Don’t blame the internet for the outrage over the violence in this year’s playoffs; blame the violence itself. I’ve been following the playoffs for years now via the internet and TV, and have never seen this many cheap shots so soon into the post-season. The bottom line is that this year’s playoffs have been particularly dirty, and fans are justifiably upset about watching players take headshots and then seeing Shanny dole out piss-poor discipline.

The internet is a powerful tool, and I think it’s great that fans across the NHL can have a discussion about more than just what happened to their local team. Boudreau is one of the few coaches not as upset as fans are about what has been going on this past week and a half, and that might just be because his team wasn’t good enough to make the cut, and so aren’t out there taking these kinds of shots. He’s passing off as hysteria what is a legitimate call for change and more respect among players, because that’s easier than admitting that there’s work to be done to change the way we play the game.

If it weren’t for science and the information age we’d all still be smoking two packs a day, driving around drunk, without seatbelts.

And if this was 1972, players with concussions wouldn’t notice their symptoms as much since their senses wouldn’t be constantly overloaded by things like the internet and lcd tvs.

They’d sit out back behind the barn and their friends would say, “Don’t mind Mike Milbury, he’s a little off after taking one-too-many blows to the head.”

And then we’d all laugh.
