Scott Hartnell gets back at fan for divorce taunt

Apr 22, 2012, 9:39 PM EDT

As one of the best agitators in the NHL, Philadelphia Flyers winger Scott Hartnell is used to all kinds of heckling – but on the ice and from the stands. Every now and then, a particularly creative – or notably tasteless – bit of tomfoolery must get his attention. That was a case when a fan referenced his divorce in a rather insensitive way, which Hartnell referenced in a Tweet and photo.

“Great win Great effort #shesallyours #motivation #Flyers

(Image via Hartnell’s Twitter page.)

As Travis Hughes said, Hartnell absolutely got the last laugh. (Although it would have been perfect if he pulled Jerry Seinfeld’s tactic by heckling the fan where he works.)

    Stay classy Pittsburgh

    • jason9696 - Apr 22, 2012 at 10:05 PM

As if no one would have done that in Philadelphia.

    • johart52 - Apr 23, 2012 at 12:23 AM

You can’t forget about their racist remarks towards Wayne Simmonds and hoping Max Talbot gets injured and can never play again. They are a bunch of sore losers.

      • pbhatesphilly - Apr 24, 2012 at 12:20 AM

        What? A guy can’t call a spade a spade?

    • eigglesnosuperbowls - Apr 23, 2012 at 6:39 AM

Maybe the wells fargo should start letting the hard working fans that pay the high prices leave their signs up ! I know for a fact crosby and the pens asked security for multiple signs to be removed ! What will the penguins sign man be doing tuesday night ! His sign might read in the window of his shack while pounding iron city to numb the pain ,, THE HIGHLY FAVORED PENS JUST GOT BOUNCED ! HAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA !

      • guinastasia - Apr 25, 2012 at 1:24 AM

Cy Clark’s beaten cancer twice — Hartnell wouldn’t be much of a problem for him.

(He actually had that posted on twitter. Teehee!)

      • eigglesnosuperbowls - Apr 25, 2012 at 5:29 PM

Its a game,,,, all of these words are not ment to trump war or health !

  2. sleepers108 - Apr 22, 2012 at 9:48 PM

They can’t it’s Pittsburg being a jerkoff is a way of life!

    • captjackwagon - Apr 22, 2012 at 10:58 PM

It is hard to take your post(s) seriously when you do not utilize punctuation and you do not use spellcheck. It is Pittsburgh with an H…
Your sentence doesn’t even make sense.

      • johart52 - Apr 23, 2012 at 12:24 AM

I didn’t know we had a grammar Nazi in here either.

      • jacktin - Apr 23, 2012 at 3:04 PM

To johart52 below: I didn’t know retards were interested in Hockey !!! However, I do know they are predominately from Eastern Pennsylvania.

      • jacktin - Apr 23, 2012 at 3:05 PM

        Or above, pick one

  3. kiopta1 - Apr 22, 2012 at 9:56 PM

That fool probably thought he was online.

  4. crashtheboards55 - Apr 22, 2012 at 9:58 PM

I’m sorry I can’t stand Hartnell but that is crossing the line. Bringing someone’s personal life into a game to me is ridiculous.

    • pbhatesphilly - Apr 23, 2012 at 1:34 AM

I guess he should have kept his stick on his home ice.

  5. maalea - Apr 22, 2012 at 9:59 PM

And if you read this blog all the classless douche bags are from Philly right?

    • pbhatesphilly - Apr 23, 2012 at 1:32 AM

      Finally got one take right!

  6. drewzducks - Apr 22, 2012 at 9:59 PM

I heard she divorced him cuz he has better hair than she does. Just sayin.

  7. sleepers108 - Apr 22, 2012 at 10:16 PM

So um you Pittsburg fans enjoy the game today?

    • jacktin - Apr 23, 2012 at 3:08 PM

Did you happen to see the posts above regarding the spelling of Pittsburgh? Now I know you do not have to be a Hockey fan to have taken Geography in Junior High School. You must have missed that year. Moreover, I didn’t know retards were interested in Hockey !!! However, I do know they are predominately from Eastern Pennsylvania.

    • pbhatesphilly - Apr 24, 2012 at 12:19 AM

So um Philly fans enjoy doin your mom again?

    • pbhatesphilly - Apr 24, 2012 at 12:23 AM

So um Philly fans, enjoy doin your mom again?

  8. jucam1 - Apr 22, 2012 at 10:25 PM

Oh how classy the Pens fans are… It’s cool Scotty is a millionaire star player who just owned your team… He’ll be fine… But stay classy as always Pittsburgh, enjoy watching the rest of the playoffs

  11. philly4lyfe - Apr 22, 2012 at 10:58 PM

I’ll bet that’s geno pringles. That sounds about right for him.

  12. sjsharks66 - Apr 22, 2012 at 11:01 PM

Hartnell was mocking a man who is a 2 time cancer survive in Pittsburgh. Then the flyers organization promoted it by handing out shirts.

    • bdawk20 - Apr 23, 2012 at 8:22 AM

What’s your point? He wasn’t mocking him about his cancer. From the looks of it, they both enjoyed the exchange – cancer had nothing to do with it, you must be a politician with all of your sensationalism.

    • mercyflush - Apr 23, 2012 at 10:22 AM

“Hartnell was mocking a man who is a 2 time cancer survive in Pittsburgh. Then the flyers organization promoted it by handing out shirts”

wow. on a blog that traditionally has alot of dumb posts, this is one of the dumbest I’ve ever seen.

you act as if Hartnell or the Flyers should have known the guy was cancer survivor.

they were mocking him because of his ridiculous outfit and his antics. I don’t care what his medical history is, you dress and act like that, you run the risk of getting it thrown back in your face.

And as has been already said, the guy seemed to have loved it and it was probably the highlight of his life. He’s currently the most famous Penguins fan in the country. I’m sure he’s telling people how he influenced the Flyers to make 20,000 shirts.

  13. pkswally024 - Apr 22, 2012 at 11:12 PM

The guy with the poster is a cancer survivor? Continued well wishes. However, when you make a sign like that, you’re fair game.

    • napoleonblownapart6887 - Apr 23, 2012 at 9:16 AM

Not the guy with the sign – the Hulk Hogan look alike who sits behind the opposing teams bench is a two time cancer survivor. He’s kind of the Pens version of Fireman Ed. The ‘mocking’ was when Hartnell his hand to his ear like Hogan used to. I don’t know the Hogan look alike personally (I believe his name is ‘Cy’), but from what I can tell he enjoyed that. He was a little more disappointed with the real Hogan filming the video for the Flyers game.

I think its important to remember that a few bad apples are not indicative of the entire fan base. Just the same as Philly fans don’t want to be judged by some guy who beat up someone in a Rangers jersey or the guy who vomitted on a father and daughter at a Phillies game a while back, I wouldn’t want to be associated with this guy.

Great series. Congrats but not good luck to the Flyers fans (like Bylsma I can’t bring myself to wish them luck :).

      • guinastasia - Apr 25, 2012 at 1:27 AM

Yep, Cy Clark. He’s a pretty cool guy.

  14. prosourcetalk - Apr 22, 2012 at 11:35 PM

The iphone/ipad’s autocorrect has it as “Pittsburg” that’s why you see it misspelled so much

This was a great series to watch, sorry to see it end

    • jacktin - Apr 23, 2012 at 3:12 PM

Holy crap … another retard who isn’t smart enough to correct spellcheck. Does your mother still wipe your incapable azz?

  15. klangdell - Apr 23, 2012 at 12:12 AM

My iPhone has it as Pittsburgh. You must have misspelled it so many times your phone learned your subpar spelling habits.

  16. howardforvezina - Apr 23, 2012 at 12:27 AM

Every fanbase has these misguided individuals…..

  17. capsfan19 - Apr 23, 2012 at 12:54 AM

Is it bad i chuckled at that?

  18. jimw81 - Apr 23, 2012 at 1:07 AM

if the philadelphia fan base did this, this website and national media would of had an field day with this incident.

  19. bobhpine - Apr 23, 2012 at 1:27 AM

The classy part was that his virtuous flyers teammate shagged her.

    • bdawk20 - Apr 23, 2012 at 8:17 AM

      Former Flyers teammates that is.

  20. pbhatesphilly - Apr 23, 2012 at 1:39 AM

I just wanted to say that I hate ALL Philly fans, you are putrid and vile and don t deserve happiness. I can t wait tol the flyers luck runs out, the phillies fade late, the suckxers quit on you and let’s not forget the eagles fall flat on their faces again. I hate you all!,!

    • bdawk20 - Apr 23, 2012 at 8:17 AM

      You have a small p***s.

      • pbhatesphilly - Apr 24, 2012 at 12:27 AM

        Then quit gagging bi–h!!

    • napoleonblownapart6887 - Apr 23, 2012 at 9:20 AM

Hope you feel a lot better after that – you’re just making the rest of us look worst…

I have a healthy hatred for Philly that comes with a rivalry. It’s nothing personal against their fan base or their team. I’ve got respect for a lot of guys who wore Orange in this series. It was a great series – just wish our boys had been able to hold some leads early on. Life goes on and we’ll be back next year.

      • pbhatesphilly - Apr 24, 2012 at 12:15 AM

Listen, I had no dog in this fight so I could care less that the flyers won. I actually think the flyers team is ok. That’s the point of this post idiot, it’s the fans the are abhorrent as the examples show. So let me reiterate I Hate All Philly Fans!!!!!! Putrid, vile disgusting! You all can rot. And yes I do feel better saying this, so here’s to feeling a little better, I Hate All Philly Fans!!!!!!!!HAHAHAHAHAHA! See how stupid that looks!!

    • cleverbob - Apr 23, 2012 at 9:51 AM

      I’m embarrassed for you.

  21. stebutt - Apr 23, 2012 at 2:57 AM

He’s out there, he’s fair game. I’m sure it didn’t bother him much.

  22. dgbk - Apr 23, 2012 at 3:35 AM

hard to claim it didnt bother him if he made a tweet about it after a huge win against a rival… i’m sure who ever they play next rnd their fans will do the same because. his statement just brought more attention to a silly sign

  23. neelyisgod - Apr 23, 2012 at 4:53 AM

And I always thought Sid was gay. Hmm interesting.

  24. sleepers108 - Apr 23, 2012 at 8:04 AM
