Chris Therien: “Crosby is an absolute joke”

Apr 16, 2012, 6:59 PM EDT

Like many hockey fans, Chris Therien didn’t think too much of Sidney Crosby‘s performance Sunday. But unlike many hockey fans, the former Flyers defenseman was able to use his job as color commentator on Sportsradio 94 WIP to let it be known.

Give it a listen below. It’s quite the tirade.

“What is to say somebody can’t just punch [Crosby's] lights right out, concussion or no concussion?…Punch him in the face as hard as you can.”

    He’s exactly right…

    • somekat - Apr 16, 2012 at 7:25 PM

“The whole thing is Crosby’s fault”
      “Crosby is a joke”
“This is a joke, Crosby is an embarassment”
      “He is a disgrace”
“He’s caused more teammates to fight his battles today than any player I’ve ever seen in my life”

      I don’t see a tirade, I see blatant observations

      • fullbagg - Apr 16, 2012 at 8:39 PM

        I HATE the Flyers…..

Freaking Bravo Hartnell! All he tried to do was leave even as Crosby Creme tried to pull him down from behind.

        Pittsburgh is a joke.

        1 more beatdown to go…

    • sbutler66 - Apr 17, 2012 at 9:37 AM

      Exactly right.

That’s what the Pens should do to Giroux in game 4 because that kind of behaviour is tolerated and expected in Philly. It’ll be fine.

Then there’s part where they say Crosby has proven that he plays by different rules and wouldn’t get penalised. Shock horror, he does get a penalty for it?!

He’s a joke for trying to spark the team. What a crappy captain! You wouldn’t ever in the history of the NHL find any captain doing that. What a joke he is.

      • HawaiiHockey - Apr 17, 2012 at 4:02 PM

I understand you really love the Penguins… fine. Take pride in your team because they played pretty damn good all year, even when their top player and captain was out for an extended period.

But when you stand behind Crosby for his petty actions in this particular game, you’re standing behind a style of play that is based on arrogant agitation with no direct consequences. Its not just a matter of Crosby fighting and being rough. Crosby had no intent of standing behind his actions. Did you see his fight? He throws a punch while Giroux is talking to him and then pulls him down to the ice as fast as he can. He refused to drop his gloves after pulling Hartnell around from behind for no reason. Did you see Crosby get in a scrap over that? Nope. His buddy Neal did, and as a result, what appeared to be an accidental hair pulling occurred and he got a suspension while the real instigator will be back in Game 4 causing more trouble for other people.

      • hcky000 - Apr 18, 2012 at 1:21 AM

Hartnell wasn’t trying to leave stupid, he was holding Crosby’s stick! And you, the Giroux fight is exactly what a good captian should have done. If it wasn’t Crosby everyone would be saying good job on trying to spark your team. Ever heard of Joe Thorton or Jerome Iginlaare examples of other captains that would do the same.

      • HawaiiHockey - Apr 18, 2012 at 2:12 PM

@hcky000: a good captain pokes the opposing players gloves away while trying to pick them up? Maybe he should tickle the other team next time before the puck drops. Oooh, boy- that’d really get ‘im!

  2. buffalocentric - Apr 16, 2012 at 7:05 PM

As much as I don’t want to agree, because I have no love for either team, Chris Therien is 100% correct about Crosby. The NHL superstars in the league get special treatment, if Crosby was some guy on the 4th line he would have been ejected.

    • polegojim - Apr 16, 2012 at 10:39 PM

The Kid just makes this all TOOOOOO Easy.

Punk – lights out one day. Good night on the ice.

        Just like Lindros eh…

      • polegojim - Apr 17, 2012 at 11:24 AM

Actually No, Crosby makes it MUCH easier.

    • callingitfromthehip - Apr 18, 2012 at 6:29 PM

I’m a Blackhawks fan and anyone who pllays the Redwings fan , I have to agree with Chris , Crosby is pathetic ! Fight your own battles the Crosbys,Sedin sisters , and Shannahans are what’s making his league fall apart ,let’s go back the 70′s and 80′s rules ,real hockey! No drama !

  3. jucam1 - Apr 16, 2012 at 7:05 PM

100% right Bundy!!!… That little girl knows everyone wants to protect him, and he is lucky the Flyers don’t end him!

  4. greggoldberg - Apr 16, 2012 at 7:06 PM

Hahahahahahahahaha he grabs a 37-year old who’s never fought a guy in his life and tries to start going with him. Embarrassing.

  5. steelhammer92 - Apr 16, 2012 at 7:12 PM

Philly fans acting all high and mighty all of a sudden after decades of using the same kind of antics. Hilarious.

Look, they’ve beat the snot out of my Pens this series and embarrassed them. I accept that. Just quit with the choir boy routine. “Oh, the poor Flyers are getting roughed up by those meanie Penguins.” Give me a break.

    • somekat - Apr 16, 2012 at 7:18 PM

Is it the 70s again? That was the last time the Flyers had a “dirty” team, and news flash, it wasn’t against the rules then.. But sure, whatever makes you feel better about that fact that the Pens are a 2nd rate team, that is in freefall mode, and will be ready to fold/move again in 5 years when your fair weather fanbase abandons them………again

      Pens – Dirty
      Steelers – Dirty
      Pirates – Terrible

Apparently, the only way a team can play well out of that rat hole is to play dirty

      • steelhammer92 - Apr 16, 2012 at 7:35 PM

Try the entire Mike Richards era. Guys like Hatcher, Pronger, Carcillo, Hartnell before he finally started playing hockey this year.. None of those guys are choir boys. Don’t tell me Philly fans didn’t enjoy the rough stuff either, that’s a flat out lie. You made out well on some offseason transactions. Congratulations. The high and mighty routine needs to stop though, because you sound like nothing but hypocrites.

      • whlskey - Apr 16, 2012 at 10:18 PM

        Dear steelhammer92,

You’re right. They’re not choir boys, they’re hockey players. Hockey players who play the game the way it should be: physical, rough, tenacious, enthusiastically, emotionally, leave it all out on the ice, and most of all, they back-up their style of play like a man. I’m all for an athlete playing rough, and sometimes a little “dirty” to an extent, but there’s an unwritten rule that if you’re going to play that style of hockey, you must be prepared to understand that there will be repercussions and sometimes you’ll have to suffer the consequences. If Crosby wants to play that way, so be it.. But do not think for 1 second that he will gain any respect from his peers if he continues with the so-called “rough stuff” and then runs and hides behind teammates, officials, and his head. If he truly is worried about another concussion, maybe he should think twice (hell, thrice for that matter) about hacking at the goalie well after the whistle, sticking someone’s glove away from them as they’re bending down to pick it up just because “you don’t like them,” only throwing punches when the linesman steps in, grabbing someone from behind and tag-teaming him with another dude, and basically just being an overall douche bag. Be a man and stand up for yourself, and fight your own battles. My father taught me that when I was 6 years old, it’s a pretty simple concept. Thank you for your time and consideration, and You’re Welcome.

      • sbutler66 - Apr 17, 2012 at 9:20 AM

The 70s was the last time the Flyers had a dirty team? Have you been living in a hole?

Oh sorry, Philly is a hole…

      • tcclark - Apr 17, 2012 at 10:58 AM

they’ve had physical teams, but they haven’t been dirty.

      • wuddymaters - Apr 19, 2012 at 2:33 AM

pulease. actually the pittsburgh fans have been voted best in hockey quite a few times. you can say whatever you want about pittsburgh sports, to us philadelphia sports has been essentially irrelevant for the past 30 years. since your vaunted flyers won their last title, we have 9 sports titles to your 3. you’re not even on the radar. when the flyers won, there were only 16 teams in the league. it wasn’t nearly as difficult to do as today. i’ll give them their due. they were talented and that often gets over looked. but as far as an organization goes, the Flyers have been nothing but Also-Rans since people were lining up to play Pong. The Pens have more cups than the Flyers, the Pirates have more titles than the Phillies and naturally the Steelers have more titles/superbowls than the Eagles. We may live in a rat hole but unlike that sewer to the east, our teams actually win championships.

      • captjackwagon - Apr 19, 2012 at 10:47 AM

        @somekat
Your comments make you sound like an idiot.

Pens- 3 Stanley Cups, Flyers 2
Steelers- 6 Super Bowl Cahmpionships, Eagles (Dream Team) 0
Pirates- 5 World Series Championships, Philadelphia 7.

If the Pens and other sports teams from Pittsburgh are second rate, what does that make the Philadelhia teams?

And you are kidding with the “Is it the 70s again? That was the last time the Flyers had a “dirty” team” comment, right?

When are they going to put a jail/judge/court at the hockey arena?

Kind of funny hearing from the Philly fans whining about toughness when the hammer gets dropped, eh? All you have talked about is how the Pens whine…right. And where did Asham come from? Oh yeah, forgot about that.

      • somekat - Apr 19, 2012 at 2:43 PM

Not kidding at all about the not dirty comment. Please show examples of the flyers “dirty” play in the 80′s and 90′s. I gurantee I can find a similar amount of incident from the Pens

I didn’t say your sports teams were second rate. I said they couldn’t win without playing dirty. I said your city was second rate, reading comprehension, know it, love it.

wow, funny, jail in the stadium. More than 1/3 of them have the now, but hey, it matters!

Ahsam came from Montreal, not sure why that matters. If it is some idiotic point that he came from Philly, he was here just as long as he was in Pitt, and I haven’t heard a big backlash of Pitt fans saying they should get rid of him (like they were in Philly after 2 years)

Now that I answered all your idiotic questions, I would like one answered myself. Where were you 3 days ago when this was posted? I know, hiding with the rest of the fair weather Pittsburgh fan base. What a suprise, they put up a bunch of goals and now your are out again…you prove my point perfectly. The lose, Pitt fans ignore them, they win, all of a sudden you are great fans

  7. lameasish - Apr 16, 2012 at 7:16 PM

Sounds like alot of you are jealous of a 24 year old kid who has done more in his life than all of us combined. Every player in the game does the stuff he does after the whistle, when u are at the top, you are an easy target (ask LeBron). You people act like he is some worthless player that no team would want. Another point is that he is Canadian, do not even try to say if he was American that all u guys wouldn’t defend him. He’s one of the best players on the planet, grow up and deal with it.

    • somekat - Apr 16, 2012 at 7:20 PM

Should be easy to find since “Every player in the game does the stuff he does afterthe whistle”

    • phillyphever - Apr 16, 2012 at 7:21 PM

Yeah, I’m SOOOOOO jealous about how my life is worse than a whiny, 24 year brat who’s been treated like a king since he was 7 years old. Hey moron, if you act the way Crosby acted yesterday, you deserved to get called out on the carpet for being an immature kid. It finally took everyone else to know what we already know in Philly.

    • lasallehockey81 - Apr 16, 2012 at 8:01 PM

This has a chance to be the most ridiculous thing Ive ever seen posted here and thats saying a lot. First of all.. he plays a game… now he might be very good at that game, sure, but its a game nonetheless… lets relax with overstating this guys contribution to society as a whole…he didnt cure cancer… he won a Stanley Cup.. theres a difference when you start making accusations like you just did…

Second, what the heck does him being Canadian have anything to do with anything? Did I miss something and Canada became Iraq overnight?

    • obamablowz - Apr 16, 2012 at 8:01 PM

Has he gone to Iraq and Afghanistan fighting for his country? I’d like to say that is one thing I’m proud of that he hasn’t done. FLUCK CROSBY

    • orangegesus - Apr 16, 2012 at 8:02 PM

If the Pens insist on him remaining “captain” (he is 100 percent the exact opposite of what a captain should be) – they should at least sew a lower-case “c” on his sweater. One of the sissy cursive c’s you learn to write in first grade.

    • greenkeeper15 - Apr 16, 2012 at 7:43 PM

yes finally some jack wagon brought up santa clause that happened back in the sixties genius and he was drunk and we threw snowballs at him get it straight. Mike Schmidt played in the eighties, Micheal Irvin ,please also in the nineties and James Harrison is so classy. Get a life your team lookes like a bunch of fools and the whole hockey world knows it. Hey at least give us credit for beating the Russians but we played dirty in that game to

    • orangegesus - Apr 16, 2012 at 8:19 PM

You left out the standing ovation for Lemieux. Because even though we hated him, we respected him.. No one respects Crosby or how he plays the game.

    • epictron1 - Apr 16, 2012 at 11:13 PM

I’m sure Flyers fans will cheer when someone crushes Crosby, and he’s laying on the ice staring at the lights. I know I will. Just like I did for Irvin.

      • sbutler66 - Apr 17, 2012 at 9:49 AM

Good for you, whatever floats your boat.

  11. phillyphever - Apr 16, 2012 at 7:30 PM

After yesterday, Pittsburgh really needs to seriously think about either trading Crosby in the offseason or stripping him of the “C”. Absolute disgrace what he did yesterday. How can you get respect from your teammates as a captain if you pull crap like that?

    • steelhammer92 - Apr 16, 2012 at 7:38 PM

I know. Maybe he should have been a good captain and grab Giroux by the head and slammed it into the glass.

      • biasedhomer - Apr 16, 2012 at 8:46 PM

Maybe he should have been a good captain and kept his composure. When you let your irrational emotions take over, your teammates will do the same.

Neal saw how Crosby was acting, and acted just like Crosby. That is clearly not the sign of a real leader. Matt Cooke would have been a better captain. Just because you are the best player on the team, doesnt mean you are captain material, you can still be the same immature player you were when you were a teenager.

    • sbutler66 - Apr 17, 2012 at 9:30 AM

Crosby was trying to spark the Pens by being physical. He was willing to go, he went with CG who is pretty similar in size and who was also willing to go. I’m sure he would’ve gone with Hartnell too, i didn’t see him looking around to tag out like so many suggest.

Any other captain or player who has done this throughout history of the NHL gets kudos for trying to get the team going. Heck, Schenn crosschecks Sid in the back and is called a character guy by fans and the media. Just because it’s Crosby he is a disgrace.

To say it back fired is a different arguement, and i agree a valid one, but a disgrace is way over the top.

  12. capone2510 - Apr 16, 2012 at 7:37 PM

Crosby has proven himself to be a total douchebag. How anyone can get on here and defend him is unbelievable. Fan of his or not, you gotta see what an asshole he is

oh man…mom jokes…ouch…you guys never stopped riding the short bus did you

      • tcclark - Apr 17, 2012 at 12:31 AM

Oh man…. I’m gonna have to explain them for you. Mine wasn’t really a “mom joke.” While it does insult your mom (rightfully so, i’m sure), the main focus of the joke was that you couldn’t possibly get any other woman. My friend ml3939 however took his in a whole new direction. He not only insulted you, your mom, and your “wife,” but the entire city of Pittsburgh as well. It was really well put together I must say. Bravo to him. You see, he took that dirty, smog covered, steel mill you guys call a city, and likened it to the backwoods, incestuousness ways, of certain towns in western Pennsylvania. Classic!

Either way, neither of them were much of a “mom joke,” but let me know if you need more explaining. I’ll understand if you don’t. It must be pretty embarrassing to have to get something explained to you by a guy who “never stopped riding the short bus”…..

      • captjackwagon - Apr 19, 2012 at 11:45 AM

        @tcclark,
You are a tool. Pittsburgh has been rated as one of America’s most livable cities how many times?

Can’t say that for Philthadelphia. You were agreeing with another “friend” when he said that Pittsburghers were living in the 70′s. It hasn’t been a “dirty, smog covered, steel mill you guys call a city” since then. I have seen numerous posts of yours (on this and other articles). Sometimes you sound rational and partially educated (probably homeschooled so you didn’t get your butt kicked on the short bus), and others you sound like a complete idiot.
Take your meds, quit living in your mom’s basement, and get a job.

  14. pensfan29 - Apr 16, 2012 at 7:45 PM

Best player in the WORLD. Every single player does stuff after the whistle in hockey. Its part of the game. If the guy doesnt hit anyone, hes called soft. If he plays physical, hes called dirty. The Philly fans need to get off their high horse. I know Philly is an absolute first class city (sarcasm), but come on now. This is from the same city who had one of it’s esteemed citizens intentionally puke on a little girl at a baseball game. You got the better of us this time, but if you’re going to call Crosby dirty or a “joke” you need to look at yourselves in the mirror.

    • trigzter - Apr 16, 2012 at 7:55 PM

I’d love to find one Flyer with the track record of Matt Cooke

    • HawaiiHockey - Apr 16, 2012 at 8:32 PM

I don’t live in pennsylvania, never been to philly or pittsburgh, and I don’t really care for either team all that much. But what I see is that Pens fans rip on Philly fans while Philly fans rip on Pens play and players. To be fair, I’ve seen it go both ways a little. But mostly its been Penguins fans attacking Philadelphia.

As long as you let that arrogant whining Crosby represent you, you’re going to be defending something that is wrong on so many levels. As a “normal” player, crosby is just irritating. As the NHL’s poster boy, crosby is insulting. If you can’t recognize that, you’re just ignoring the situation.

    • biasedhomer - Apr 16, 2012 at 8:42 PM

Um, Crosby is clearly a dirty, cheap shot player. And whats even more of a disgrace is he needs his teammates to step up for him, even though he instigated it all.

If Crosby wasnt playing on Sunday, there would be half as many penalties.

    • tcclark - Apr 16, 2012 at 9:58 PM

there’s a difference between being physical and being cheap. Knocking a guys glove away is not being physical. Grabbing a guy from behind (Hartnell) is not being physical. Tag teaming a player (Hartnell again) with a teammate and punching him while he’s on the ground is not being physical. Punching a guy who’s pinned to the ice by a referee (Giroux) is not being physical. Grabbing and trying to fight a 68 year old man (Timonen) is not being physical.

I swear some Pens fans just looked at the box score and saw “Crosby: 5 Minutes for Fighting” and assumed it was a clean fight

    • benzoids - Apr 17, 2012 at 9:04 AM

Which one of the Flyers was a captain, a stanley cup winner and an olympic gold medal holder by the age of 22? Crosby is too busy with all of his endorsements to worry about what any of those people in Philly think of him.

Chris Therien have you ever won anything? Jealousy is such an ugly thing…

      • tcclark - Apr 17, 2012 at 10:52 AM

in my opinion, this is all the Flyers playing a brilliant mind game with the Penguins, and backing up their talk with goals

  21. cspuck7 - Apr 16, 2012 at 8:23 PM

For all of those Pens fans out there who argue that he’s just doing what everybody else does after the whistle, remember a few things. Crosby is a top line, star player and a CAPTAIN, not a third/fourth line player ala Cooke, Vitale etc. He let his team down yesterday by acting like a spoiled child, and none of his actions should be defended as “like everybody else” because as we as hockey fans are annoyingly reminded at all times, he is SUPPOSED to be the best player in the world. Act like it

Is this the class people from Philadelphia have that Pittsburghers lack?

Yeah its sad right? He’d probably be a doctor, or teacher, or scientist in Pittsburgh though. Heck, he might even be mayor one day.

Hey bob, there are idiots like this posting from both cities (like you). Pens’ fans have been a little more quiet because of their current circumstances. We are all still waiting with bated breath for your first thought provoking, credible or discussion worthy commentary (yawn).

  26. moneygreen932 - Apr 16, 2012 at 9:01 PM

everybody calling Crosby a dirty player are the true whinners here… the guy is trying to hype his team.. he is not a fighter he’s a playmaker and one of the best in the league just look at the players interviews when he was gone who want to play against him when they play pittsburgh.. there is no such thing as a squeaky clean player in today’s NHL.. so he elbows sometimes, so he slashes sometimes, so what? so does Stamkos, and look at all the hits Ovie leaves his feet on… so get over it and stop whining about what Crosby does… and if your mad about the treatment he gets blame the league and Gary Bettman. don’t blame Sid because i can bet he didn’t ask to have his ass whiped

  28. bobhpine - Apr 16, 2012 at 9:11 PM

Was therein playing defense when the penguins won those cups? I don’t remember. Actually I don’t even remember a thing about him. Flyer fans seems to have internalized the long list of penguins accomplishments though. What’s the word for that?

    • tcclark - Apr 17, 2012 at 12:44 AM

      1. three Stanley cups.

Wow. You’re right. That was a long list.

      • bobhpine - Apr 17, 2012 at 1:26 AM

        jealousy is the word

      • tcclark - Apr 17, 2012 at 8:25 AM

The truth is, the Penguins have one more Stanley Cup than the Flyers. But after that, the Penguins don’t even have a leg to stand on. Let’s not go on here and talk about the “long list of accomplishments” of a team that has been historically below average; a team that has a career winning percentage that’s lower than the New York Islanders. I would much rather be always good and great twice, than always bad and great three times.

      • ml3939 - Apr 17, 2012 at 11:32 AM

Therien was not in the league when the Pens won their first 2 cups. You don’t know anything about him because you don’t know anything about hockey. And Bob, what were the major accomplishments beyond the 3 cups? Don’t site their top players because Lemeiux was the result of intentional losing and Crosby and Malkin were the result of being a piss poor team. So please, elaborate on the accomplishments. Was it their abominable first 23 years in the league? Those 17 times they missed the playoffs? Oh I know, that time they blew a 3-0 series lead. I will let you fill in the rest.

    You stay classy, Pittsburgh!

    • ndrdog - Apr 19, 2012 at 11:48 PM

Asham has been in the league for 14 years and until this series hasn’t had so much as a warning from the league office for any type of disciplinary action what so ever. I think it’s a per-requite to have at least a misdemeanor just to drive through Philly these days. Heck, less than a year ago two Ranger fans were beaten, one was a cop, after the Winter Classic and than the “Classy” Philly fans went out and bragged about it. Who is really the “Classier” city? I think the fans behavior on these boards and on the streets answer that question every day.

  30. dawglb - Apr 16, 2012 at 9:55 PM

If I was Jody Shelley, I would pick up Crosby (like a club), and beat Malkin with him.

“I can’t really hear what he has to say with my gold medal and my stanley cup ring in my ears.” – Sidney Crosby

    • tcclark - Apr 17, 2012 at 12:47 AM

why did he put them in his ears? That just seems stupid.

  32. dawglb - Apr 16, 2012 at 10:02 PM

Wait, let’s solve this….. Let’s ask Brn Roethlisberger what he thinks of Cindy Crosby. What? He can’t be reached?? He is out combing college towns for hammered underage girls??

    • creasemasta41 - Apr 17, 2012 at 3:31 PM

Im pretty sure 99% of girls in college are over 18, making them legal and your comment irrelevant

Well said, but I wouldn’t hold my breath waiting for it to happen if I were you.

  34. bobhpine - Apr 16, 2012 at 11:27 PM

and we should ask michael vick what??? Dawglb…at east our derelict qb wins super bowls…you wouldnt know anything about that

    • tcclark - Apr 17, 2012 at 12:52 AM

Yeah cause winning a superbowl makes statutory rape ok, but serving 2 years in prison for a crime that usually warrants probation on a first offense does nothing.

      • bobhpine - Apr 17, 2012 at 1:29 AM

ben was never charged…michael vick was convicted of murdering dogs and gambling on it…do you know the legal effect of a conviction vs. not even a charge (actually not even an arrest)….probably not, you seem dumb

      • tcclark - Apr 17, 2012 at 8:24 AM

Vick pleaded guilt to financing the house and attending some dog fights. He was charge more with aiding and abetting dog fighting than he was charged with actually dog fighting. He also admitted to knowing dags were killed, but not actually doing it himself. He got a longer sentence than most of the guys who were actually doing the fighting and killing . He was used as a scapegoat and a poster child for dogfighting.

And yes, i do know the difference between a conviction and a charge. I also know that there isn’t a difference between perception and reality. the perception is that the Eagles Quarterback was a dogfighter and the Steelers quarterback is a rapist and a woman beater. Now I’m not going to start an argument about which one is worse, but I will say that in society’s eyes Michael Vick has paid for his crimes and can start to move on from that perception whereas Ben Roethlisberger hasn’t and will always be labeled as a rapist, just like Ray Lewis who is still labeled as a murder.

  36. cowgut1 - Apr 17, 2012 at 7:42 AM

Sounds like Bundy called it like it is. What an ass Crosby made of not only himself but his whole team. Flyers fans shld all bring pacifiers to the game Wednesday and shower him with them.

  37. lsxphotog - Apr 17, 2012 at 8:18 AM

Pens fans refuse to observe that Sunday’s game wasn’t a “rough game” played like “old hockey” – it was a breakdown in character. Crosby flapped his gums all game and, by doing so, insured his team would be down 3-0 in the series – some leader.

The game featured calculated attempts to injure Schenn, Couturier, Giroux, and more. That said, nothing remotely close has been presented by the Flyers this series. That isn’t acceptable in modern hockey, and that’s not what a team that screamed its whiny, selfish faces off about better implementing suspensions and strict punishment against illegal hits should be doing. The word is “hypocrite” and the game was also a display of false entitlement.

I hope they get swept. That team has earned a long summer to identify that they aren’t untouchables and actually have to web things. Bylsma already Pittsburgh Penguined his was to a Jack Adams Award because he made it the playoffs without Crosby. Big whoop! Tampa ended that in embarrassing fasion, didn’t they?

The Penguins era is over unless they can man up and play hockey like every other team.

  38. skezskoz - Apr 17, 2012 at 9:25 AM

Oh Pens fans, the one bond we share is our longing for the pre-lockout days when players had respect for the game. For us, it would mean Crosby would have to actually answer for his chicken sh*t antics. For you, it would mean a return to a simpler time when you didn’t even realize you had a hockey team.

  39. dawglb - Apr 17, 2012 at 10:10 AM

Bobhpine, if you knew me well enough to talk directly to me, you would know that I despise M. Vick. Go back to fondling Malkins ball sack.

  40. hockeyfan24 - Apr 17, 2012 at 10:21 AM

Everyone thinks people hate Crosby because he’s a great player, if that’s the case why don’t you hear people calling Malkin a whining cry baby? Maybe because he has class and plays with respect for other players…there’s a huge difference between playing hard and playing dirty. If you’re going to play dirty you better be willing to fight for yourself and not hide behind the teammates or refs and going after Timonen who has never fought in his career or dropping the gloves with Giroux only after the refs jump in doesn’t count as fighting for yourself.

    • tcclark - Apr 17, 2012 at 10:31 AM

Malkin might be worse than crosby. Crosby is a baby. Malkin is a dick. He has no class and is one of the dirtiest players in the league. Watch him try to elbow Giroux in the head, or get on top of him and shove his face into the ground before you say he plays with respect for other players

      • hockeyfan24 - Apr 17, 2012 at 10:42 AM

Ok maybe Malkin isn’t the best example (although I don’t think he’s as bad as you make him out to be) so lets replace Malkin with Patrik Elias or Anze Kopitar then…My point is that people don’t hate Crosby because he’s great, they hate him because of the way he plays the game and his disrespect for other players.

      • tcclark - Apr 17, 2012 at 10:47 AM

i understand what you’re saying, and I agree, but Malkin is a dick. I honestly think that he’s even worse than i described.

Crosby whines and cheap shots and let’s other fight his battle, but Malkin is dirty. Others don’t fight his battles, but he tries to fight them in a classless manor.

      • hockeyfan24 - Apr 17, 2012 at 11:33 AM

True, but I’ll take a guy that is cheap and stands up for himself over a guy that runs and hides

      • tcclark - Apr 17, 2012 at 12:50 PM

oh me too. but lets not say that he has class and shows respect for other players

    • hockeyfan24 - Apr 17, 2012 at 1:22 PM

Agreed, should have picked a better player to use as an example

  41. grandpoopah - Apr 17, 2012 at 7:28 PM

Why do Penguins fans have so much difficulty seeing the difference between tough, physical hockey and dirty cheap shots and diving? The Broad Street Bullies were very very tough, they fought a lot, and they hit a lot. The 2012 Penguins dive at every opportunity, take cheap shots on guys who are being held or when the puck is nowhere near them, and instigate fights they have no intention of finishing. There is nothing tough or physical about that. It’s pathetic, and Cindy is THE poster boy for this dishonorable, immature, dirty style of play.
