PHT’s Morning Skate takes a look around the world of hockey to see what’s happening and what we’ll be talking about around the NHL world and beyond.

Don Cherry spent last night sticking up for what Sidney Crosby did in Game 3 against Philly as well as all the violence that’s gone on in the playoffs. If you’re surprised by this, where have you been the last 30 years? (Sportsnet)

Brian Boyle has carved out a nice niche as the guy to be hated in Ottawa. Scoring the lone goal in last night’s Game 3 helped a lot. (Ottawa Sun)

Chris Kreider couldn’t be more relieved after making his NHL debut against Ottawa in Game 3. (NHL.com)

Karl Alzner thinks Milan Lucic is a crybaby and Lucic says “that’s a lot coming from a guy with three roughing penalties in two years.” What? (CSNWashington.com)

Meanwhile the Bruins are steaming mad about how the Capitals are handling their sticks. A Jason Chimera spear to the groin and a Nicklas Backstrom cross check to the head will do that. (CSNNE.com)

Meanwhile, Chuck Gormley at CSNWashington.com doesn’t think Backstrom will be suspended for his stick work. (CSNWashington.com)

Jason Arnott is showing what being a veteran leader is all about with the Blues. (Post-Dispatch)

Darren Helm reached out to Mike Modano after suffering his skate laceration in Game 1 vs. Nashville. (Detroit Free Press)

Ryan Suter couldn’t be happier with how he’s playing right now. (Tennessean)

If you can explain why Brent Sutter’s stock as an available coach is on the rise after miserable years in Calgary, I’d like you to go ahead and give a sound explanation for it. (Calgary Sun)

    Crazy old coot.

  2. lsxphotog - Apr 17, 2012 at 8:29 AM

So Cherry critiques Crosby for being dirty and playing cheap….then he plays a playoff game dirty and cheap and receives praise? Yep, sounds like Cherry.

Hey Alzner, I would be pissed too if I got a double minor, and you didn’t get anything for 3rd man in. Drop the gloves then if Lucic is such a crybaby drop the gloves. What a coward attacks a man from behind and than talks smack. By the way refs nice job missing the crosscheck that started the whole thing.

Can’t take anything this guy says serious. He’s a “never has been” who dresses like a kid wanting attention who doesn’t fit in. Anything for the attention Don…..

  5. BurkieInBoston - Apr 17, 2012 at 9:07 AM

Yes, he “has been” something. Cherry has the best all time winning percentage of any Bruins Coach who coached in 4+ seasons (.658). Bruins point totals in his 5 years were: 94,113, 106, 113, & 100. No Cups, but 2 Cup Finals & 4 Conference Finals. Not too shabby considering Montreal’s dominance in 1976 – 1979.

    • obamablowz - Apr 17, 2012 at 12:33 PM

There were 18 total teams then, Montreal was not in their divison, and if you put any coach in a divison with Seals, Maple Leafs, Barons, and Sabers YOU HAD BETTER have 100 pts a year and a winning percentage of .700

Hey Alzner – Lucic’s not crying this morning up 2-1. Drop the gloves like a man so #17 can beat the bag out of you! Must suck being the only candyass on the Caps roster.

Even the lobotomy was a failure.

The only thing babyesque about Lucic is his tiny spine that is clearly too short.

lol, my wife asked me about his hunchback while watching last night. hilarious that a casual viewer noticed it right away.

I hate Sid but give him credit for not rolling over and actually being an agitator, and even more for being a dick to the press after

  10. bramac43 - Apr 17, 2012 at 12:22 PM

Crosby picked 5 fights without dropping the mitts.. What is this? Mini Mites?

    • jpelle82 - Apr 17, 2012 at 1:20 PM

no one would oblige him or teammates grabbed the guys away from him (timmonen and letang, adams and hartnell). giroux had the chance but he opted to grab and wait for the refs to separate them. no one wants to be the guy that gets smoked by crosby on a national stage.

      • bigab56 - Apr 17, 2012 at 4:53 PM

The only thing Crosby’s smoking is the meat-whistle!

      • bigab56 - Apr 17, 2012 at 4:58 PM

Actually, no one wants to be the guy who gets over-suspended for beating the pi$$ out of the (duck) face of the NHL. Seriously, does that boy look like a duck, or what?

  11. hoarce7 - Apr 17, 2012 at 3:13 PM

I’m beginning to believe Cherry is truly becoming senile. Wasn’t long ago he went on a rampage criticizing Crosby for sticking his nose where it didn’t belong and that if he kept it up, trouble was gonna get him. Now he says that’s the way this kid has to play? Either get on and stay on the horse Don or stay off altogether but it would be nice if you would stop changing horses in mid stream. As for the Pittsburgh whiner himself who says he doesn’t like anyone on the Flyers. Well I got news for you little Syd, do you actually think anyone on the Flyers roster fancies you? Truly the signs of an immature classless little kid to be certain. (ha-ha-ha)

  12. basedrum777 - Apr 17, 2012 at 5:25 PM

If Hartnell is going to hold Crosby’s stick under his arm as he was doing then he knows its going to start trouble. You can like that as a “smart play” if you want but I call it hartnell being a usual dick from the Filthadelphia.

In hockey when you hold someone’s stick they have too options: punch you in the face or kick you with a skate. Hartnell’s lucky Adams picked the first. And for the record watch the tape, he was grabbing his jersey and Hartnell’s flowing womanly locks got caught in the crossfire.

Leave Don alone…the guy’s a Canadian institution [ okay so maybe he belongs in a Canadian institution ]? I think some of you’re missing the point, or counterpoint as it were? The whole object of the exercise is to offer opposing views with Cherry jumping on a moral high ground at his convenience, then assuming the role of the much loved hard-nosed hockey man flogging rock-em-sock-em gear and theology! Fact is, he’s a hockey huckster with a heart of gold…still, Ron’s missus would like her drapes back!
