Please ignore Bob, he is a Pens fan and pathetic. I am starting to learn that these two traits go hand in hand. You see Bob is Pens fan is very accustomed to early spring exits or no shows altogether, way more than Flyers fans. His only retort ever is 1975. He is making a poor attempt at new material to no avail. It looks like he has already jumped shipped to the Rangers camp. Poor New York.

The rangers are going to beat the flyers in three games after this series

I guess you didn’t watch games 4 & 5 where the officiating was tight and it was an actual hockey game instead of two teams trading shots and trying to murder each other – who won those?

Not saying the Flyers aren’t talented, the Devils are obviously the underdogs in this one, but the point still stands – the Flyers will ALWAYS win that type of game where people are trading shots and going after eachother.

In the 6-4 Devils win earlier in the season the Flyers took one bad call and got worked up, the Devils didn’t respond to the goonery and Philly completely unraveled and kept taking bad penalties.

6-0 in the 3rd and Simmonds slew foots Parise, Kovy knocks out Schenn and the game took a turn for the undisciplined, Flyers score 4 goals and the Devils just hang on for the W.

The only way the Devils have a chance is if they don’t respond to the inevitable baiting by the Flyers.

bdawk is right. No team in the league has the offensive depth that the Flyers do. As talented as the Pens are, there talent is top heavy. The Flyers have very dangerous third and fourth lines, especially with Shelley and Rinaldo out of the line up. They can roll 4 lines, let Courturier’s line match up with the other team’s top line and really put offensive pressure on the other team every shift especially if they are trying to match the Flyers’ offense.

Teams that do well against the Flyers like the Rangers focus on defending the Flyers and expose their offense not back checking or running around (out of position) in their own end trying to get back on offense. As bad as Bryz was at times, he was often left hung out to dry as the opposition would take advantage of the Flyers down low outnumbering them around the goal. It was very frustrating watching the Rangers consistently have 2 on 1 and 3 on 2 situations around the Flyer’s net over and over again this season.

If the Flyers are responsible in their own end only a goalie playing out their mind will have a chance to stop the Flyers.

This series would be a good time for Hartnell and Simmonds to shine. Pretty goals are nice, but these games will be decided by some trash goals by the grinders who sit in front of the net and pick up rebounds.

Pretty sure you didn’t watch the Flyers Pens series. The Flyers talent combined with Fleury’s awful play caused the Penguins to abandon their style of play which resulted in the Penguins chirping and trying to bait the Flyers (unsuccessfully). Hence why 3 Penguins were suspended and 0 Flyers. Nice analysis though- you really nailed it.

I am not a Philly fan by any means but the cheap play and fighting in the first round was initiated by the Pens and if anything the Flyers won by keeping their composure. The flyers will check the Devils top threats but thats typical to playoff hockey. The Flyers are extremely deep and very fast if the Devils want to win they can’t get baited into wide open play due to the fact that there isn’t a team that can survive trading chance for chance against the Flyers. The Devils won’t need a ton of chances to net a few past Bryz so their concentration should be on blocking shots and disruption in the neutral zone. Most importantly though as you stated is to stay out of the box.

Mind games – Philly’s strategy is going to be to test the Devils and get them off balance. Cheap shots, chirping, fighting – its part of the Flyer’s game to push buttons and bait their opponents into abandoning their style of play and playing Philly hockey. It worked really well against the Penguins.

The Devils have to be smart and stick to their game if they want to have a shot in this series (I’m looking at you David Clarkson).
