but phillips did do something, he threw an elbow a lot more severe at callahan's head and for some reason hagelin is sitting three games. exactly, he had to fight neil and he did. in carkners case, he didnt have a choice, he dropped his glove and was hitting him and then hit him when he was down. wasnt really a fight if you ask me.

He fought Neil because he had to. He had no choice. He knew that if he didn't, the sens would be coming after him all game. Boyle is a big guy, by no mean a bona fide fighter, which most sens fans know because we all watch a lot of hockey. The fact remains that the Rangers publicised a game plan to go after karlsson (finish checks, hit him, get him into scrums etc.) before game 1 and then Boyle did exactly that. They both got penalties because the refs blew the call. Boye completely instigated that whole incident, and while he gave Karlsson more noogies than anything, it should have been one penalty. If you say that is was two sided or not deliberate on the part of Boyle, then your head must be so far up boyles ass that you have no rational thought process. I'm not whining about Karlsson at all, he is a small player has to adjust which he does quite well with his skating and his stick. But if for example, Chris Phillips (also not a figher) does the same thing to Richards or Gaborik, do you not want your team to respond? You think Torts would hesitate to put the Prust/ Rupp line out there? When it comes down to it, if your going to mess with a teams best players, you better answer the bell. Thats been the MO in the league for the last few years now, like it or not.

he did man up, he fought Neil. He dropped the gloves with him, thats what a hockey fight is. Not some guy skating across and jumping him. In regards to Karlsson, this whining about him is embarrassing already. Everyone makes it as if boyle dropped his gloves and slugged Karlsson and dragged him around the ice. it was a nothing to do, boring play. BOTH players got matching minors. They were washing eachothers faces w their gloves on after a whistle. Happens every single play. Senator fans have this notion that boyle is our tough goon. First of all, hes a horrible fighter, he never coins himself as a fighter, he doesnt play dirty and when he does actually fight, its usually against guys with a rep to fight so hes outmatched. I keep seeing on threads how the senators took care of the rangers goon. Dont be mistaken, there about about 8 guys on this rangers roster or more that can destroy Boyle. I dont see how boyle 'went after" karlsson. they were pushing and shoving after a whistle. Thats like someone whining that callahan was elbowed by phillips and callahan is half his size. Some people just play a bigger game, Karlsson isnt that much smaller than callahan and hes destroying people on open ice hits. Spare us with the Karlsson was attacked routine already.

while i agree that shanny is doing a terrible job in disciplining players, how can you say that there was no intent to injure. nobody really know that except for Haglin. The bottom line is that was an irresponsible play. He had no business getting is elbow up that high. He should have led with his shoulder. I do agree that since he took injury into account, the suspension should be reduced by one game in light of the fact that he did not get a game misconduct. As for Carkner, the only coward is Boyle who won't man up and face the music after going after one of the smallest players in the NHL. He's 6ft5in or more and buckled like a little girl, not to mention he should have expected such treatment after going after Karlsson.

also, before saying the injury is the reason for the suspension, why doesnt the league actually investigate if there actually is one.

I thought the league prohibits you from playing with a concussion. Also, isn't protocol he has to sit for 2 days? this isnt even a day and a half later. He shouldnt be practicing, and lets be real here, this guy will be in the lineup tonight. Shanahan based this suspension on the fact he injured a player. There have been worse hits/plays going down in this postseason by repeat offenders and Hagelin was hit the hardest. Unreal. I guess in hindsight Ryan Callahan should have left the game on saturday, he faced a much dirtier elbow from Phillips. I guess that would have landed him 3 games as well. An elbow to the head with really no intent to injure and the guy playing the next game, 3 games. Taking someones head, bashing it wwf style against the glass, zero games. Inserting a bum player into the lineup, seeking a player out, cowardly jumping him and throwing punches while he was down, 1 game. Its incredible.

Playing with a concussion? sounds really really dangerous well if he does play with it hope he doesn't hurt him self more. This isn't the old NHL days where to be a man you have to play through things like concussions.
