey hockey sucks. It works, but it sucks. Hockey should be exciting!

they dont know what it is but they know it sucks, it works but it sucks. doubt laviolette and his boys even bat an eye over larsson, just another man to expose. they need to sit zidlicky or move him to offense on the 4th line, he is worthless on the back end.

No they don’t understand “the trap” or a “left wing lock”

The Wings have won for a long time with the lock, the Blues play a version of it, the Devils will trap certain match-ups just like many other teams when the situation calls for it.

For half the season the Kings had 3 lines that played a trap with the top line playing “regular” 2 man in dump and chase hockey.

Pretty simple, when you see only 1 guy “kinda” go in for the puck on a dump and chase and it’s not a line change, they are trapping or locking.

They are setting up either the left wing lock, where the LW drops back with their D men to form a line of 3, with 2 up front.

Or a neutral zone trap with the 2 D moving up into the neutral zone with the 3 forwards, where you’re forced to dump it in deep. And of course back when goalies could play the puck anywhere, when you had someone as good as Marty B back there it was so effective goalies now are not allowed to play the puck like they used to do.

you have to forgive them, they’re flyers fans. they’re intelligence level is about the same as fans of NASCAR!

Lol Don’t get me wrong boys, Flyers may win this 3-1 or 2-0, but it will be boring as hell. Unless the Flyers score in the first 10 minutes of the game, the Devils are going to dumping and waiting.

Wow do you guys realize the devils don’t run the the anymore since they got Deboer. You guys are LATE. Actually the Rangers run the trap now so get your facts right. Bryzgalov can’t stop anything, might as well play with an empty net.
