Doughty: The Canucks chirp a lot

Apr 12, 2012, 6:11 PM EDT

Bieksa and Brown

Drew Doughty confirmed today what everyone already knew about the Canucks – those guys sure do talk a lot.

“I think every time one of us got hit their team was just yelling at us, chirping us for being hit,” Doughty said the day after L.A.’s 4-2 victory at Rogers Arena (via @BradZiemer).

“We just ignored it and went and put pucks in their net and that is what we are going to try and continue to do.”

The Kings didn’t completely ignore the Canucks’ antics — unless Doughty’s showing Ryan Kesler how to roll a pair of dice here — but they did put pucks in Vancouver’s net.

Ryan Kesler had his fair share of critics last night

    1) Kesler dived last night, but that one that keeps making the rounds with Richards isn’t a dive. Look at his feet, one is pivoted and the other crooked as he skates backwards while battling Richards. Even the momentum he carries is natural as he’s falling backwards. He might have embellished by letting go of the stick, but (shockingly) this game is played on ice and players fall over. The Canucks have a rep as divers, and fair enough, but the confirmation bias makes people jump and point every time a Canucks falls.

    2) Doughty was pointed to the penalty box, not doing the jerk-off motion

      GIF of the fall

although the more I watch the more it does look like Doughty is wankin’ the air…

        Haaa! I see what u mean..nice gif.

How’s life looking through those blue and green colored glasses? The best part about the blatant dive is that Kesler gave up on committing interference again and just went for the full dive instead of head snap.

Pretty good bro, you get to see other fans absolutely lose their sht over Canucks over and over over and over

      • loinstache - Apr 12, 2012 at 7:37 PM

        Also sick modest mouse reference

      • itsallniceonice - Apr 12, 2012 at 8:32 PM

Haha truth. Only thing that pisses me off more is Habs talk.

I’m glad you appreciate the Modest Mouse reference, one of my favorites.

There’s a lot of things the Canucks do that ya just cant defend but as far as chirping goes … looove it. (and yes I was the kid you played against that just wouldnt shut up)

Some of (if not all) the best personalities this game has ever seen were well known for just that ..chirping. In the end it’s entertainment and I for one have always been entertained by “yappers”.

    • loinstache - Apr 12, 2012 at 6:30 PM

Watching Yappy Lappy is hilarious. Like they said on the CBC last night, his head is always on a swivel as he picks someone new to chirp at

Oh the poor Kings. Subjected to trash talking! Shoulders to the face and breaking helmets with headslams is one thing, but the league really needs to stop players from being verbally rude to eachother.

I hate the Nucks and each time we hear about them it’s never positive. I almost feel bad for their fans, almost

    • kitshky - Apr 12, 2012 at 7:02 PM

Historically yes please sympathize ..but we’ve been pretty good overall the last couple years. Thanks tho!

    • cableguymike - Apr 12, 2012 at 7:09 PM

Don’t. Our team wins. Lots. Most other teams can’t say that.

      • tommytd - Apr 12, 2012 at 7:44 PM

Yea, your team wins lots…just not when the bright lights are on and everything’s on the line. LOL

      • cableguymike - Apr 12, 2012 at 7:48 PM

At least our team gets the chance. Most other teams can’t say that.

I guess those Presidents trophies don’t leave too much room for Cups eh?

      • cableguymike - Apr 13, 2012 at 3:17 PM

Again, there are a lot of other teams that wouldn’t mind getting that trophy. Don’t feel too bad for us. It means we win a lot. Next up: The Stanley Cup.

    • loinstache - Apr 12, 2012 at 7:27 PM

It’s because the media has a love affair slowly jerking off how everyone hates the team. To be totally honest it bugged me as a Canuck fan at first, but at this point it’s just waaaah wahhh waaah. Like Tebowmania, you know? Some stuff just gets stale

      • gbiscottagecheesefatties - Apr 12, 2012 at 8:25 PM

The American media has to deal with the trickle down BS of the Nucks that no one here cares about.

I understand what you mean ‘loinstache’ but you have to get annoyed with the constant cry baby team articles, just like how Pens fans do with Cindy Crosby

I don’t doubt it with Burrows, Lapierre, Kesler and Bieksa on the Canucks. Go Kings!!!

    • hibackhand - Apr 12, 2012 at 7:20 PM

Don’t lump Bieksa in there with those guys. He’s solid.

      • loinstache - Apr 12, 2012 at 7:28 PM

Bieksa is solid, but he’s also really mouthy

  6. johnnyru131 - Apr 12, 2012 at 8:14 PM

The Canucks are like the Cubs of hockey, they’ll never win the Stanley cup….. But the Cubs do have a couple World Series so I guess Im wrong, the Canucks are even a WORSE franchise than the Cubs. Who cares if you win in the regular season , if you don’t win in the playoff then all the winning in the regular season means absolutely nothing.

Hopefully the Canucks will win the “Riot Cup” again this year… and burn their own damn town down…Classy fans…Classy players.

    • cableguymike - Apr 13, 2012 at 3:20 PM

Yeah. Because no other city has ever rioted over a sports team. Only Vancouver.

  9. cowboyscanada - Apr 13, 2012 at 1:50 PM

Kesler is a cocky, yappy, mouthpiece. I hope one of the Kings knocks him through the boards.
