Tim Thomas to hear (and see) it from Caps fans tonight

Apr 16, 2012, 1:23 PM EDT

A handful of Penguins fans may have dressed up as bears to “scare” Ilya Bryzgalov, but that probably won’t compare to the reception Tim Thomas will receive tonight in Washington, DC, just a few months after the Bruins’ goalie decided to skip a team visit to the White House.

Capitals blog “Russian Machine Never Breaks” has created three options for fans to print out and bring to the Verizon Center. The first two are posters, the third a mask.

All in good fun.

The important question is, will Thomas leave the game if the crowd starts chanting questions about the White House trip?

I want to see them try, at least, just to listen to his postgame comments on it.

    • flavadave10 - Apr 16, 2012 at 3:19 PM

The Capitals really should have had Obama sit behind Thomas so that he would vacate the goal area. Maybe had Joe Biden sit behind the other goal for good measure.

      • paperlions - Apr 16, 2012 at 3:32 PM

Can Obama skate? Would he be eligible to play if signed?

      • danphipps01 - Apr 16, 2012 at 5:28 PM

I heard he was competing for the Caps’ starting goaltender position come next fall, assuming Holtby hasn’t basically claimed it already.

      • hockeyflow33 - Apr 16, 2012 at 6:42 PM

He hasn’t been to a game yet so maybe….

  3. watermelon1 - Apr 16, 2012 at 1:35 PM

As much as I hate the sound of obamas voice… I find this pretty funny.

  4. amonte13 - Apr 16, 2012 at 1:46 PM

Thomas has a better chance of seeing the white house next winter than the chosen one, at least obama can get back to hearing his reverend rant against his country. God damn America!!! While unemployed, maybe BO can have someone explain the constitution to him .

    • comeonnowguys - Apr 16, 2012 at 1:52 PM

Was it really too much to let us have this little bit of humor?

Thanks, Captain Buzzkill, for your smelly contribution to our cornflakes.

      • crazemastercraze - Apr 16, 2012 at 7:44 PM

just shows what a bunch of way too serious douches we have in this country. its just funny, period!

    • spiffy53 - Apr 16, 2012 at 1:54 PM

ugghh, another idiot who thinks they know the constitution. excuse me genius, your constitutional law degree is from where? i thought so. take a seat a-clown.

      • amonte13 - Apr 16, 2012 at 2:19 PM

Well, with a vocabulary like that, you must be a scholar. The pres doesn’t seem to know the purpose of the courts, in case you missed it a couple weeks ago, but hey, not your fault, NBC probably didn’t report it. These things happen when the teleprompter gets left home.
        How’s that national debt?

      • elvispocomo - Apr 16, 2012 at 3:27 PM

Hey, whadda ya know, FOX News really is fair and balanced.

        /sarcasm

    • govtminion - Apr 16, 2012 at 2:25 PM

      Dude.

      Hockey.

Take the political ranting somewhere that gives a crap.

    • east96st - Apr 16, 2012 at 2:27 PM

amonte – Hate to do this to the other readers, but I need the laugh. Please site all the times he has violated the Constitution and the legal precedents you used to determine his actions were unconstitutional. Let’s see your Constitional law expertise displayed in all it’s grandeur! The floor is yours. Dazzle us with your wisdom. Let’s see that GED hard at work!

      • govtminion - Apr 16, 2012 at 3:02 PM

        East, stop trolling the guy.

You KNOW he didn’t get his GED.
        ;)

      • amonte13 - Apr 16, 2012 at 4:13 PM

What site did you have to consult in order to figure out how to spell GED?
The Supreme Court can’t strike down laws made by Congress? Brilliant! Better find a Marine CORPSEMAN to fix this.

      • jpelle82 - Apr 16, 2012 at 4:27 PM

don’t you mean “cite” not “site”? hate to do that to you but thanks for dazzling me with your wisdom sir.

      • east96st - Apr 16, 2012 at 4:42 PM

jpelle82 – You are absolutely correct. Spelling error on my part. Haste makes waste. But, to be fair, I’m not the one posting political nonsense on a hockey blog. I was just having fun taunting the guy that’s so wrapped up in his anger, he can’t separate politics from sports. We’re here for hockey. Not rhetoric. Amonte13 has countless websites, forums, and blogs he can go to vent his political views.I believe the vast majority of us would like to try to keep this blog about hockey and enjoy the fact that the sport allows to leave the cares and concerns of the everyday world behind for a few hours here and there.

      • jpelle82 - Apr 16, 2012 at 4:47 PM

i felt it needed to be called out, just like you felt the need to pander to the amonte dumbass above. just proving a point, pull the plank out of your own eye before removing someone else’s splinter

    • flavadave10 - Apr 16, 2012 at 3:04 PM

What makes you think you know the constitution? If your answer includes any references to Ron Paul, you will be trolled.

  5. dropthepuckeh - Apr 16, 2012 at 1:52 PM

I think its funny. Thomas set himself up for this and I’m guessing doesn’t give a sh*t anyway. If anything it gives more attention to whatever his politics are about. Also, he thrives on the adversity.

    • flavadave10 - Apr 16, 2012 at 3:06 PM

The Capitals should have done the ultimate troll and had Obama sit right behind Tim Thomas.

  6. davem23 - Apr 16, 2012 at 1:56 PM

I think most Caps fans applaud his free speech rights, I just want to see someone in his creese. He seems to hate it!

    • spiffy53 - Apr 16, 2012 at 1:58 PM

apparently his crease has a 4 foot wider radius than every other goalie in the league.

      • flavadave10 - Apr 16, 2012 at 3:08 PM

Oh and apparently Tim Thomas can also hit a player who is just coming back from a concussion in the head.

      • spiffy53 - Apr 16, 2012 at 3:11 PM

i did not see that one. i did see him kick a player the other day. not sure who.

      • flavadave10 - Apr 16, 2012 at 3:39 PM

@spiffy53 It was Backstrom who got hit. I know it was the second game. Pretty sure it was either in OT or in the 3rd period. It was right before another guy tackled him from behind. Of course, that’s not a penalty either apparently. I’ve got a bad feeling something REALLY bad could happen. Not Flyers-Pens game 3 bad, but both teams are getting extremely physical, and that’s not good.

    • dcdangles - Apr 16, 2012 at 4:17 PM

I hope Thomas gets chased tonight. I’m tired of his stupid temper tantrums. The Caps won’t cheap shot him intentionally – they aren’t that type of team. But I hope he gets what is coming to him.

Oh, and between his “gay porn star” mustache and his odd ability to come across as very effeminate in interviews…..he might be batting for the other team. It will probably come out in a book or something after he retires.

      • hockeyflow33 - Apr 16, 2012 at 6:46 PM

When has he ever had a tempter tantrum? He’s easily one of the most even-tempered goalie in the league.

I think you mean Rask, see below:

  7. jucam1 - Apr 16, 2012 at 2:11 PM

Both Thomas and Mr Obama will have a laugh at this…..Obama is going to win in a landslide because he’s a trillion times batter than his predecessor and the clown he’s matched up against…. And Thomas will be a great goalie these playoffs!! You can disagree without hating the others view points… For example, i fully disagree with Thomas’ politics but I think he’s a great player and btw… Obama is a lock, look at his line in Vegas…. You’re the man Barry!

    • vshehane - Apr 16, 2012 at 2:38 PM

You must live on another planet or in Canada.

      • nobandwagoners - Apr 16, 2012 at 3:01 PM

Hey, don’t pull Canada into this!

(And, btw, we might surprise you with how quite aware we are of the politics south of the border)

      • vshehane - Apr 16, 2012 at 3:40 PM

        LOL, ok, sorry.

  8. caps247 - Apr 16, 2012 at 2:26 PM

Calm down, people, this is just a joke. Who can’t agree that Timmy had this coming when he comes to the District? It’s ok to have some fun when it comes to politics and hockey, but don’t go overboard.

  9. rob1986s - Apr 16, 2012 at 2:40 PM

This is all in good fun, fans have been taunting the other team’s stars since forever.

PS: Washington fans, please chant “Hail to the Chief” at some point during the game.

  10. amonte13 - Apr 16, 2012 at 2:43 PM

I guess they should update ‘Rules for Radicals’ to include DON’T LET RESPONSES YOU DON’T LIKE SEE THE LIGHT OF DAY Could someone check their copy?

    • comeonnowguys - Apr 16, 2012 at 2:56 PM

THIS IS A HOCKEY SITE. GO AWAY.

  11. rockthered1286 - Apr 16, 2012 at 3:23 PM

I’m still laughing at Boston fans chanting “HOOOOLTBYYY!” Dude lets 2 of the 76 shots get past him and they are chanting like he’s the friggin collective group of Pens goalies in their series!

Either way, Thomas is too good to let them get into his head (I wish that wasn’t the case) but I expect the place to be insanely loud tonight.

    UNLEASH THE FURY!!!!

  12. proudliberal85392 - Apr 16, 2012 at 4:48 PM

amonte13, Memo to you: You are so wrong on so many levels. Stick to something you know something about, because your ignorance is showing. And now, back to the NHL playoffs.

    • amonte13 - Apr 16, 2012 at 5:07 PM

Great argument! “You are wrong on so many levels”. How could I argue with insight like that?

    • comeonnowguys - Apr 16, 2012 at 5:08 PM

Thanks for baiting him to return. /eyeroll

  13. proudliberal85392 - Apr 16, 2012 at 4:49 PM

    east96st: BRAVO!!!

  14. crusty14 - Apr 16, 2012 at 4:51 PM

It was backstrom he took a trapper glove swing at, and missed. He also did this since backstrom was digging away at him when he had the puck frozen. No big deal here people, if he doesn’t want to get hit by Thomas, stay out of his crease.

Furthermore, just because backstrom came back from a concussion he should receive different treatment? Let’s not be silly!

  15. baddorange - Apr 16, 2012 at 5:44 PM

Normally a CAPS fan, but I despise Obama like Thomas. Go Tim.

  16. joeyg88 - Apr 16, 2012 at 5:57 PM

    go Thomas. f Obama

  17. 8spokedb - Apr 16, 2012 at 6:01 PM

Obama prob doesn’t even know there is an NHL team in the DC area because he’s never been to a game, too busy following women’s college bball…I think its bad news for Caps fans to motivate the man with the dick sweeping mustache between the pipes. He obviously thrives off adversity, we’re talking about a guy that didn’t become a starter in the league until he was 32 yrs old… Not to mention he’s only given up 2 goals in about 2 1/2 games including the overtimes, to a team with a decent offense that has one of the most prolific goal scorers in the world on their roster.

  18. proudliberal85392 - Apr 16, 2012 at 6:08 PM

Warms my heart to see Cracker Nation’s insightful thoughts on hockey. I thought their interest was mostly in NASCAR and bull riding.

    • amonte13 - Apr 16, 2012 at 6:24 PM

Are you leaving the Starbucks to watch the game?
How was an article involving Tim Thomas’ politics, with pictures of the pres, suppose to evolve into a hockey discussion?

      • govtminion - Apr 16, 2012 at 6:50 PM

Because most of us have a sense of humor where you have your misguided-rage gland.

    • 8spokedb - Apr 16, 2012 at 6:25 PM

Cracker nation? You must mean honky you proudsocialist. Im just stating the facts. You must be one of them that wants fighting taken out of hockey because it is too brutal. Dont you have a drum circle to join. Leave the insightful hockey thoughts to the real fans. Go do a whippet or shave your girlfriend’s hairy box.

  19. proudliberal85392 - Apr 16, 2012 at 6:33 PM

8spokedb…no, idiot, fighting has a noble tradition in hockey. Drum circle? Hardly. I once hid a guy’s drum because he was giving me a headache. Why don’t you speak in facts, instead of stereotypes. We are now done, because I don’t like you.

    • 8spokedb - Apr 16, 2012 at 6:47 PM

Stereotypes, ha your the one throwing out cracker, nascar, and bullriding. The funny thing that people ignore about stereotypes are that most of the time they are true. Good im glad your done with me cuz nobody wants to hear your liberal bullshhit points of view.

  20. dawglb - Apr 16, 2012 at 6:57 PM

I applaud Tim Thomas. This IS America. Free to make his own decisions. Don’t the Caps fans know their History?…separation of Hockey and State. If they bust out the Obama faces, I will hate the Caps more than ever! Let’s go B’s!

    • 8spokedb - Apr 16, 2012 at 7:02 PM

      Amen

  21. 8man - Apr 16, 2012 at 7:23 PM
