Yeah, I agree. Missing the rare offside or too many men call can happen and nothing can be done about it. It rarely happens, but it's a human mistake.

I hate seeing a ref being very active with the whistle over trivial things like calling "hooking" when a player's stick might make contact with the player's glove or arm. Then in the next game there might be a whole bunch of potential hooking or tripping calls that go uncalled when they're in plain view of the refs; it's just a case of "letting them play." Inconsistent reffing is what really kills me.

as an on-ice official and player you know mistakes happen. its part of the gig. you see what you see and it happens really quick. Even if the liney admitted that he missed it after the goal, he could not recall the goal. I'll always admit a mistake to the team that i screwed. as do most officials. what should never happen and i do not recall it ever happening this way is the organization hanging the ref out to dry. Campbell should be ashamed. It just strengthens the argument that the nhl favors the pens. You go to box for 2 minutes - you feel shame.

Officiating mistakes are human. Deal with it. It is what it is in every sport.

If anyone can do better, then sign up!

What's NOT ok, is crap like Weber did to Hank. That's not a mistake, that's irresponsible and outrageous. Pure intent to injure... who cares if the injury wasn't substantial?

Shanny intentionally let it slide due to playoffs. Hypocrisy and CAUSING more on-ice justice. Ok then, game on.

If they are going to point out only one or two mistakes, then they must point out all mistakes in the playoffs. But they will not do that, since some teams are favored more than others.

I'd rather have HONEST mistakes made by the refs vs. inconsistent calls from game to game or even period to period. Enforce the rules that are there and enforce them throughout the entire season, i.e., including playoffs.

The players adjust to what is allowed or not. The game was doing fine without allowing all the clutching and holding, picks, etc., to sneak back in. Why not keep with it?

Who cares about an apology? The officials missed multiple calls that literally determined the outcome of games.

Bottom line: these "mistakes" continue to happen with regularity because the league refuses to enforce its rulebook. We're watching dead-puck era hockey again because the incompetent dinosaurs running the league want it that way. The "let the boys play" attitude is ruining hockey and makes these mistakes inevitable: there is no standard, just want the officials arbitrarily decide to call that day. No consistent rules, no consistent officiating. Officials seem scared to make calls.

The primary problem isn't even holding officials accountable (although that would help) - its that no one - players, officials, fans - actually knows what the rules will be from period to period, let alone from game to game.
