Columnist: Trading Kesler isn’t out of the question for Canucks

Earlier today we commented on a columnist’s idea to trade Patrick Kane. We now present a columnist’s musings on Ryan Kesler and the possibility the Canucks could trade one of their stars.

The Vancouver Sun’s Iain MacIntyre isn’t outright calling for Kesler to be shipped out; he’s just saying it’s “not as unthinkable as it once seemed, given the season Kesler had, a no-trade clause in his contract that kicks in before next season, and the potential benefits to the Canucks of a multi-player windfall and the renewal of their image.”

That last part about the Canucks’ image might be the most interesting after Vancouver’s first-round loss to the Kings in which Kesler’s alleged diving created a cottage industry in GIF creation (see below, our favorite is the ducklings one.)

But is it really possible Kesler could be traded? Probably not.

As The Province’s Ben Kuzma writes, quality centers are hard to find – just ask the Leafs – and not too many have a Selke Trophy on their resumes.

Not to mention, Vancouver traded Cody Hodgson at the deadline, Samme Pahlsson is a pending UFA and Manny Malhotra hasn’t been the same since a serious eye injury.

If anything, the Canucks need to add more centers, not trade them away.

Send him over to Jolly Olde England where he can dive in the Premier League.

Yes, that is definitely goofy talk (as much as the columnist from Chicago tossing aroudn the idea of the Hawks trading Kane).

(Those Kesler GIFs – a shout out to Pass it to Bulis blog which posted those with some others. Got to give it to Kesler – if he can’t produce offensively he’ll try to contribute by being a real, royal pain in the a**. That’s why the Canucks won’t trade him.)

Montreal would take him…he’ll fit right into their system.

Is there anyone the Vancouver media ISN’T trying to speculate trading somewhere else?

Pretty much the Sedins and Burrows…news days have been pretty boring.

Kesler’s the biggest asshole in the NHL and that’s saying something given what’s transpired in the League offices these past few weeks…if there was ever a guy needing a good thrashing, Kesler’s that guy! He’s got the kind of face you never get tired of kicking…

Another American born player who doesn’t have “it”.
    Another selfish Yank
Canucks would be smart to rid themselves of him

    Those Gif’s are BRILLIANT

Seems that people overvalue Kesler because he had one good season. I don’t know about his intangibles, but I do know he’s a career 20 – 25 goal scorer who scored 40 once.

I think he’s probably worth more to the Canucks on the ice than he would be on the trading block.

They should be able to get a Mike Richards type deal for Kesler. Richards and Kesler are as identical as you can get in two players.

He should net a top 5 prospect and a young NHL player with 2nd line skill.

I have a feeling that there would be some teams that would pass on Kesler, unlike Kane.

  12. thehighcountrybear - Apr 25, 2012 at 10:15 PM

And bigoldorca, like the Canucks, is a festering beached whale incapable of facing-up to the fact his team is populated by a bunch of fairy dancers who get bullied by the likes of a five foot nine Brad Marchand. Hint: the Gay Pride parade is the biggest event on the yearly Vancouver entertainment calendar…I rest my case!

Very funny videos of the Canuckle stuntman Kesler ! :)

Yeah, here today on Canucks Team Radio 1040, the poll and all the talk was about trading away Kesler … yesterday it was about getting rid of Luongo and Vigneault … and tomorrow I’m sure it’ll be about someone else ? … this is one of the main reasons why despite my living here in Vancouver, I refuse to sign on in terms of supporting the local side … as soon as some adversity hits this team and things don’t go favorably, this team and it’s supporters always turns on each other like a horde of blood thirsty, cold-hearted, back-stabbing rats ! … I’ve never understood that ? … how could this team and it’s fans go one minute from loving hometown heroes like Ohlund, Mitchell, Morrison and Jovanovski, only to then say “to hell with them” the next ? … it’s not even so much that I dislike this “Jekyll & Hyde” type behavior … it’s more that I fear it …
