Damage control: Panthers CEO invites young woman to game after attacking her on Twitter

Apr 27, 2012, 8:10 AM EDT

It’s usually not a good idea for a person in a position of power to pick on someone via a public forum like Twitter, even if they didn’t start the fight. That’s the lesson that Florida Panthers CEO Michael Yormark (@PanthersYormark) learned recently after this Twitter exchange:

Well, apparently he was wrong because Lauren Ashley now has 4,542 Twitter followers to his 3,445.

Yormark might have meant for his comment to be playful and you might even argue that he had a right to fire back after her comment, but that’s not really the point. First off, it can be difficult to convey sarcasm or playfulness in a text statement consisting of 140 characters or less. Additionally, people don’t like to see the big guy attacking the little guy, as Yormark apparently learned the hard way.

So with damage control probably on his mind, Yormark invited Lauren Ashley to watch Game 7 of the Panthers’ first round series on Thursday. You can check out an interview of them below:

So there you have it, the controversy has come to it’s conclusion. As a final note, I’d like to reach out to my fellow men and urge them not to call things “Twittergate” because, well, there’s probably already been thousands of those.

Ah, the power of Twitter. Take a look at this story, all you people who had unkind things to say about what is said on the internet. Part of the reason businesses are so interested in Twitter is because they think it’s an insight to how people are really thinking/ what they’re really interested in. It’s so informal, that, to get a boost from it must mean it’s authentic. That’s why Twitter racism is so tough to see. It’s real people saying what they really think when they won’t be censored by society.

As for Yormark, as a public figure, he needs to treat Twitter like an informal news conference… Inviting that girl to the game was a stupid tax of the cost of the seat, the jersey, and the food that she ate/ drinks that she drank. Add that to the long list of losses for tax purposes…

I dug up this little treasure. The panther’s CEO, Yormack, has a brother who is the CEO of the Nets. This little link below shows an eerily similar incident. Interesting. Nice of the guy to bring this girl to game 7, but it does seem like these brothers are hot-headed. (I wonder if he’ll post here and call me an asshole).

Maybe you’ll get season tickets for next year…

Classy move to make up for a classless remark. Too bad his team didn’t get the job done on the ice against future HoF goaltender, Marty Brodeur.

Pretty sure if she was pretty fat and ugly he never would have offered.. Not a bad looking lady.

Yormark showing all of us how to kick it via twitter.

Pretty sure you’re not the sharpest tool in the shed.

Twitter is kind of like these blog sites- sjssharks66 comment just proves that you can be just as much of an anonymous ass on blog sites, too!

Joel Ward is still waiting for a free trip to Boston.

Uh, no one affiliated with the team threw racist or classless comments at Ward.

How’s the search a 23-40 year old woman going?

No offense, but your profile pic is probably not helping (considering the fact that you cut the little kid’s head off). Makes you look like bad father material.

      • drewsylvania - Apr 27, 2012 at 11:40 AM

You make less and less sense with everything you post.

      • solador78 - Apr 27, 2012 at 11:43 AM

        Okcupid, whatever you say. 😉

The only thing he did wrong was respond in kind to her own verbal attack.

  9. dsd3 - Apr 27, 2012 at 1:38 PM

That was a nice video. Glad to see he made it up to her. His original comment was dumb, but it was still a very nice (and smart PR-wise) gesture to fly her down for game 7.
