Given his history and the nature of the hit, it is hard to question a long suspension by itself. My problem is that Shanny is following in Coli’s footsteps in not having a consistent and credible policy.

It is hard to escape the notion that Torres is being made a scapegoat. I am not a Canuck fan, but Duncan Keith deserved a much longer suspension for the hit on Sedin. Weber should have been suspended for punching Zetterberg. Making an example of a bad boy like Torres is NOT the same thing as having a consistent and credible policy.

His suspension is correct. If he didn’t get the message with the 25 game suspension then maybe it should be increased. There are a lot of guys who take borderline or full head shots. Hopefully this will send the message that it will not be permitted. Who knows, perhaps it may take a couple more guys for serious cheap shots to get the message across.

Torres should appeal for the simple fact that 10 of the games of his suspension are tacked on because the league has blown so many other instances of discipline and saw an opportunity to put those games on somewhere else to make it look like they’re doing something.

I absolutley hate the length of this suspension but the difference is not the name on the back because of how many points they’ve scored this year, the difference is the name on the the back because of past repeat offenses.

This was not a message to the League, this was a message to Torres.

The worst part is that not only did Neal go unpunished, but he’s even a repeat offender.

That’s *exactly* right. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve made the same exact comment in message boards, sites, etc. Torres absolutely should appeal based in the Neal hit going unpunished.

If the world was just (and it isn’t), Neal would received a lengthy suspension to keep things consistent.

What’s really inconsistent is the game officiating. It’s ridiculous. Z. Mahalik gets crossed checked twice in the back by Rinaldo, gets the back of his head pushed, turns around on his knees and Rinaldo smacks him in the head with the ref 10 feet away and no call.

I agree with the suspension completely considering Torres’ history and the hit itself. What still baffles me is how Shanny admitted in his video that Neal did the exact same thing, and broke all the same rule in his hit, and then 42 seconds later went after Giroux’s head and he only received one game? How can everyone keep over look this and how is this acceptable in the NHL, Neal did the EXACT same thing, although his didnt result in a stretcher, and then immediately went after someone else’s head seconds later and no one cares? This is not right. Torres suspension is fair and right but Neal should be gone for at least 10 games too. I am not a Flyers fan btw, its just common sense, two deliberate hits to the head on the same shift?

Regardless, Raffi can grieve the ruling on his own, and compel the Union to represent him in appeal whether it wants to or not; any decision one way or another will relate to labour laws at play in the prevailing jurisdiction. The Player’s Association will be looking to draw lines in the sand for any reason in anticipation of sharpening their axes for CBA negotiations to come so it would be surprising if battle were not joined on the Torres suspension; a political conundrum for all concerned…

It is hard to believe that Torres broke 3 rules of hockey on the hit. The 25 games is the right #. The one question I have since there was no penalty called on the play will the team of zebras that was doing the game get suspended for at least the rest of the playoffs? Still not as bad as the Keith hit.
