Orpik obviously has 2 many hits 2 the head. the NHLPA now has Donal Fehr as council & he’s all about causing chaos & making things difficult for opposing sides to come to another agreement on CBA so i’m not holding my breath when it comes to the #Powers that be” who run or RUIN this sport

The NHL is just starting to become relevant again. If they miss another season, it might kill it.

I hope you are correct on this, however, the way I understand it a substantial increase is unlikely. From what I’ve learned about the current negotiations is that the owners are requesting a bigger piece of the financial pie, which will put a limit to how much the cap actually goes up. I believe the reasons above is why some were actually thinking the cap could go down a little bit right around midseason. I certainly hope that isn’t the case. With Orpik’s comments today I’m becoming cautiously optimistic, so hopefully they can get this done with a positive feeling from both sides.

With the players getting hosed in the last CBA, Fehr wants to make a strong startement/ representation for the players union. Agreeing to something ealry would not make that statement. I just hope that making the statement is not more important to him than having a season next year.

If so much is riding on this, shouldn’t they have done it last year? Like when you don’t want your valuable UFA to hit the market? For how big this is, I feel like this is writing your term paper the night before it’s due.

With the amount of revenue the league has made this year, I wouldn’t be shocked if the salary cap under the new CBA goes up substantially.
