Todd Bertuzzi doesn’t want the Predators playing ping-pong on his watch

Gamesmanship in the NHL playoffs is often the name of the game. But how about games that go on off the ice? Detroit’s Todd Bertuzzi would rather not see the Nashville Predators have a good time when not skating at Joe Louis Arena.

Dave Strader of NHL.com relays a story about how Bertuzzi saw the Predators using the Red Wings’ ping-pong table in the hallway at the Joe and as Ansar Khan of Mlive.com sums it up, he wasn’t too happy seeing the Preds using their toys.

Bertuzzi and a few of the other Wings saw the Predators killing time on their table and decided to interrupt. Strader says Bertuzzi packed up the table and told the Predators that if they wanted to play ping-pong, they should bring their own table. Todd Bertuzzi fun police? Hall monitor? Either way, I’m not sure I’d be the guy to interrupt him.

It’s fun and silly to hear about because, come on, it’s ping-pong for crying out loud. At least things went peaceably unlike when the Blues Jackets and Blues nearly came to blows over a pregame hallway soccer game. You’d have to imagine the on-ice insults will only pick up thanks to this, but who would dare call Bertuzzi “Forrest Gump” over his pong fascination?

The preds should be thankful that Todd didn’t Steve Moore any of em while they were playing

    • michiganhockey11 - Apr 17, 2012 at 9:36 AM

Didn’t the dog pile that ensued actually the cause of the broken neck?

  2. michiganhockey11 - Apr 17, 2012 at 9:31 AM

    I can just picture it

Bertuzzi; “Get you own ping-pong table”

Randomly yelled by another Wing while they’re walking away: “O’Doyle Rules!”

    • imacdane - Apr 17, 2012 at 11:47 AM

O’Doyle I got a feeling your whole family is going down.

  3. vshehane - Apr 17, 2012 at 9:57 AM

Vince Gill’s Tshirt at game 2 said it best. Bertuzzi is a Sissy.

    • michiganhockey11 - Apr 17, 2012 at 10:01 AM

Same could be said about Vince Gill. Horrible musician, cheated on his wife with Amy Grant. Need I go on?

      • vshehane - Apr 17, 2012 at 10:05 AM

Horrible musician, really? And I have a feeling you don’t know squat about his personal life. But that’s ok. When you can’t beat a team you really should back up your toys and go home.

      • michiganhockey11 - Apr 17, 2012 at 10:32 AM

Funny, that the only way the Predators can sell out games is to give free tickets to the country music community. Go back to making shine and cousin-lovin’. When your team reaches their first conference final, if they ever do, maybe we can talk then.

Yes, horrible. When your music appeals to the lowest common denominator, of course you’ll sell well. Doesn’t mean it’s any good.

      • vshehane - Apr 17, 2012 at 10:58 AM

LOL typical uninformed response Mr Michigan. Thanks for confirming the low opinion we hold of people from your lovely state.

      • massivedick - Apr 17, 2012 at 4:49 PM

vshehane … I don’t live in either state but I would stand side by side with a Michigander before some inbred hick from “tin-a-say”. And vince gill is a total a$$ hole and everyone one knows that.

    • dangle13x - Apr 17, 2012 at 11:04 AM

haha who is WE vshehane? Nobody is with you. What are you even talking about? The low opinion you hold of my state? That’s fine. I’m chillin in my multi million dollar home in the most affluent community in the midwest, what do you do for a living? Ha yea…. we’re the low class state. But you and your white trash bantering on a message board is all class right?. HAHA you’re priceless. Get a clue moron.

      • vshehane - Apr 17, 2012 at 11:08 AM

Wow, you told me. Thanks for proving my point. Just keep on “chillin”.

      • hockeyflow33 - Apr 17, 2012 at 12:33 PM

nobody on this board lives in a multimillion dollar home so settle down

  4. v2929 - Apr 17, 2012 at 10:09 AM

Wow! Stress in the Redwings locker room.

  5. polegojim - Apr 17, 2012 at 10:23 AM

Most kids posting here don’t get it, so let me explain… no let me sum up…

    This isn’t a buddy sleepover.

The experience of playing on Red Wings home ice should be dreaded in every way possible. The visiting team shouldn’t feel ‘at home’ at the Joe, for any reason, at any time. They should not be comfortable or relaxed. Any fun they have shouldn’t come from Wings players or the venue.

Especially after the cheap shots – there is minimal hospitality. They are opponents who intended and tried to injure a star player.

    Clearer?

    • vshehane - Apr 17, 2012 at 11:00 AM

Does everyone in Michigan have a 3rd grade education? Your posts make it appear so.

      • polegojim - Apr 18, 2012 at 12:04 AM

Yes, we all passed the third grade, thank you – YOU?

    • dangle13x - Apr 17, 2012 at 11:05 AM

vshe is classic hahah his only ammo is his “superior intellect” that he probably got from a state college in Tennessee hahhahahaah what a primate.

    • hines86for6 - Apr 17, 2012 at 12:05 PM

Well obviously the Preds are relaxed as they’ve won their last 2 games in that building.

Sorry bud, no one is scared of the big bad red wings anymore.

      • polegojim - Apr 18, 2012 at 12:08 AM

Preds have played well… but you’re wrong about the Big Red Wings…. why are you celebrating so robustly???

Because… it’s against the RED WINGS!!!

Talk trash after the Preds have made the playoffs 21 straight years…. and actually WON a Stanley Cup.

Until then, they’re just a ‘good’ team trying to model themselves after…. THE RED WINGS!

  6. mastrick - Apr 17, 2012 at 10:23 AM

Berty is such a classy guy, we found that out with his cheapshot hits on Steve Moore and Markus Naslund. We’ll make sure he feels welcome when he comes back to Nashville, perhaps he’ll enjoy room service at his hotel room

    • jeffchadwick - Apr 17, 2012 at 10:37 AM

Watch hockey much? The Moore hit happened because of a hit on Naslund earlier in the season. Not condoning the Bertuzzi-Moore incident, but at least get the facts straight: Bertuzzi was defending teammate Naslund when he went after Moore.

      • michiganhockey11 - Apr 17, 2012 at 10:50 AM

Doing the same thing that got Dubinsky tossed the other night, which was absolute BS. His man was down, defenseless and was getting pounded. Referee was right there, right hand up in the air and might as well have been playing with himself with the other, instead of stopping the attack. And Dubinksy gets tossed. Complete senseless use of the 3rd man in policy.

      • mastrick - Apr 17, 2012 at 10:54 AM

Watching hockey is fun, do you condone hits from behind? Perhaps that’s how they like it in so-called Hockeytown. Lotta self-inflated opinions up there, time for the bubble to burst!

    • jeffchadwick - Apr 17, 2012 at 10:59 AM

Doesn’t have anything to do with condoning hits from behind. It’s just hard to take the above statement seriously when it’s not even factually correct.

  7. bramac43 - Apr 17, 2012 at 12:04 PM

I think Bert would be the last person would be the last guy I would want to piss off in the NHL. Respect the hell out of that guy.

  8. geo91 - Apr 17, 2012 at 12:05 PM

Lol who cares, for the duration of the series I’d take the opportunity to be a dick as much as possible. Not like he was gonna pick up a paddle?

    • vshehane - Apr 17, 2012 at 12:41 PM

Maybe the Wings should consider a ping pong match. Maybe more their speed.

  9. paperkid96 - Apr 17, 2012 at 1:01 PM

Strader fabricated this story to make something out of nothing. Bertuzzi says it didn’t happen and so did the Preds. It was Redwings Security that moved the table.

    • paperkid96 - Apr 17, 2012 at 1:03 PM

More Details if you want them. http://www.kuklaskorner.com/index.php/tmr

Although I was actually hoping it was true.

You mean you researched an article before you jumped right to the comments and making a fool of yourself? What is the internet coming to?

  10. thehighcountrybear - Apr 17, 2012 at 7:18 PM

Bee ess: I live in a multi million dollar home…it’s great but a little cold? And it has all these neat bars and locks and dudes in uniform…way cool! Just be sure to let the soap lie where falls…
