  1. trbowman - Apr 8, 2012 at 1:09 AM

Predicted the Kings beating the Pens for the Cup before the season.

    I’ll stick by the Kings.

    • blomfeld - Apr 8, 2012 at 2:40 AM

friends … this “trbowman” guy seriously rocks ! … it’s like, he knows the deal …

  2. elvispocomo - Apr 8, 2012 at 1:11 AM

I guess all the Eastern fans are in bed early on a Saturday night.

    • psujay - Apr 8, 2012 at 3:57 PM

Or just out…not in front of their computers reading PHT

      • elvispocomo - Apr 8, 2012 at 7:28 PM

Cell phones are wonderful things, no?

      • eyecorporations - Apr 11, 2012 at 12:36 PM

You must be a blast to hang out with, reading PHT on your phone at the bar.

  3. danpit2 - Apr 8, 2012 at 1:16 AM

    City of Champions, Pittsburgh Penguins

    • rj2922 - Apr 8, 2012 at 4:52 AM

      Go Pirates. Lol. Fool

    • stratomaticfan - Apr 8, 2012 at 9:59 AM

That’s is funny. No Basketball team. Baseball team hasn’t made the playoffs in 20 years. City of Champions is obviously Boston….don’t believe me…all 4 major titles in last 10 years.

      • gallyhatch - Apr 8, 2012 at 11:23 AM

I love the downthumbs for the Hub!

7 titles in 10 years, and hopefully more to come! The Bruins have a sh- ton of talent for the forseeable future, the Patriots have one of the best offenses in the game, and if the Sox can get their act together, they are also a contender.

I don’t question the hatred, success breeds contempt! It’s good to be a hated Boston fan!

      • getlockedout - Apr 8, 2012 at 12:22 PM

they hate us because they want to be us.

      • 8man - Apr 8, 2012 at 12:37 PM

        Ditto. Good stuff. Goooooooooooooo Bruins!

      • highonpills - Apr 8, 2012 at 4:31 PM

boston huh?.. yea, the yankees smack em around every year, exept one wow. The patriots go to super bowls only to lose to new york.. Again. The bruins are good, but if they end up playin the rangers who is number one in the east by the way, my money says one more fore the big apple baby. pittsburgh is a joke, but boston aint a whole lot better chief. Have a good un.

      • 2004redsoxwcm - Apr 12, 2012 at 11:13 PM

Boston is the ” CITY OF CHAMPIONS ” 7 CHAMPIONSHIPS IN 4 MAJOR SPORTS IN SINCE 2001 3 SUPERBOWLS ( BEEN TO 5 IN 10 YEARS ) 2 WORLD SERIES WINS
1 NBA CHAMPIONSHIP 1 NHL STANLEY CUP CHAMPIONSHIP NO OTHER CITY HAS EVER DONE THAT IN THE HISTORY OF MAJOR SPORTS NOW THERE IS ALSO COLLEGE TEAMS IN BOSTON THAT HAVE WON CHAMPIONSHIPS AND A FEW SMALLER PROFESSIONAL SPORTS ALSO HAVE WON CHAMPIONSHIPS \\

BOSTON IS CITY OF CHAMPIONSHIP BY FAR

  4. 1943mrmojorisin1971 - Apr 8, 2012 at 1:23 AM

It’s pretty wide open but if Fleury gets hot and Sid is healthy it’s hard to bet against the Pens.

    • psujay - Apr 8, 2012 at 3:59 PM

You do realize Fleury’s career stats are comparable to Jose Theodore, right?

      • 1943mrmojorisin1971 - Apr 8, 2012 at 5:24 PM

Anybody can get hot in the playoffs. Dwayne Roloson ring a bell? What about Cam Ward?

  5. nepo784 - Apr 8, 2012 at 1:33 AM

    Anyone but the Pittsburg Penginas

  6. blomfeld - Apr 8, 2012 at 2:10 AM

and like, you don’t suppose the Kings will win it all, do ya ?

  7. mgspike - Apr 8, 2012 at 2:27 AM

The kings will not be able to score enough to beat the Canucks. Nashville or Vancouver vs Pittsburgh in the finals

    • blomfeld - Apr 8, 2012 at 2:52 AM

No doubt you mean well friend, however you concerns about the King’s scoring prowess are misguided. Luongo will be scored upon by our forces, trust me … and he will be scored upon many times ! This match up is probably the best thing to happen since the invention of the toaster ! :)

      • taytay099 - Apr 8, 2012 at 3:06 AM

Yeah, but the Kings got nothin’ on Cory Schneider. He’s quite the hound dog.

This will be a good series.

      • blomfeld - Apr 8, 2012 at 11:30 AM

taytay099 – hey man, that’s an excellent video selection ! :) … seriously though, we Kings will have no problem putting pucks “by the bushel” past Luongo … on the hand, this is admittedly going to be tough if they counter with Schneider …

  8. bleed4philly - Apr 8, 2012 at 3:29 AM

It’s gonna be a rematch from last year… And as long as the flyers beat the pens in the first round I’ll be happy.

  9. rawgator06 - Apr 8, 2012 at 3:40 AM

Panthers beat the Red Wings in 6 games..you heard it here first

    • taytay099 - Apr 8, 2012 at 3:53 AM

Yeah, and Brian Elliott will break a modern day goaltending record…

  10. kitshky - Apr 8, 2012 at 4:13 AM

Anyone should be worried about facing Quick right now, particularly with the Kings being red hot, but all things said I’m thinking in a 7 Game series LA just doesnt have the offense and Vancouver gets through a tough opponent without too much physical wear and tear … having said that there’s some sweet upset material just waiting to happen here.

    • blomfeld - Apr 8, 2012 at 11:55 AM

Well said by Kitshky ! … Jonathan Quick is the odds on favorite to win the Vezina, no two ways about that. And he’s admittedly the main reason why we’ve made the playoffs. Nonetheless, if our offense can finally kick things into gear and light up Luongo light a cheap “Made in China” christmas tree, then there’s every reason to believe that our beloved Kings can take care of business. The only down side to that is that the “riot of riots” is only two weeks away now, here in Vancouver … :(

      • kitshky - Apr 8, 2012 at 5:29 PM

Ok Blomfeld it’s been entertaining (and God know’s were just getting started) but we need to start discussing what your response is going to be after Lou holds off the Kings anemic offense handily and gives Quick an admiring pat on the head in the handshake line …

Better start goin thru your YouTube favourites now!!

(Gad I love this time of year)

  11. rainyday56 - Apr 8, 2012 at 4:28 AM

Blues,Pens,Hawks,Rangers,Wings, Bruins, Panthers and Kings are all out after the first round

  12. dcfan4life - Apr 8, 2012 at 4:38 AM

Id like to see my Caps make a run as this scrappy team no one wants to play. I mean they ended the season hot, and they got their key center back in backstrom. But i think its hard to bet against Vancouver or LA from the West and either the Rangers or Penguins from the East. And yes, is sickens me to say Pittsburgh but man thats a strong team with lots of experience and health at just the right time. Expect a run.

    • grimlock410 - Apr 8, 2012 at 3:19 PM

Caps off blues in 6 for lord stanley

  13. rj2922 - Apr 8, 2012 at 4:57 AM

Would love to see Ottawa stun the Rangers

    • blomfeld - Apr 8, 2012 at 11:58 AM

      no kidding eh ?

  14. iluvwikileaks - Apr 8, 2012 at 6:21 AM

The Last time the Flyers won the Cup, Olivia Newton-John was still cranking out smash hits:)

  15. cup0pizza - Apr 8, 2012 at 6:34 AM

    Rangers sweep Predators

  16. oscojoe - Apr 8, 2012 at 6:50 AM

The Penguins are the eastern conferance version of the Canucks, always whinning, diving & complaining. Thou I am not much of a NY fan I do have respect for how the Rangers play the game. The Bruins or the Rangers will prevail this year. Should be a great Eastern Conferance Final!!!

    • gallyhatch - Apr 8, 2012 at 11:30 AM

Overall I have to agree, even as a Boston fan, The Rangers are a tough team to hate (24/7 helped too, I have to admit).

& the fact that their coach just got fined for criticizing the Penguins only helps their cause in the court of public opinion. (I’m still in shock over this, WTF is the NHL saying with this fine? The people running this league have their heads shoved so far up their own @$$es it’s not even funny)

I’m nervous if the Bruins go up against the Rangers or Penguins, but regardless I am pumped for the season!!!!

      Let’s go Bruins!!

      • gallyhatch - Apr 8, 2012 at 11:32 AM

        “POST-season” (d’oh!)

    • blomfeld - Apr 8, 2012 at 12:03 PM

“eastern conference version of the Canucks, always whinning, diving & complaining”

don’t worry friend … you guys just take care of business with Cindy & company back there in the east and we Kings will do likewise with the Sister Act here in the west … guaranteed ! :)

      • canuckdude82 - Apr 8, 2012 at 6:32 PM

Hehe I’m guessing you hoping if you say the kings are gonna win it will happen…
Good luck with all of that and when the canucks knock them out please remember to continue to watch the playoffs so you can see what good teams are actually made of.

  17. phinfan527 - Apr 8, 2012 at 6:52 AM

Strangers lose 4 straight and exit first round as the pathetic losers they are. Tortorella gets fined 1M for whining until opening day for the 12-13 season. Devils beat LA in 7 to add cup #4 to their resume!!

    • blomfeld - Apr 8, 2012 at 12:07 PM

excellent analysis, except for one thing … you need to replace Devils “beat” LA with Devils “lose to” LA …

  18. lionsmark09 - Apr 8, 2012 at 7:45 AM

Red Wings are set to make a statement. Almost healthy and the underdog.

  19. govtminion - Apr 8, 2012 at 7:57 AM

I don’t see any reason why half a dozen teams couldn’t do it this year- some VERY intriguing teams coming into the playoffs this year.

But, at the end, I can’t see a reason why the B’s can’t repeat, so I’ll go that direction.

    • elvispocomo - Apr 8, 2012 at 8:53 PM

Shocking that you’d come to that conclusion, but the B’s record against Washington (1-2-1) is hardly inspiring. Same goes for the Rags when comparing to Ottawa, and Pittsburgh compared to Philly, where all the other top seeds are about .500 or better against their opponents. But the playoffs really are a different season, so we’ll see.

  20. ironcity6pak - Apr 8, 2012 at 8:10 AM

PENS, PENS, PENS!!! 2nd cup in 4 yrs!! LET’S GO PENS!!

  21. steeltownpride - Apr 8, 2012 at 9:01 AM

    Pittsburgh over Nashville in 6

  22. hockeyknowledge - Apr 8, 2012 at 9:56 AM

Flyers have a streak going in consol center.

    • steeltownpride - Apr 8, 2012 at 10:04 AM

      0-1 streak ? lol

      • psujay - Apr 8, 2012 at 4:05 PM

I thought that was an intra-squad scrimmage yesterday…

/seriously, if either side is thinking about yesterday they’ve already lost.

  23. rico33rd - Apr 8, 2012 at 10:35 AM

There really isn’t one series that can’t go either way. Maybe the Rangers are the biggest favorite but this is a different brand of hockey than the regular season. Just hope the refs don’t get too involved and decide any outcomes. Congrats Stamkos!

    • psujay - Apr 8, 2012 at 4:05 PM

The only team that wants the refs involved is the Pens

      • sadermatt - Apr 8, 2012 at 6:41 PM

You people are the whiners, not PIttsburgh. If they win, it’s always because of the refs… if they lose, it’s because the refs didn’t help them enough. Pathetic.

  24. hajkos455 - Apr 8, 2012 at 10:38 AM

Pretty good match ups this year

  25. steele9153 - Apr 8, 2012 at 10:41 AM

    Breezy gets hot – Flyers!

  26. subliminalnoize - Apr 8, 2012 at 11:10 AM

Ever since moving to Baltimore over 15 years ago, I have become a die hard Caps fan. That being said I’m going with my original home town team the Devils. I think Marty has one more run in him, and the supporting cast to do so.

  27. 22bju - Apr 8, 2012 at 11:21 AM

I’ll take the blues over rangers in 6

  28. quonce - Apr 8, 2012 at 11:27 AM

Your New Jersey Devils over Blues in 6….go ahead, let me hear it!

Homer pick and I don’t care!

  29. buffalomafia - Apr 8, 2012 at 11:32 AM

    Pittsburgh vs Detroit

  30. lordstanley65 - Apr 8, 2012 at 11:42 AM

B’s repeat! We want the Cup! Too much depth and Thomas is a brick wall…go B’s!

    • movinonyoleft - Apr 8, 2012 at 1:49 PM

Didn’t look like a brick wall when Hendricks humiliated him in the shoot out a week ago

      • onearmdragon - Apr 8, 2012 at 4:54 PM

No shoot outs in the playoffs. Perhaps you could choose a relevant example?

Thomas has had a great year (although not best ever this time) he is the reigning playoff MVP, respect is due.

  31. kingjoe1 - Apr 8, 2012 at 12:04 PM

Flyers beat the Sharks to win their first cup since Ford was president.

  32. bcjim - Apr 8, 2012 at 12:10 PM

Caps are my homer pick. If they get a chance at the Pens, they have a chance. They usually play well against them.

If not, I see nobody else beating the Pens sadly.

    • sadermatt - Apr 8, 2012 at 6:51 PM

Seriously? The Caps have faced Pittsburgh seven times in the playoffs, and have lost six of those series. They won in 1994, and lost in ’91, ’92, ’95, ’96, 2000 and 2001.

      • bcjim - Apr 10, 2012 at 9:44 PM

Ancient history. I’m talking about these players.

  33. muir6 - Apr 8, 2012 at 1:08 PM

    Rangers

  34. highlander24 - Apr 8, 2012 at 1:16 PM

    GO KINGS GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  35. mgspike - Apr 8, 2012 at 1:17 PM

If the kings have one period where they rattle Luongo for a few goals we’ll see Schneider who will shut the door. This will not be a sweep anyways, but a tough series where the Canucks consistency will prevail. Kings don’t have enough scoring or grit to upset the Canucks in the 1st round. Kings couldn’t beat the sharks in 2 huge games to close out the season giving up multiple goal leads both times. Canucks in 6. SJ will upset STL, NSH over DET and PHX over CHI. Van over SJ, NSH over PHX, then NSH and Van battle and that’s how the west will be won.

  36. taylorgang24 - Apr 8, 2012 at 1:18 PM

Penguins have the best roster. Geno, Sidney the kidney, Jim Neal, jo stall, christopherson Kunitz. Brooklyn orpik, and tanger anchoring the D with Mac dre in net… Will the pens lose a game is the better question

    • scalfor3 - Apr 8, 2012 at 8:46 PM

spoiler alert: they will lose a game

  37. jumbossportsblog - Apr 8, 2012 at 3:20 PM

    Rangers in 7 vs nucks

    • kitshky - Apr 8, 2012 at 11:50 PM

If that happened again … I swear upon my mothers grave (ok she’s not dead but you know what I’m saying) I will jump off the Lions Gate Bridge and aim for the rocks.

Havin said that, o dear Lord a Rangers / Canucks Final would unreal…

  39. joeyg88 - Apr 8, 2012 at 5:23 PM

coyotes all the way with mike smith hot on a 5 game win streak

  40. erose12 - Apr 9, 2012 at 3:07 PM

I predict the wing win over the predators in the first round. They are finally healthy with helm retiring possibly by game 2. The wings will be back to the strength they had when they were first in the league and had the 23 game streak. I don’t think ryan suter or Shea weber are matches for datsyuk and lidstrom.
