Wings are quietly rebuilding, maturing skill and speed merchants on the farm, and are well placed for successes in years to come! What is missing in the article is understanding the rebuild is happening as we speak because the Wings continue to function at such a high level even as they refit…? Yes, it’s time for some old hands to move on and that’s already happened to some degree. Like all teams, we need one more bona fide sniper and at least one player of the caliber of a Joey Kocur or Darren McCarty, players who could play and score! It would be amazing the room Nyquist and Emmerton might find if a player of Aaron Asham’s ilk was covering their backs…

I think the biggest thing this team needs is someone who’s hungry for a Cup. Bring in an Iginla, Nash, Suter, even Selanne.

We have balanced scoring, we have a good mix of new young talent who’re making their way through the ranks, and for once in a very long time, a long-term goalie who’s actually pretty good

Blowing up this team would be an awful idea

They have the cap space that’ll allow them to make a few moves too, looking past whatever happens this year, we have alot of room to play with. Stuart could leave to the west coast for his family, i’d put Lidstrom’s chances of sticking around right around 50/50

An entire season with Smilth, Nyquist, and Helm healthy and in the lineup could do this team some good. (Not to mention Eaves, a fully healthy Cleary, plus whatever other injuries we dont know about )

Drew Sharp is an idiot, always has been. How he has been employed this long by the free press is a mystery to me.

That said, I would not say it is time to “break up” the Red Wings, but it is time to make a few moves.

The blue line really needs beefed up. Kronwall can deliver big hits, and Big Bert will step in and defend teammates (but he is reluctant to these days). The way the NHL is going these days, the Wings really need a pest and someone that will not hesitate to stick up for a lot of the skilled players that they have. The years that the Red WIngs have won the cup 97, 98, 02, and 08 they had one or more of those kinds of players (McCarty, Dallas Drake, ect). I would not be sad to see Hudler go and bring in someone like Prarise or Rick Nash.

The Wings have the core there to compete for the cup every year, but if they want to make a serious run they need to add a few pieces to the puzzle. The way they are built right now is for regular season success, no to go deep into the playoffs.

23 Straight home games.

Untimely unjuries didnt help (everybody has injuries, i know, but half our team went down like a month before the season ended, i’ll bet alot of them are still hurting too )

This team’s good enough to get things done as is, and realistically, any 4 of the games against Nashville could have gone either way

Blowing up the team isnt detroit’s style, and it just feels like a bad idea when you have Datsyuk and Zetterburg still

Hank, Huds, Mule… and I could go on…. are all MINUS.
Bert, Abby, Helm, Cleary – BLANKED, nothing, zero.
Kronwall hasn’t even registered a monstrous hit, let alone winning impact.

Hurts me to say…
1) NOW is the time for some fresh legs and renewed energy. Forget Drew, he’s trying to sell papers… but the need for change has been evident on ice.
2) Put a few young guys on notice – no more coasting on Vets skates. Reg season is not Playoffs. Make an impact, now – Abdelkader, Filppula.

If Lidstrom retires, blow the thing up and get some fresh, interested players in there. If he doesn’t retire, grab Suter and or Parise to fill some scoring and D voids to make another run with the current team (or what’s left of it after the FAs leave…Stuart, Hudler et al).

There are players on the Wings who appear to have grown used to winning. Also, there are some fan favorites that are underachieving this year.

Drew Sharp also thought they should consider breaking things up after the 2004 season, then again after 2007. (Wings won in 2008). Not a surprise he reached into his closet and pulled out an old article and probably enjoyed the nice weather we had yesterday, instead of actually working for a story.
