Ilya Bryzgalov has gone from “Bryzly Bear” to “Boring Bryz”

Ilya Bryzgalov - Epic - 24-7

Over at CSN Philadelphia, Tim Panaccio is bemoaning the disappearance of everybody’s favorite quote machine.

That, of course, is Flyers goalie Ilya Bryzgalov. The man best known for his love of dogs, fear of bears and knowledge of China’s stringent tiger protection policies has been a fountain of one-liners this season, but has since clammed up following Philly’s opening-round victory over Pittsburgh.

Why? Not sure, though it’s probably because of the correlation between “Boring Bryz” and solid netminding (conversely, “Bryzly Bear” and sieve-like performances.)

Anyway, here’s the latest media vs. Bryzgalov transcript:

Q: How can the guys stay fresh this week?

Bryz: “Eat more veggies.”

Q: Are  you bored with all this practice?

Bryz: “Yeah, bored with you guys.”

Q: Bored with the practices? Would you prefer the games to begin?

Bryz: “We’re working on some things. Always having fun in practices.”

Q: Will you be happy when you know the name of your opponent, so it makes it easier to prepare?

Bryz: “I can’t control this….Really it doesn’t matter.”

Q: What are you doing to stay sharp? What are doing right now?

Bryz: “Going in the shower.”

Wow. So boring.

In an effort to spice things up, here are some of the best NHL soundbites of the year.

(And yes, Bryz is prominently featured.)

    Bryz is the man.

  2. geo91 - Apr 26, 2012 at 12:49 PM

He’s good guy, why you have to be mad?

  3. jblah - Apr 26, 2012 at 12:58 PM

lol that galaxy stuff made bryz seem high.

  4. phillyphever - Apr 26, 2012 at 1:01 PM

I’ll take boring Bryz if it means getting the March Bryz back.

  5. sjsharks66 - Apr 26, 2012 at 1:10 PM

The galaxy is so humangous, we are all like so smalls. Lol I don’t like the flyers but I love Bryz hahaha

I am glad to see Bryz being “boring”. I think he realizes now is not the time to have fun with the media and that he needs to step his game up because he will be crucial to determining how far the flyers can go. I hope with this rest he can get his focus back and play up to the potential we know he is capable of, and if he can, we all know Giroux and the gang can put some in the back of the net. FLYGUYS 2012!

When he retires, he’s going to teach English in the Boston area.

  8. mojosmagic - Apr 26, 2012 at 1:35 PM

It was over when Holmgren called Bryz to his office and gave him media flash cards to study.

He could be himself in Russia but not here in the US what is this saying about us anymore !

    Rotflmao at habs comment!!

I absolutely can’t stand Panaccio… the guy is trying to focus on the playoffs and his biggest concern is over Bryz not giving him funny enough quotes. Hacks like him feed off of the bottom fruit like funny quotes from Bryz and get pissy when they have to actually sit down and think of something substantive to write about.

  11. eigglesnosuperbowls - Apr 26, 2012 at 5:34 PM

Bryz could be Bryz in Russia but has to clam up in the USA what is wrong with this picture ?

  12. bigdong28 - Apr 26, 2012 at 5:54 PM

If the flyers get the Bryz of March back along with Grossman and Mez…they could go all the way. Goaltending around the league has looked bad since the start of the playoffs.
