Clearly you haven’t read many comments here. It would seem most, if not all hockey fans think Shannie is making himself look like an idiot. I try to remind myself that it is, after all, just a game, but I’ll say what everyone else is saying in that the inconsistencies in doling out “corrective action” is mind-boggling. I’ve never been one to jump on any bandwagons crying “this or that is ruining the game of hockey!” Mistakes get made. Officiating is not perfect. You and I are not down there on the ice seeing things from the players’, officials’ or coaches’ perspectives, nor do we recognize and applaud when things go right. However, I’m pretty convinced Shanahan owes the players, organizations, and fans an explanation for what appears to everyone listed above as increasingly irrational and arbitrary punishments and disciplines.

So barking at an opponent who’s being interviewed on a close form mic is equitable to delivering a wild haymaker while collaring the would-be victim and slamming his head into a solid fixture with the intent of serious physical harm…? Bring on the dancing horses…

Well, you have to remember. They want the head shots/illegal shots taken out of the game. The best way they think to do that is discipline by the result.

We’re talking about results….not intent…not the action itself….results.

I mean, this is results we’re talkin bout…..not intent….results.

nice, fine them a few hours before gametime to make it look like they are doing something. Im sure the rangers feel a lot better about this. The 1 game carkner suspension, this hefty fine and all hagelin has to do is sit 3 games. no biggie.

So in Brendan Shannahan’s eyes, $hit talking pregame is comparable to repeatedly smashing someone’s head off the glass? If anything he thinks it’s worse as he fined the organization also.

Nothing the league can do about it. It’s the most they can be fined under the current CBA. They lose more money if they are suspended of course. Yes, I agree It’s a BS loohpole in the current contract and needs to get tossed out.

The $2,500 fine they gave to Weber (who makes $7.5 mil this year I believe) is like you and me getting a $17 parking ticket.

It’s a tad ridiculous that the maximum fine for players that can make up to $10 million a year is $2500… That’s the equivalent of fining someone who makes $50k a fine of $12.50.
