Discuss: Bruins take back home ice advantage from Caps

It’s not quite Kings-Canucks, but the Washington Capitals are showing a lot of fight against the higher seeded Boston Bruins. Still, the seventh seed trails the defending Stanley Cup champions 2-1 in the series after a 4-3 Boston win, although Washington might just be planting the seeds of frustration for the B’s.

  • Braden Holtby wasn’t horrible by any means, but the Bruins were able to get to him quite a bit more – relatively speaking – in Game 3. Should Capitals fans be concerned that their young netminder might lose some confidence considering how small the margin of error has been?
  • Things got pretty “chippy” at times during this contest. Washington’s players have made it a point to say that they can bring the beef a little too, but should Dale Hunter be concerned if things get ugly – which rests right in Boston’s wheelhouse?
  • Speaking of things getting chippy, how do you feel about the way the game was officiated?
  • Milan Lucic showed some clear signs of frustration tonight. Can he find his game again? Is he the Bruins player who misses Nathan Horton‘s presence the most? Are the Caps in his head?
  • Stephen Whyno points out that Mike Green scored his first non-empty-netter-related point since returning from a sports hernia surgery on Feb. 18. Who would have thought a gifted offensive blueliner like Green could go more than two months without a point? Also, is this the worst contract year performance in recent memory?

When did the Caps become the Pens??? What a bunch of cowards!

    • subliminalnoize - Apr 16, 2012 at 10:40 PM

Lets not talk about Marchande(sp) diving all over the ice like another two year old I know that had his firetruck stolen.

      • drewsylvania - Apr 16, 2012 at 11:35 PM

I see your Marchand and raise you a Semin.

      • fubar77 - Apr 17, 2012 at 1:32 PM

Marchand got his balls speared…you know what those are right? Chimera even apologized for the spear. He was lucky he only got 2 min for slashing when it could have been 5 for spearing. Stick your head back in the sand and pretend you know something about hockey!

    • capsravens - Apr 16, 2012 at 10:49 PM

Really? What game were you watching? It’s been a close series and will continue to be, bruins got lucky that hendricks was sent to the box along with lucic created a 4 on 4, holbty had the save and it deflected in the net off of hamrlik. If that did not happen, we would still be playing right now…

      • hairpie - Apr 16, 2012 at 11:08 PM

Alzner should have been ejected during that cowardly play.

      • bearcountry17 - Apr 16, 2012 at 11:18 PM

Ya and if my aunt had a dick she’d be my uncle

      • 8spokedb - Apr 16, 2012 at 11:19 PM

Lucic got jumped by 3 players at once but he got the extra penalty to make it a 4-4 because the Bruins were already on the PP at the time. Refs tried their best to give the game to the Caps. They missed a penalty shot in the first when Holtby threw his stick and a High stick in the third by Chimera on Chara.

  2. upyourstodd - Apr 16, 2012 at 10:31 PM

Gutsy win by the Bruins. Who would have thought traffic in front would lead to 4 goals?

  3. habsman - Apr 16, 2012 at 10:38 PM

    Well I’ll ask it again.

When is the league going to do some thing about the sucker punching from Lucic and the rest of the Bruins? Or as Bruin fans mistakenly call it, tough hockey. Classless clowns just like their fan base.

    • ravenscaps48 - Apr 16, 2012 at 10:42 PM

How much will the Zebras let the Bruins get away with after the whistle? Marchand, Lucic, Kelly, Peverley, and Chara could probably get away with murder on the ice tonight…. And no, I’m not blaming this soley on the officials. Three Caps had an awful game that led to their goals. Marcus Johansson, Jeff Schultz, and Mike Green all sucked HARD tonight! On to the next one.

    • upyourstodd - Apr 16, 2012 at 10:42 PM

The NHL is a man’s game….(insert insensitive remark about the french/habs).

      • habsman - Apr 16, 2012 at 10:54 PM

Yes, your name would indicate that you enjoy man games.

    • back2backbees - Apr 16, 2012 at 10:43 PM

Is it lonely in your delusional world?

    • itsallniceonice - Apr 16, 2012 at 10:50 PM

      Ctl+C Ctl+V

    • mgp1219 - Apr 16, 2012 at 10:51 PM

      hey habswoman,
      how’s your spring going?

I guess you missed Wideman’s cross check to Lucic’s back before Lucic defended himself and Alzner putting him in a headlock as Lucic was engaged with Hendricks.

      • back2backbees - Apr 16, 2012 at 10:56 PM

His french colored glasses only let him see effect not cause

      • habsman - Apr 16, 2012 at 11:00 PM

The spring is going great. Enjoying some golf just like my Habs.

Spin, spin, and more spin. It’s a great strategy to try and convince people that they didn’t see what the did in fact see. For over two years now your gutless sucker punching, cheap shot team has got away with murder. Eventually it’s going to catch up with them. Then I’ll crack a nice bottle of 18 yr old Lagavullin to celebrate.

    • upyourstodd - Apr 16, 2012 at 11:04 PM

Id be suprised if you actually have intelligent thoughts on the physicality/cheapshots in the Pens/Flyers series.

    • bearcountry17 - Apr 16, 2012 at 11:20 PM

      You sound like a broad.

    • 8spokedb - Apr 16, 2012 at 11:23 PM

I thought Habs stood for classless clowns. How are the golf courses up in montreal this time of year? Hey at least you got the 3rd pick in the draft, you jealous frog.

      • habsman - Apr 16, 2012 at 11:38 PM

Ouch. Name calling. That hurt. I’ve got feelings you know.

Not from Montreal and not French. Not that it matters.

So, what about the sucker punching, or are you just going to continue to try and deflect attention?

    • drewsylvania - Apr 16, 2012 at 11:36 PM

Hahahahahaha screw you and your last-place golf playing team.

      • habsman - Apr 16, 2012 at 11:39 PM

        Haha’s….aren’t you clever.

      • cba77 - Apr 17, 2012 at 2:22 PM

Habsman…what is worse, a Lucic sucker punch or a Subban ice cappades dive? Get off your high horse douche bag

    • dropthepuckeh - Apr 17, 2012 at 7:06 AM

Habsman go away – your team lost the season months ago and you should follow their lead and stick your tail between your legs and leave. Lucic got mugged several times and obviously would have dropped the gloves and fought anyone cleanly. Instead Wideman and Alzner cross checked him and then hid behind the pile. Backstrom cross check? Interesting coming from a guy who missed most of the year with a concussion but then again so did Crosby.

The only clown here is Habsman who continues to troll the boards spouting the same crap. Where is the Collie comment Habsman? Shouldn’t you be looking for apt’s so you can get out of your parent’s basement?

  4. mgp1219 - Apr 16, 2012 at 10:41 PM

B’s turned it up whren they had to, but as a Bruins fan, I wasn’t happy with some of their sloppy play in their own zone. Happy for the win, though.

  5. coacheskid - Apr 16, 2012 at 10:48 PM

    Habsman’s is a girl

    • fubar77 - Apr 17, 2012 at 1:37 PM

Hey, why ya gotta insult the girls!?

  6. kacapaco - Apr 16, 2012 at 10:48 PM

Capitals liberals wore an Obama Halloween mask to scare TT. Even liberals know O is scary. As always, Tim Thomas tops Obama & his fans. Go Bruins!

    • fullbagg - Apr 17, 2012 at 12:56 AM

Hey numbnuts, tickets cost $1500 to $2000 behind Thomas. Ain’t many liberals there cubby!

      • joshuakorr - Apr 17, 2012 at 2:55 AM

Liberals earn per capita way more than conservatives, most attribute it to more education.

      • fullbagg - Apr 17, 2012 at 9:25 AM

Lived here all my life. They are mostly a conservative crowd.

I mean really!?! A liberal who likes violence like Hockey?? Around here, only uneducated redneck imbreds like hockey. So they think.

        DATS ME!!!

  7. upyourstodd - Apr 16, 2012 at 10:49 PM

Washington/Verizon center gives Brooks Laich first star…..

    • capsravens - Apr 16, 2012 at 10:53 PM

who would you have given it to? Brooks earned it, played hard all night even took a undeserved penalty on a face off.

      • itsallniceonice - Apr 16, 2012 at 10:56 PM

Chara. Played 20 minutes, had 3 points and scored go ahead goal.

      • upyourstodd - Apr 16, 2012 at 10:58 PM

He played well, scoring a huge goal with a heady play to sneak behind the B’s defense. But the Captain of the Bruins scores the game winning goal and adds two assists…Zdeno Chara didnt forget to bring his game tonight. First Star indeed.

  8. itsallniceonice - Apr 16, 2012 at 10:53 PM

Backstrom with the match penalty at the end of the game. Could mean some good news for the Bruins!

  9. spokedjackets - Apr 16, 2012 at 10:56 PM

    Hey Alzner, who’s crying now?

  10. hairpie - Apr 16, 2012 at 10:57 PM

How many games will Alzner get for being a coward and jumping Lucic from behind while he was engaged with another player? How about Backstrom for his cowardly shot on Peverly?

    • habsman - Apr 16, 2012 at 11:03 PM

      • back2backbees - Apr 16, 2012 at 11:06 PM

        Yer laundry is done lady

    • fullbagg - Apr 17, 2012 at 12:58 AM

Oh yeah. He doesn’t play for the Penwhines, he’s screwed…

  11. drewzducks - Apr 16, 2012 at 10:58 PM

Hey crappyravens, you must have missed the spear to Marchands groin and the high stick to Chara’s head. Nice attempt at taunting towards Luc by that cowardly Capital. Cundiff wide left.

    • capsravens - Apr 16, 2012 at 11:07 PM

Football season is over ducks… We all saw it, there was plenty of rough stuff after the whistle. laich was called for getting thrown to the ice after holding his ground… bradying… oh by the way, hows gronks ankle?

      • 8spokedb - Apr 16, 2012 at 11:36 PM

Did ray lewis murder cundiff yet after the AFC Championshp? I heard hes good for that.

      • drewzducks - Apr 17, 2012 at 12:12 AM

Rough stuff on both sides. It’s called playoff hockey. Alzner better hope this series stays close or he’s gonna suffer a major beat down. Should have let Luc and Hendricks do their thing. Gronks ankle is fine just ask Bibi Jones.

      • cba77 - Apr 17, 2012 at 2:26 PM

really…your talking football when your team lost….priceless. Get ready for them Orioles, their all you got come Saturday around 6pm

    • habsman - Apr 16, 2012 at 11:19 PM

Dr. Recchi will take care of Marchands groin.

      • drewzducks - Apr 17, 2012 at 12:16 AM

That’s more of a Canadien job. Sounds right up Stefan “five hole” Richer’s alley. Nice game winning tip in by Hamerlik tonight. At least he wasn’t left cowering on the ice like last year.

      • habsman - Apr 17, 2012 at 12:20 AM

Isn’t it around this time of night you start hitting women?

      • drewzducks - Apr 17, 2012 at 1:06 AM

Only Habsmen. Don’t confuse me with St. Patrick the wife beater.

      • habsman - Apr 17, 2012 at 1:10 AM

St. Patrick is a coward, just like you.

  12. dougr42 - Apr 16, 2012 at 11:10 PM

Stupid headline. The next game IS in Washington. Did I miss something?

    • upyourstodd - Apr 16, 2012 at 11:14 PM

Home ice advantage means if you win all you home games you win the series.

    • upyourstodd - Apr 16, 2012 at 11:17 PM

      Correction…remaining home games

  13. dcfan4life - Apr 16, 2012 at 11:10 PM

Funny how everyone is making note of all the ugly this game had and forgetting that this is a GREAT series, with all 3 games decided by 1 goal in either overtime or the last 2 minutes. If this series doesnt go 7 i will be surprised.

  14. gallyhatch - Apr 16, 2012 at 11:21 PM

I love it. The Caps are poking the bear and it will likely come back to haunt them. Butthurt fans can talk all they want about Colin Campbell and whatever other cognitive dissonance it takes for them to sleep at night, but the fact is the Bruins are a great team, and provided they stay injury free, they will be contenders for the next few years.

    LET’S GO BRUINS!!!!!!

    • habsman - Apr 16, 2012 at 11:48 PM

But what about the sucker punching?

      • hairpie - Apr 17, 2012 at 12:25 AM

We’ve addressed it. Everyone seems to agree Alzner should get suspended for it. If he doesnt, the embarrassment of being such a coward is punishment enough.

      • ntestarossa - Apr 17, 2012 at 12:17 PM

What sucker punching? Show me a video of it, if you mean when two people are standing face to face and they throw punches? Thats called fighting.

dont worry Habs fan, we understand the only way for you to win is to call out bogus penalties, and then flail around like you were just shot.

  15. blomfeld - Apr 17, 2012 at 1:07 AM

    “It’s not quite Kings-Canucks”

like, no kidding man ! … and guess what, the world ain’t flat either !

I realize that the writer of this article means well and all … but the bottom line remains that the sooner this mental case “Ovi” is dispatched back to the Urals, the better it will be for all of us ! … nobody likes this fake “money-grubbing” parasite, just as nobody cares for his stupid penchant of “holidaying in Florida with men” … so the sooner we’re rid of this freak, the better ! … GO BRUINS GO !

ps: sorry to all you faithful Caps fans out there, but the truth of the matter is that you’re being hood-winked by the is new-age leach … Ovechkin is an absolute disgrace to all of the glorious Soviet greats who’ve preceded him and he has no business taking your hard-earned dollars for the “junk” which he offers ! … here’s how it’s supposed to be:

  16. crusty14 - Apr 17, 2012 at 9:09 AM

Bruin fan here… Alzner should not be suspended, it shouldn’t even be looked at by Shanny. Now, I think it was wrong for Lucic to get the extra two, but that’s all I see wrong there.

Backstrom gets an automatic game for a match penalty.

And habsman, get off the sucker punching thing! If you have watched 2 minutes of any playoff game, you would see that there is nary a whistle without a little punch up, cross checks, oe face washes !

  17. groess - Apr 17, 2012 at 12:36 PM

Habsman…Seriously. You have such a hard on for the Bruins, it’s laughable!
Sucker punching? I haven’t seen a play-off game this year without it. And couldn’t you come up with a better example than the Lucic incident. I don’t know if you were actually watching the same game as the rest of us, but it was Lucic that was clearly attacked first. Maybe if your team had a little toughness to it, it would still be around, but they are about the most non-threatening team in the league…and this is where the big boys play.
