I don’t think he’s deliberately sitting out to ensure a longer suspension. I just think most players do what they can to make it off the ice rather than get carted off on a stretcher. Even Mason Raymond who suffered a serious back fracture made it off the ice without a stretcher and, God knows, he probably should have had one. I guess I’m questioning Hossa’s toughness. The whole thing just seemed to scream “drama queen”. Sorry if I’m offending you Hawks fans but it seemed a little over the top.
@thirtyyearfan. I’ve played plenty of team sports in my life and know all about team “pride”. Go sling some arrows in someone else’s yard.

Oh, of course………he admitted he made a mistake. Well then , I guess it’s OK that he deliberately elbowed Sedin in the face. What was I thinking?
You know what…he got a free pass. A 5 game suspension was a joke for what he did. Next time, and I’m sure there will be a next time as it might be his first suspension but it is far from his first offense, he won’t be so lucky. Maybe he should think of his team and try a little anger management.

You guys are not very bright. 1st, it wasn’t cause Hossa got hurt, it’s cuz it’s his FIFTH TIME getting suspended on SIMILAR hits. 2nd of all Keith said he made a mistake and he got FIVE games for being a first time offender. Even the Chicago broadcasters at the time of the Keith hit even said that Keith will be receiving a call from the league and will most likely be getting a suspension. So everyone acting like Keith didn’t acknowledge he made a mistake are wrong and are not making any valid points on anything. God, you hockey fans are really dumb, or really young or both!

Interior and dawg. Again, there are so many of you who have no idea about player pride. To think Hossa is not seriously hurt is ludicrous. To believe he is sitting out to ensure a longer suspension for torres is assinine. A player of Hossas character would not jeopardize the fate of his team to “punish” the guy who hurt him. You probably never played a real team sport.

Curious as to what the “Blackhawks Stars” would have really thought about Duncan Keith’s hit on Daniel Sedin. Funny we didn’t hear any quotes from them or the outrage and disgust from Coach Q then. Not wishing Hossa any ill will but I am curious as to just what his injury is. Will be interesting to see how quickly he returns if the Hawks manage to stay alive against the Coyotes tonight. I don’t mind the long suspension to Torres but I think the absolute lack of consistency in the NHL regarding officiating and discipline is quite disturbing.

Exactly. Forget factors like injury, history, and perceived intent. If a hit is dangerous and illegal then that should be enough. Suspend all guys the same. If every player knew they could land a 10 or 20 suspension for throwing a bad hit then maybe they’d think twice about throwing them.
