Braden Holtby doesn’t flinch at slashing motion

Apr 25, 2012, 9:30 PM EDT

Barring the possibility of home schooling, most people have had this experience. A bully (or you?) fakes a punching motion to see if you (or your pseudo-victim) flinch. Game 7 of the Washington Capitals-Boston Bruins had a grown up hockey version of that moment and like most of the moments in this series, Braden Holtby passed with flying colors.

Watch as he shrugged off Rich Peverley‘s fake slashing motion, via this GIF from Sports Nation.

Win or lose,  I think I speak for most hockey fans when I say that Holtby gained our collective respect. Awesome stuff.

I totally would have flinched.

Speaking of bullying…Peverley got pushed into Holtby and Holtby proceeded to push him from behind.

      …..so?

    • bensawesomeness - Apr 25, 2012 at 10:13 PM

So basically, what Tomas Holmstrom has gone through every game for 15+ years?

  2. ravensnosncaps - Apr 25, 2012 at 9:42 PM

I like the no calls for the bruins. They call them the b’s for a reason. BS that is

  3. aklolzer - Apr 25, 2012 at 9:43 PM

    Like a Boss!

Logged in to post this; was too late.

Milan Lucic is the dirtiest player ive seen this entire season. I love the NHL playoffs but players like this need to suspended no questions asked.

    • terriers4 - Apr 25, 2012 at 9:59 PM

are you really going to post this on every bruins post for now on even though it has nothing to do with the topic?

    • itsallniceonice - Apr 25, 2012 at 10:11 PM

Haha what a parrot! Quick! What number is Lucic!

  5. jameswestphal - Apr 25, 2012 at 9:47 PM

This kid is a boss. And I’m a Bruins fan.

  6. 1943mrmojorisin1971 - Apr 25, 2012 at 9:59 PM

I wouldn’t flinch at that either if I had my goalie’s body armour on.

  7. oquintero99 - Apr 25, 2012 at 10:04 PM

Any penalty called on the Bs?

    • brian32556 - Apr 25, 2012 at 10:47 PM

SHould have been for Unsportsmanlike conduct.

      • stakex - Apr 25, 2012 at 10:52 PM

…..its the playoffs. Even though I wanted the Caps to win, it would have been awful to see a penelty called on something like this during a game seven. If the league wants to fine him or something then so be it, but if theres no blood just let them play.

      • brian32556 - Apr 25, 2012 at 10:55 PM

        Can’t argue with that.

      • brian32556 - Apr 25, 2012 at 10:57 PM

        Can’t argue with that

      • Doesnotmatter - Apr 25, 2012 at 11:38 PM

just let Karma do its thing. And she did.

  8. habsman - Apr 25, 2012 at 10:18 PM

It’s the Bruins, they will never be called on the mat for these type of things.

And Bruin fans hate when you point these things out. Cheap shot (Lucic) sucker punching idiots.

    • trollingthisbridge - Apr 26, 2012 at 8:51 AM

So true, and now the Bruins are right where they belong and right where they’ll be for another 40 years; on the outside looking in and talking about that Cup they won waaaaay back in 2011.

  9. sjsharks66 - Apr 25, 2012 at 10:48 PM

I don’t see why the bruins would have gotten a penalty for this. He didn’t actually hit him lol. Don’t be ridiculous people.

    • hockeyflow33 - Apr 26, 2012 at 1:07 AM

It’s an unsportsmanlike conduct in the regular season and probably should be a misconduct depending upon the ref

  10. brian32556 - Apr 25, 2012 at 10:49 PM

I don’t know who throws more cheap shots – Lucic or Malkin. OH! They’re both gone! hahahahahaha

  11. barcthespark - Apr 25, 2012 at 10:50 PM

At least Tim Thomas won’t have to worry about what to do with that White House invite this year.

    • rg3isvictory - Apr 25, 2012 at 11:14 PM

I’m just glad he never backed down from his position on Obama even though many trashed him for his opinions and convictions!!! Tim Thomas is a much better person than Obamanation so here is hoping the caps win the Stanley Cup and that Ron Paul replaces that the Anti-American socialist!!! Caps, Caps, Caps!!!

      • r3alta1k - Apr 26, 2012 at 1:08 PM

        Really?? Anti-American??

      • rg3isvictory - Apr 26, 2012 at 10:23 PM

        What’s the question exactly?

  12. Doesnotmatter - Apr 25, 2012 at 11:22 PM

Holtby wins, Peverly is the chicken….

  13. balewsquare - Apr 26, 2012 at 2:09 AM

My favorite part is that after the no-flinch, Holtby just stares at him like he’s an idiot.

    • benzoids - Apr 26, 2012 at 7:26 AM

Holtby looked like a stud during this sequence. Wasn’t going to be rattled.

      • trollingthisbridge - Apr 26, 2012 at 8:54 AM

        Um looked like a stud?

Holtby was the stud on that play and in the series.

  14. sjsharks66 - Apr 26, 2012 at 10:06 AM

Why do people keep talking about Lucic? Do they know that this was not him? Lol
