Thomas shuts down media session after White House question

Apr 9, 2012, 12:50 PM EST

Tim Thomas had to know it was coming when Boston drew Washington in the first round. And today it did.

According to CSNNE.com’s Joe Haggerty, Thomas was asked if questions about his infamous White House snub might kick up with the Bruins playing the Capitals.

In response, Thomas shut down the media session.

It should be noted, however, that Thomas was smiling when he shut it down. And hey, that’s his right. Just the same as it’s the media’s right to ask him about the White House story.

Actually, when you think about it, Thomas is playing it pretty smart. Reporters will eventually need him to talk about the games, so they can’t have him walking away all the time. That’ll get old.

If the media were smart, it would get together and agree that the White House thing will always be the last question of the session. Maybe it could become a fun tradition. When everyone’s asked their hockey-related questions, “So Tim, about the White House….alright have a good one!”

I will completely stop finding Pierre Mcguire annoying if he ever asks this of Thomas mid-game. :)

    • kendog1 - Apr 9, 2012 at 3:39 PM

I’ll find Pierre Mcguire less annoying when he stops kissing Eddie Olczyk’s butt every 2 minutes. Do you have to ask Eddie to validate every opinion you have? And it’s not that we don’t care about where every player played high school, college etc.. hockey, but not while we’re trying to watch the game! Emrick, Olczyk, and Mcguire are one of the weakest announcing trios in all of sports. It’s too bad NBC doesn’t realize this.

      • randman20 - Apr 9, 2012 at 4:52 PM

I agree with both of you. Pierre gets on my nerves simply by being on the screen. I wish Gary Thorne was available. At least he made national games tolerable. I respect Emerick because he knows so much about the game, but just because certain players were good on the ice doesn’t mean they’ll be good in the booth. (Olczyk and McGuire…..if he even played)

    • 2dollarpbrs - Apr 9, 2012 at 7:08 PM

If Pierre is annoying what the hell is Jack Edwards??????????????

      • cableguymike - Apr 9, 2012 at 7:16 PM

Is it Harry Carray or Jack Edwards? You be the judge.

    • danphipps01 - Apr 9, 2012 at 7:57 PM

Hockey gods, let this happen. Please. I need to see this.

  2. govtminion - Apr 9, 2012 at 1:00 PM

Ugh, come on, this was MONTHS ago, can we please just put this to rest and watch the playoffs? Stop asking about it!!!

    • kitshky - Apr 9, 2012 at 1:04 PM

Dude …they’re playing in Washington, it’s gonna get asked.

    • itsallniceonice - Apr 9, 2012 at 5:44 PM

It was Haggerty. He’s a fat moron. It’s funny that he blames TT for creating a distraction when it’s he that keeps bringing it up over and over.

  3. back2backbees - Apr 9, 2012 at 1:09 PM

    obama sux, period, the end.

    • myspaceyourface - Apr 9, 2012 at 1:22 PM

      He is the great divider.

      White vs. Black
      Rich vs. Poor
      Union vs. Non-Union
      Muslim vs. Christian
      Republican vs. Democrat
      Educated vs. Uneducated

Anyone who thinks this guy is doing a good job, hasn’t looked past the media headlines.

      • napoleonblownapart6887 - Apr 9, 2012 at 1:47 PM

Quit getting politics in my hockey!

      • kitshky - Apr 9, 2012 at 1:48 PM

1 – The only thing that divides Whites and Blacks is the 100’s of years of division in America, not Obama.
2 – Please explain how trying to close the massive wealth gap divides the Rich and Poor?
3 – The only person who divided Muslims and Christians was GWB when he declared a religious war and incited ignorant hatred of Muslims after the US was attacked by Wahhabi Extremists..
4 – …because Republicans and Democrats havent been divided before his Admin.
5 – How is a man that’s trying to encourage everyone in America to attain to some education “be it College, University, Apprenticeship, Trade School..for at least a year” (thereby trying to unite America to once again be amongst the worlds leaders in innovation) dividing anything?

I realize this isnt the time or place to get into this so I’ll stop, and I shouldnt even respond at all but seriously, you declare him a “great divider” and then basically blame him for every problem in America … ya that’s not partisan at all.

      • kitshky - Apr 9, 2012 at 1:49 PM

No …napoleanblownapart is right, ignore everything I just wrote.

(now if only PHT would let us edit / delete our posts…)

Brilliant political analysis. Well thought out, nothing but facts, deep insight. You two have restored my faith in the American educational system.

  5. Stiller43 - Apr 9, 2012 at 1:27 PM

    Tim thomas is a baby.

If he answered it the first time it was asked, it would have been over and done with. He just keeps this immaturity up and keeps making him look bad

    • jond86 - Apr 9, 2012 at 1:47 PM

Do you realized that he did answer it the very first time and asked that it be the end of it; that he would not respond to anymore questions about it? Okay, then.

  6. jond86 - Apr 9, 2012 at 1:55 PM

Can anyone tell that Brough is a Vancouver fan? Ya, me neither.

    • Jason Brough - Apr 9, 2012 at 2:04 PM

How so? By passing on something a Boston reporter tweeted?

      • jond86 - Apr 9, 2012 at 2:08 PM

By reading more than one of your articles pertaining to anything in Boston. PS Leafs suck lol

    • odj810 - Apr 9, 2012 at 2:08 PM

don’t see the connection, its his job running this website to post that boston or not. Its part of the territory, you gotta stir the pot to get us clowns talking.

      • Jason Brough - Apr 9, 2012 at 2:15 PM

Thanks for sticking up for me. And now to write a post about the Bruins being the dirtiest team in hockey and how the NHL stole the Cup from Vancouver by changing the rule book.
        What.
        It’s true!
        (Also, Boston deserved to win.)

      • back2backbees - Apr 9, 2012 at 3:41 PM

so you really are “habsman” – I knew it!!!

    • east96st - Apr 9, 2012 at 3:43 PM

Give him credit for having the common sense not to watch the Jackets. At least he’s not a masochist.

  7. comeonnowguys - Apr 9, 2012 at 2:30 PM

He wanted attention for his stunt.

Well, he got it. And he should be prepared to talk about it. Otherwise, it comes off kind of cowardly.

  8. wethog66 - Apr 9, 2012 at 3:04 PM

Did Thomas fall on his face as he tried to walk away like he did after the last time Boston played the Caps?

  9. georgiaboy61 - Apr 9, 2012 at 3:23 PM

Tim Thomas is probably wishing he hadn’t told the media why he wouldn’t attend his team’s visit to the White House, but no matter…. he is a real man, unafraid to stand up to the Obama lapdogs in the leftist press. Good men have died to win us the right to free speech, and Thomas is to be commended for exercising that right. Besides which, what is the Celebrity-in-Chief doing hosting sports teams at the White House in the midst of the worst economic crisis in over sixty years? Doesn’t he have better things to do? Good on you, Mr. Thomas, for refusing to play the media’s game… and turning your backs and walking out on them when necessary.

    • verytalldad - Apr 10, 2012 at 3:42 AM

Nice point comparing soldiers who died fighting for our freedom to a guy who posted something ON FACEBOOK!!!!! Real good comparison you got there.

Its a shame people have to blame the media, if they didn’t maybe they would take responsibility for themselves instead of sounding like a right wing regurgitating loon.

ps you didnt mention teleprompters or Kenya once. THEY TERK URRR JERRRBSS!!!!

  10. proudliberal85392 - Apr 9, 2012 at 3:48 PM

    Bravo, kitshky!

  11. rdurk86 - Apr 9, 2012 at 4:10 PM

Must have been easy for Haggs to get that quote, seeing as he was the one who asked the question.

  12. solador78 - Apr 9, 2012 at 6:19 PM

At least GW takes tough questions like a man.

    BRING IT!

    • Doesnotmatter - Apr 9, 2012 at 11:10 PM

Man, that’s some bad goaltending right there. And where was the defense? The guy was right in the slot and got 2 shots in.

      • solador78 - Apr 10, 2012 at 12:05 AM

Not GW’s problem if he can’t hit the net…

Obviously the terrorists went to Mike Milbury’s hockey school and terrorist training camp.

  13. arbruins - Apr 9, 2012 at 6:58 PM

Where does Emerick come up with his sayings? Sliced, pitchforked, squibbed and knifed.

    • gohawksgo2012 - Apr 10, 2012 at 6:14 AM

I don’t know where his sayings come from, but I think he is horrible, just the sound of his voice makes me nauseous, and then he comes up with all these totally ridiculous terms and phrases….wish they would get rid of him!

  14. fixurshorts - Apr 9, 2012 at 9:06 PM

bees is right. leave the past alone this is the country of free speech right.

    • verytalldad - Apr 10, 2012 at 3:37 AM

Free enough for reporters to keep asking questions and free enough for Tim Thomas to be told to shut the hell up by management of the Bruins.

Posting on facebook is so brave.

  15. verytalldad - Apr 10, 2012 at 3:36 AM

I think the overwhelming support of Ron Paul by the overwhelming voters of this nation proves that Tim Thomas is right,,,,,

Wait? THE REVOLUTION ISNT HAPPENING??? RON!!!!! TIM!!!!!! YOU LIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The truth is the majority of people dont agree with Tim Thomas or Ron Paul and thats okay. And most people respect the presidency and Tim Thomas didnt- and thats pretty lame.

    Blaming Obama is just lazy.

  16. redmosquito16 - Apr 10, 2012 at 8:00 AM

I think it’s rather funny how the neo-consersatives/tea partiers (TT has the Gadsden flag logo on this mask, so assuming he’s in the tea party camp is a fair assumption) scream from their soapbox to be uber-patriotic, yet TT puts himself above his team & snubs the President of the United States. Way to support your country & be a patriot, Tim!

  17. jdny - Apr 10, 2012 at 3:52 PM

Wouldn’t it just be easier to ignore Thomas during pres conferences and ask the other players questions? Maybe Thomas will get the hint if he’s going to snub the media after opening his big, fat mouth he can’t hide behind his “fifth amendment joke”? Doesn’t he realize he is not on trial for a crime (except stupidity) and therefore the fifth isn’t applicable?

If you’re going to talk, be a man and stand up and answer the questions. You started this!!
