lol ok so because the rangers have won one stanley cup in the last how many years now they haven't missed the boat? so theyve been reuilding since 1994 and have missed the boat every year since then? is that your point?

While I agree that the Sens did have top talent for years and never won, it doesnt mean they missed the boat and the team did not even exist in the modern era until 92/93 so good point about the 80 year drought that were in. I guess we've been rebuilding since 1927 by your logic. Both teams have been without the cup since about the same amount of time, but Ottawa has not been as badly managed as the rangers have been for the last 20 years.

My point about the rebuild is that we turned it around pretty quickly from being a bottom feader to a playoff team in one year and our core of younger players (karlsson, cowen, condra, greening, smith, turris, etc.) need to learn how to win and how hard it is to win in the playoffs before we can start to do serious damage, just like the rangers players like dubinsky, callahan, girardi and staal have done for the past few years.

And if you expect the rangers to go far the way they are playing right now your crazy. They are squeaking by the 8th seed. The only reason why they won the game last night was because of lundqvist. He wont be able to steal every game for them in the playoffs.

Ok sens101 - Keep hope alive... but you exactly prove my point.

Many recent years in playoffs with top talent and ZERO Cups (since 1927) = missed the boat.

Now as we're both saying.... they're back to rebuilding = MANY missed opportunities.

You say the rebuild is 'almost done'? Really?

It will be done when they achieve the goal of being Stanley Cup Champs.

Although, hey, maybe Sens fans are happy with being ALMOST good enough, eh?

yeah Ottawa has missed the boat. They made the playoffs when experts expected them to finish last. Their coach is probably a top Jack Adams award candidate along with Hitchcock and the rebuild is almost done after only one summer. We have a number of top tier prospects coming and are just a few pieces away. We are realistic any victories in this years playoffs is a bonus for the team. However, the experience this extremely young team gains, is going to be valuable next year. The rangers can barely compete with the Sens, and again, without Lundqvist, they are a 13th place team.

If it weren't for the Canadian teams, there would be no NHL. The Canadian hockey market is what drives the NHL revenue stream. As for Ottawa being outclassed, the sens outplayed the rangers last night but Lundqvist came up huge. If it wasn't for him, Rangers would not be relevant. If they get by Ottawa, they will be exposed for their lack of scoriing.

3 things: I wish Bob Cole could still call a game like he could 10 years or so ago, the Leafs need Pat Quinn back, and Friedman speculated that there was no call because NHL refs knew Tucker as a diver.

Remember when that ref called Boyle's punchingbag a diver and people said the ref should be suspended?

For those of you who think that because American teams are most successful in the NHL that means Americans are the best hockey players, put your crack pipes down. The majority of skilled NHL talent on American teams are Canadian players, and in the Rangers case, their best player is Swedish. Their best 2 forwards (skill wise) are Canadian (Richards) and Slovakian (Gaborik) although I love the American born players on NYR and wore my Callahan jersey proudly tonight.

Regardless, if you want to argue which country is best don't judge things off the NHL where teams are made up of players from around the world, but judge them off international competition, where Canada is currently ranked as the world #1 and holds the Olympic gold, an honor they were given by beating team USA.

GO RANGERS!

I for one hate the state of Canadian hockey affairs.

Frankly folks... you're about to see an complete Canadian NHL rebuilding project.

Vancouver and Ottawa don't have the fortitude to win it all. From coaching to players, they've missed their respective boats.

Toronto, Calgary, Montreal, Edmonton...well... when you can only muster 74-80 points, rebuilding is all you can do.

Add to that, the sour taste and unrest of missing the playoffs for 7 straight seasons in Toronto and the utter disunity and dysfunction in Montreal, it gets even uglier.

Some sad hockey years up north, when a new Winnipeg franchise IS the bright spot.
