Shanahan explains why Brooks Orpik wasn’t suspended

Apr 7, 2012, 6:42 PM EST

The NHL has had its fair share of controversial disciplinary calls to make, but Brooks Orpik‘s knee-to-knee hit on Derek Stepan prompted some amazing quotes and a late-season headache. The Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman’s check on the New York Rangers center didn’t result in a suspension, though, so here’s the explanation:

(It starts around the 50 second mark.)

Thoughts?

This is an easy one. He is a Penguin not a Bruin. Seriously if Marchy or Luchampion did this they would sit the first game of the playoffs. Oh the other reason is the Golden Rule. Since Fario and Crybaby are golden there are no rules.

I love when people call Crosby cry baby or whatever and all their doing is crying about how unfairly their team is treated. Wahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

karma’s a b*tch and it will catch up to you.. just keep that in the back of your head.

“Crybaby”? Are you referencing yourself here?
Put down the stones, son. You obviously live in a house made of glass.

I have been live at a game and seen Crybaby in action 7 times, it’s well deserved. He even admitted that he did in his career early, and he doesn’t do it so much anymore. Pay attention people it’s hard to refute it when the player himself admits he is guilty of it. Of course it’s easy to say you don’t do it as much now when you have played a full 82 in 2 seasons. Please tell me that Fario isn’t one of the biggest whiners of all time. Saw him 3 times same thing. This is the same guy who whined about the state of the game while just rewarding Cooke with a new contract.

      Wahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

He wasn’t suspended because it’s Pittsburgh……If they don’t win, the fans don’t come and that would be bad for the league right?

  5. bobhpine - Apr 7, 2012 at 7:41 PM

It’s all a conspiracy I tell ya. Everyone is out to get you! That Fario thing is amazing. So funny. So awesome. Fairo! Ha!

The Fario thing is actually quite girlish. Are you wearing pink panties tonight too?

I know it isn’t about coaches getting fines, questionable hits, suspensions, or what Crosby had for breakfast..but the Devils broke the single season NHL record for PK % today and not a single mention on PHT?

  7. bobhpine - Apr 7, 2012 at 7:58 PM

But dude, matthews4 saw Crosby 7 times and Fario 3 times and it proved that they are whiners. Plus it’s all a big conspiracy to getbthe penguins to win. That’s a huge story.

  8. DTF31 - Apr 7, 2012 at 8:24 PM

Still doesn’t make sense. Jones or Porter got like 4 games for a similar hit on Booth. Then again, I think it was Boychuk who got away with a pretty nasty one earlier this season.

  9. matthews4 - Apr 7, 2012 at 8:37 PM

Really Really that’s the best you can do. Congrads to the Devils they are a tough match up for any-one. Yeah I’m just lying for the hell of it . Crosby himself admits it, but when i say the same thing it’s different. Nice logic. Dude do yourself a favor, if you want to establish any creditability try not to contradict the player themselves. So I’m sorry you don’t agree with my point of view, but when you go to an actual game you see more. As far as a conspiracy goes, no that never happens in any sport, star players have different rules. What was i thinking. 2 words Michael Jordan. Why is it that two teams who hate each other like the Flyers and the Rangers see it the same way. Ohhhhhh That must be the conspiracy. They are trying to make the poor Penguins look bad. I get it now it’s everybody else and not the Pens.

  10. bobhpine - Apr 7, 2012 at 9:13 PM

Michael Jordan is part of the conspiracy too. He’s on the grassy knoll with a jump shot. Lee Harvey Crosby is a patsy. You’ve cracked the case matthews4! Good work gumshoe.

You should probably stop paying attention now since it’s all fixed.

  11. matthews4 - Apr 7, 2012 at 9:25 PM

lol.Well what can i say i am a genius. Should be a good series. I’m not a fan of either team, but it will be a lot a fun to watch. Tell you what I’ll take a shot every time Crybaby whines.
